Monterrey

Monterrey is the capital and largest city of the northeastern state of Nuevo León in the country of Mexico. The city is anchor to the third-largest metropolitan area in Mexico and is ranked as the ninth-largest city in the nation. Monterrey serves as a commercial center in the north of the country and is the base of many significant international corporations. It is the second wealthiest city in Mexico and the ninth in Latin America with a GDP PPP of 130.7 billion dollars in 2012. Monterrey's GDP PPP per capita of 31,051 dollars is the highest in the country and second of Latin America. It is considered a Beta World City, cosmopolitan and competitive. Rich in history and culture, Monterrey is often regarded as the most "americanized" and developed city in the entire country, even above the cities along the U.S.-Mexico border. García

García is a municipality located to the northwest of the Monterrey metropolitan area in the state of Nuevo León, Mexico. García had, according to the 2005 census, a population of 145,867 persons. It borders the municipalities of Mina, Escobedo and Hidalgo to the north; to the south and east with Santa Catarina; and to the west with the state of Coahuila.

Anáhuac

Anáhuac Municipality is one of the municipalities, of the Mexican state of Nuevo León. The city of Anáhuac was founded on May 5, 1933, inside the municipal jurisdiction of Lampazos de Naranjo, Nuevo León, as the political head of the National System of Irrigation No.04 . On May 29, 1935, this city was declared a municipality. By decision of the Government of the State the municipal territory annexed the abandoned community of Colombia, Nuevo León in 1978. From 1992, Anáhuac Municipality has received federal contributions for the commercial use of the Colombia-Solidarity International Bridge, which is the only international border crossing between Nuevo León and Texas. Anáhuac Municipality is divided into eight regions: Estación Rodríguez, Ejido Nuevo Rodríguez, Ejido Camarón, Ejido Nuevo Anáhuac, Ejido Rodríguez, Ciudad Anáhuac, Salinillas, and Regantes.

San Pedro Garza García

San Pedro Garza García is a city-municipality of the Mexican state of Nuevo León and is part of the Monterrey Metropolitan area. It is a contemporary commercial suburb of the larger metropolitan city of Monterrey between Puente de la Unidad and the Alfa Planetarium, including areas surrounding Calzada del Valle/Calzada San Pedro. Cerro de Chipinque, Chipinque Ecological Park, and La Huasteca Climbing Area are notable aspects of the city. The city hosts the headquarters of corporations such as ALFA, Cemex, Gamesa, Vitro, Pyosa, The Home Depot México, and Cydsa. Grutas de García

Grutas de García are located 9 kilometers outside the small town of García, Nuevo León in northern Mexico about 30 km from Monterrey. The caves are inside the famous mountain, El Fraile within the Cumbres de Monterrey National Park. Cerro del Fraile reaches 1,080 meters above sea level and towers 750 meters over the main access road. The entrance to the caves is located on the side of Cerro del Fraile. To easiest way to reach the entrance to the caves is by taking a five minute ride on the aerial tramway, but there is a steep path that can be taken to reach the caves.

Grutas de Bustamante

Grutas de Bustamante, also known as Palmito Caves, are a group of natural caves located in the municipality of Bustamante, Nuevo Leon. The caves are located in an entrance of the mountains known as Sierra de Gomas, the Bustamente caves are located 107 kilometers northwest outside Monterrey and 7 kilometers southwest Bustamante municipal seat.

Old Basilica of Guadalupe

The Old Basilica of Guadalupe is a Roman Catholic apostolic building in Monterrey, Nuevo León state, México. It is located in the metropolitan area, just outside the city's downtown. It is the former center for the Basilica of Guadalupe, replaced in the latter 20th century by the current Basilica of Guadalupe complex. Its small edification is barely 50 meters away from the present basilica.

Basilica of Guadalupe

The Basilica of Guadalupe or Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, is a Roman Catholic church located in the metropolitan area of Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. Standing in the neighborhood of Colonia Independencia, just outside of the city's downtown area, the temple is one of the larger Church edifices in northern Mexico. It is dedicated to Virgin Mary in her guise as Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Patroness of America, who appeared to St Juan Diego on Tepeyac Hill outside Mexico City in 1531. It is smaller than its counterpart, the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City, which without a doubt enjoys a more national and international fame. Year after year, the church becomes the destination for thousands of faithfuls devoted to the Virgin, especially on the days prior to her feast day, December 12. On that date, beginning at the stroke of midnight leading into the 12th, mariachis play and sing traditional songs, or the mañanitas, paying tribute to the Virgin. Usually, the weeks prior to Our Lady's holiday, pilgrimages are made by peregrinos who arrive praying or chanting, and matachines who dance all the way up to the basilica. They all emerge from various directions to converge onto the church to pray and hear Mass in front of the copy of the image of the Guadalupana. The original is in the Mexico City basilica. Other notable Catholic churches in the area are: Catedral de Monterrey (The Monterrey Cathedral), La Basilica de la Purísima Concepcion commonly known as "La Purisima", Capilla de los Dulces Nombres (the Chapel of the Sweet Names), San Juan Bautista de La Salle, Basilica de Nuestra Senora del Roble, El Sagrado Corazon and the Antigua Basilica de Guadalupe (Old Basilica).

Guadalupe

Guadalupe is a city and surrounding municipality located in the state of Nuevo León, in northern Mexico. It is part of the Greater Monterrey Metropolitan area. The municipality of Guadalupe, which lies adjacent to the east side of Monterrey, also borders the municipalities of San Nicolás de los Garza, Apodaca, Pesquería, and Juárez. Covering a territory of 151.3 km², it is located at 25°40′39″N 100°15′35″W, at an altitude of 500 meters above sea level. As of the 2005 census its official population was 691,434 in the city and 691,931 in the entire municipality. It is the second-largest city and municipality in the state. The municipality has an area of 151.3 km² . The city was founded on January 4, 1716, but the land was inhabited long before that. When Monterrey was founded in 1596, the land, which was populated by various indigenous tribes, was ceded to Diego de Montemayor, the founder of Monterrey, but he did not make use of the land. In 1627, the land was turned into large plantations, where sugar cane and corn was raised. The owner of the land during around the time of the turn of the 18th century was named Capitán Nicolás Ochoa de Elejalde, but the land was taken from him by the Spanish government and converted into a mission in February, 1715. In 1756, the city was renamed the "Pueblo de la Nueva Tlaxcala de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe de Horcasitas". On March 5, 1825, the city was declared a municipality of Nuevo León and categorized as a villa, even though for many years it continued to be called the "Villa de Guadalupe".

Mina

Mina is town and municipality located at northwestern part of the northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo León. The population was 4,309 at the 2005 census. Its name honors Spaniard insurgent general Francisco Javier Mina, who fought for the Mexican side in the independence movement from Spain. Located at the northwestern part of the state of Nuevo León. Mina is a renowned tourist destination, for its mysticism and legends in the state of Nuevo León.

Palacio del Obispado

The Palacio del Obispado, Spanish for Bishops Palace, is located in Monterrey, Nuevo León state, Northeastern Mexico. It contains a museum. The Palace was constructed an the slopes of a hill, later named Cerro del Obispado after its principal building.

Cerro de la Silla

Cerro de la Silla, named for its distinctive saddle-shaped profile when viewed from the west, is a famous symbol of the landscape of the state of Nuevo León, Mexico. Even though the mountain itself is located in the adjacent city of Guadalupe, it is widely associated to the city of Monterrey, Mexico. It covers an area of 60.5 square kilometres . The mountain has four peaks: Pico Antena, Pico Norte, Pico Sur and Pico la Virgen; Pico Norte is the highest at 1820 m while Pico la Virgen is the lowest at 1750 m . Set aside as a Natural Monument by the government of Mexico in 1991, the mountain, or hill, as it is said to them also to the mountains in Mexico, is a popular recreational area and is often climbed by hikers who take a 5.3 km trail to reach the top. The ascent is considered fairly difficult, requiring approximately 3 hours to complete. A panoramic view of the city of Monterrey can be seen from the top. In the second half of the 20th century, an aerial tramway was built to give a fastest access to the iconic mountain for the population. The day of its inauguration was also the day of its closure, as a tragic accident took the lives of five people, including the engineer Jesús Fernández, its designer. Several plans have been announced to rebuild another tramway with no results. Some other known mountains or elevations of the zone are: Cerro de las Mitras, the Sierra Madre Oriental with the Cerro de Chipinque —the M-shaped figure visible from various parts of the city—, the Cerro del Topo Chico, Cerro del Obispado, Cerro de la Loma Larga and La Huasteca.

Palacio de Gobierno (Nuevo León)

The Palacio de Gobierno is the name given to the neoclassical construction located in the northernmost point of the Macroplaza in Monterrey, the capital city of the Mexican state of Nuevo León. The Palacio de Gobierno is the building where the office of the governor is located.

Cumbres de Monterrey National Park

The Cumbres de Monterrey is a national park of Mexico located in the northern portion of the Sierra Madre Oriental near the city of Monterrey, Nuevo León. The park includes the famous symbol of Monterrey, the signature skyline known as Cerro de la Silla . The park consists of rugged terrain boasting steep mountains reaching an elevation of 2,260 meters above sea level, deep canyons, rivers and waterfalls. It was created in 1939 under president Lázaro Cárdenas. The park encompasses 177,395.95 hectares; it was created to protect the native flora and fauna against the spreading urbanization of the city of Monterrey. The cool pine-oak forests with winding trails through the mountains make this park a popular escape from the Monterrey metropolis.

Alfa Planetarium

Alfa Planetarium is a planetarium located in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. This institution was created by ALFA in 1978 to promote science and technology in Latin America. It includes an interactive science museum, an Omnimax system cinema, an aviary, "The Universe Pavilion" and a great area for temporary exhibits and events. The Alfa Planetarium is one of the most visited cultural centers in Mexico.

Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey

Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey : Museum of Contemporary Art, Monterrey), abbreviated as MARCO, is a major art museum, located in the city of Monterrey, in Nuevo León state of northeastern Mexico. MARCO one of the leading museums of contemporary art in Mexico. MARCO organizes major exhibitions with regional and international contemporary artists. The museum is in the Centro district of Monterrey, adjacent to the Macroplaza and to the Barrio Antiguo district.

Puente de la Unidad

Puente de la Unidad or Viaducto de la Unidad is a cable-stayed bridge designed by Óscar Bulnes that crosses the Santa Catarina River and connects the cities of Monterrey and San Pedro Garza García in the Mexican state of Nuevo León. It is part of a circuit called "Circuito La Unidad", which would consist of the interconnection of a series of Avenues.

Monterrey Mexico Temple

The Monterrey Mexico Temple is the 110th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints . The Monterrey Mexico Temple was the 12th LDS temple to be built in Mexico. It serves over 91,000 members in the city of Monterrey and the northeast of the country in general. Prior to the construction of the temple, members had to travel as long as 25 hours and cross the U.S.–Mexico border to attend Spanish-speaking sessions at the church's Mesa Arizona Temple. Due to local resistance to the original site chosen for the temple, ground was not broken for five years following the announcement of the temple. Although the church won a three-year legal suit, officials decided to relocate the temple site to appease neighbors of the original site. The new temple site is located in the Huajuco zone of Monterrey along the National Highway. Construction on the temple began on November 4, 2000. A two-week open house prior to the dedication of the temple attracted about 40,000 people. Among the attendees were business, government, civic leaders, and officials from other religious faiths. On April 28, 2002, LDS Church president Gordon B. Hinckley dedicated the Monterrey Mexico Temple, the 75th temple he had dedicated. The Monterrey Mexico Temple has a classic modern design with a single-spire. The exterior is finished with white granite. It has a total of 16,498 square feet , two ordinance rooms, and two sealing rooms.

Potrero Chico

El Potrero Chico is an internationally renowned rock climbing area in the Mexican state of Nuevo León, 3 kilometres outside the town of Hidalgo. El Potrero is a unique geological formation of limestone cliffs and spires, some as high as 2,000 feet .

Estadio Tecnológico

The Estadio Tecnológico is a multi-purpose stadium located in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. The stadium is part of the facilities of the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education . C.F. Monterrey play their home games there, but only rent the space and are not affiliated with the institute. The team is scheduled to move to their new stadium, Estadio BBVA Bancomer in Guadalupe, in August 2015. The college football team for ITESM, Borregos Salvajes, also uses the stadium for their home games. The stadium was opened on July 17, 1950 by Mexican president Miguel Alemán Valdés. Originally, it seated 20,000 spectators, but in 1985 it was expanded to 38,000 seats for its use in the 1986 Mexico FIFA World Cup. In the early 1990s luxury boxes were added which reduced the capacity to its current figure. On February 12, 2006, the Irish rock band U2 opened the 4th leg of its Vertigo Tour at the Estadio Tecnológico, to a crowd of 42,000.

Plaza Fiesta San Agustín is one of the largest shopping malls in Mexico, and the largest located in the metropolitan area of Monterrey. Founded in 1988, it has grown to include shops and department stores dedicated to over 150 commercial activities. It is administered by Inmobiliaria Real San Agustín, S.A.

Mirador del Obispado

The Mirador del Obispado is located at the top of the Cerro del Obispado in the northern city of Monterrey, Mexico. It features the biggest bandera monumental in Mexico. The hill and the lookout receive their name from the building constructed in the middle of the hill by the end of the 18th century, the Palacio del Obispado . At an altitude of 775 meters above the sea level the lookout consists of a 40 meters of diameter round-shaped esplanade with the flag pole at its center. There are benches, a small parking lot and 3 French gardens. The installations are also equipped with restrooms and water troughs. It was conceived as a family walking stroll so the main road is very wide and well illuminated. Cars are allowed to pass but the main parking lot is at the entrance of the Park.

Boca de Potrerillos

Boca de Potrerillos is an archeological site located some 14 km from the municipal head of Mina, Nuevo León, México. About 60 km north east from Monterrey within the inter-sierra valleys of the Sierra Madre Oriental is the “mouth” or entrance to the Potrerillos Canyon between the Zorra and Antrisco hills. The site covers an area of about 6 km². The main feature of this site is containing one of the largest concentrations of rock art in Mexico. Although there are some paintings, the vast majority of works are petroglyphs; there are approximately 3,000 in the área.

University of Monterrey

The University of Monterrey is a private Roman Catholic institution of higher learning located in Monterrey, Mexico. UDEM was founded by the Daughters of the Immaculate Mary of Guadalupe, the nuns of the Sacred Heart, the Marist Brothers and the La Salle members, supported by an association of Catholic citizens. The idea originated from a recommendation given by the Second Vatican Council to use educational activities in favor of teaching the principles of the catholic doctrine. The founding religious groups already had a deep history in Monterrey. The Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus had been working in Monterrey since 1908, and the Sisters of Immaculate Mary of Guadalupe founded Labastida University in 1951, and had been running Labastida College since 1919, an institution devoted to the education of girls and young ladies. On the other hand, the Marist Brothers had been working in Monterrey since 1905, and La Salle Brothers, who had left Mexico during the Revolution war, returned in 1942 to Monterrey to found the Instituto Regiomontano. On July 8, 1969, the university was recognized as such by the state of Nuevo Leon and on September 8 of the same year it began operating as an educational institution housed in 5 different facilities owned by the very same groups and associations that funded it, such as Labastida school. Currently, UDEM educates over 12 thousand students, including high school students, undergraduates and postgraduates. The school offers 4 high school modes, 35 majors, 15 baccalaureate degrees and 29 medical specialties and doctorates. UDEM offers a number of choices to study abroad; UDEM has established bilateral, reciprocal and unilateral agreements, as well as arrangements through academic exchange agencies. In 2002, UDEM signed 26 new bilateral agreements with universities in the United States such as the University of California Berkeley and other universities in Spain, Italy, Belgium, England (such as University College, London), Germany and France (such as the Lycée Bossuet-Notre Dame, in Paris).

Arena Monterrey

Arena Monterrey is an indoor arena in Monterrey, Mexico. It is primarily used for concerts, shows and indoor sports like indoor soccer or basketball. It used to be the home arena of the Monterrey Fury indoor soccer team and the Fuerza Regia, a professional basketball team in the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional and the Monterrey La Raza, a team in the NISL. The Arena Monterrey is owned by Publimax S.A. de C.V. , part of the Avalanz Group, who owns 80% and by TV Azteca who owns 20%. The arena is 480,000 square feet in size.

Create a series of questions that people have to answer. The answers can all be discovered by walking aroung the area, looking for clues.

What's the name of the oldest building on main streeet?
Show a picture of some public art and ask them what it is called
Clues can have numeric or multiple choice answers
