Bengaluru

Bangalore, officially known as Bengaluru, is the capital of the Indian state of Karnataka. It has a population of about 8.42 million and a metropolitan population of about 8.52 million, making it the third most populous city and fifth most populous urban agglomeration in India. Located in southern India on the Deccan Plateau, at a height of over 900 m above sea level, Bangalore is known for its pleasant climate throughout the year. Its elevation is the highest among the major large cities of India. A succession of South Indian dynasties, the Western Gangas, the Cholas and the Hoysalas, ruled the present region of Bangalore until in 1537 CE, Kempé Gowdā a feudal ruler under the Vijayanagara Empire established a mud fort considered to be the foundation of modern Bangalore. In 1638, the Marāthās conquered and ruled Bangalore for almost 50 years, after which the Mughals captured and sold the city to the Mysore Kingdom of the Wadiyar dynasty. It was captured by the British after victory in the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War , who returned administrative control of the city to the Maharaja of Mysore. The old city developed in the dominions of the Maharaja of Mysore and was made capital of the Princely State of Mysore, which existed as a nominally sovereign entity of the British Raj. In 1809, the British shifted their cantonment to Bangalore, outside the old city, and a town grew up around it, which was governed as part of British India. Following India's independence in 1947, Bangalore became the capital of Mysore State, and remained capital when the new Indian state of Karnataka was formed in 1956. The two urban settlements of Bangalore city and cantonment which had developed as independent entities merged into a single urban centre in 1949. The existing Kannada name, Bengalūru, was declared the official name of the city in 2006. Bangalore is known as the "Silicon Valley of India" because of its role as the nation's leading information technology exporter. Indian technological organizations ISRO, Infosys and Wipro are headquartered in the city. A demographically diverse city, Bangalore is the second fastest-growing major metropolis in India. It is home to many educational and research institutions in India, such as Indian Institute of Science , Indian Institute of Management , National Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore, National Institute of Design, Bangalore , National Law School of India University and National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences . Numerous state-owned aerospace and defence organisations, such as Bharat Electronics, Hindustan Aeronautics and National Aerospace Laboratories are located in the city. The city also houses the Kannada film industry. As a growing metropolitan city in a developing country, Bangalore confronts substantial pollution and other logistical and socio-economic problems. With a gross domestic product of $83 billion, Bangalore is ranked fourth in India by overall GDP contribution, after only Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata

Tirumakudal Narsipur

Tirumakudalu Narasipura the temple city of Karnataka, commonly known as T. Narasipura or T.N.Pura, is a panchayat town in Mysore district in the Indian state of Karnataka. The first name refers to the land at the confluence, at the confluence of the Kaveri, Kabini and Spatika Sarovara (a mythical lake or spring, also named Gupta Gamini). This is the place in South India where Kumbhamela is held every three years. It finds a mention in the Skanda Purana as one of the Trimakuta Kshetras (holy places at the confluence of three rivers). The word 'Narasipura' is the name of the town, which is derived from the famous Gunja Narasimhaswamy temple that is located on the right bank of the Kabini river. Considered as sacred as Prayag (confluence of the Ganges, the Yamuna and the Saraswati at Prayag Varanasi Kashi in North India), it is also known as Dakshina Kashi The town finds mention in tourism guides, both as a tourist place and a pilgrimage centre.

Mysuru

Mysore , officially renamed as Mysuru, is the third largest city in terms of population in the state of Karnataka, India, which served as the capital city of Mysore Princely Kingdom for nearly six centuries, from 1399 until 1947. Located at the base of the Chamundi Hills about 146 km southwest of the state capital Bangalore, it is spread across an area of 128.42 km2 . According to the provisional results of the 2011 national census of India, the population of Mysore is 887,446. Mysore City Corporation is responsible for the civic administration of the city, which is also the headquarters of the Mysore district and the Mysore division. Mysore is the cleanest city of India. The Kingdom of Mysore was ruled by the Wodeyar dynasty, except for a brief period in the late 18th century when Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan were in power. Patrons of art and culture, the Wodeyars contributed significantly to the cultural growth of the city. The cultural ambience and achievements of Mysore earned it the sobriquet Cultural capital of South Karnataka. Mysore is noted for its palaces, including the Mysore Palace, and for the festivities that take place during the Dasara festival when the city receives a large number of tourists. It lends its name to the Mysore style of painting, the sweet dish Mysore Pak, the Mysore Peta and the garment known as the Mysore silk saree. Tourism is the major industry, while information technology has emerged as a major employer alongside the traditional industries. Mysore depends mainly on rail and bus transport for inter-city connections. It also has an Airport serving the city, also known as Mandakalli Airport. The city was the location of the first private radio station in India. Mysore houses Mysore University, which has produced several notable authors, particularly in the field of Kannada literature. Cricket is the most popular sport in the city; however, it has many other sport facilities.

Hebbal

Hebbal is an Assembly Constituency area in Bangalore, Karnataka, India, which was once indicative of the north endpoint of the city. Though originally famous for Hebbal Lake, it is now better known for the serpentine maze of flyovers that network the Outer Ring Road and Bellary Road. The flyover spans a length of 5.23 kilometres over all the loops combined. The flyover was built by Gammon India. The lake area is well known for the park, the boating facility, and for the bird watching opportunities. Hebbal used to be the end of the corporation limits of Bangalore City. One can still see the milestone between the Baptist hospital and checkpost. Bangalore has now grown quite a bit towards north, beyond these marks. L&T factory, which was established in 70's, is also close to Hebbal. Raintree Boulevard project is coming up at same place before GKVK University. All arterial roads and road networks leading to the BIAL intersect at Hebbal. Further, BIAL has its office on the National Highway exit of the Hebbal flyover in Gayathri Lake Front. L&T is doing tree transplantation in Hebbal Area at Raintree Boulevard Project.

Kudremukh

Belthangady is a town panchayat and the headquarters of Belthangady taluk of the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka state in India. The Town Panchayath Belthangady was established on 091996. The total extent of area of this Town Panchayath is 8.84sq/km and the population as per 2011 Census is 7,746. The town Panchayath consists of 11 wards. After the conclusion of the rule of Administrator a fresh election was conducted to the said Town Panchayath on 28/09/2007. Belthangady Town Panchayath is a class V located in Belthangady Taluk of Dakshina Kannada district. Belthangady TP has a total population of 7,746 as per census 2011. It is one of the least populated urban centre in the district. The total town area is 8.87sq.km consisting of 11 wards. It was formed in 1975. It is considered as an important trade center for agricultural products like areca, cashewnut, coconut and rubber. It is centre for various religious pilgrimages and tourist locations in the district. Belthangady Town Panchayath is located in Belthangady Taluk in Dakshina Kannada District. It is 60 km east of Mangalore and the least urbanized Taluk in the district. Belthangady is located at 13.98 N Latitude and 75.3 E Longitude. It is situated at an average elevation of 685m from MSL. The town is located in the Northern part of the district and adjacent to the Chikmagalur district. It is at a distance of 57 km from the district headquarters Mangalore. The nearest urban centre is Ujire which is at 5 km from the town. The other urban centre like Guruvayanakere, Dharmasthala, Madanthyar, Bantwal and Moodbidri are located at a distance of 5 km, 15 km, 12 km, 35 km and 62 km respectively. The major roads passing through the town connecting to Mangalore and Chikmagalur via Bantwal and Belthangady. The other major road passing through the town are Udupi to Subramanya, Karkala to Dharmasthala, Chikmagalur to Mangalore and Puttur to Dharmasthala. The town does not have direct rail linkage. The nearest railway station is Bantwal located about 35 km from the town. The nearest airport is at Mangalore which is at a distance of 65 km from the town.

Mangaluru

Mangalore also known as Mangaluru, is the chief port city of the Indian state of Karnataka. It is known as Kuḍla in Tulu, Maikāla in Beary, Koḍiyāḷ in Canarese Konkani and Maṅgaḷapuraṁ in Malayalam. It is located about 371 kilometres west of the state capital, Bangalore. Mangalore lies between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghat mountain ranges, and is the administrative headquarters of the Dakshina Kannada district in south western Karnataka. With its pristine beaches, broad roads and calm localities, Mangalore was ranked the 8th cleanest city of India. Mangalore was ranked India's 13th best destination for business. It developed as a port on the Arabian Sea—remaining, to this day, a major port of India. Lying on the backwaters of the Netravati and Gurupura rivers, Mangalore is often used as a staging point for sea traffic along the Malabar Coast. The city has a tropical climate and lies in the path of the Arabian Sea branch of the South-West monsoons. Mangalore's port handles 75 per cent of India's coffee and cashew exports. Mangalore was ruled by several major powers, including the Kadambas, Alupas, Vijayanagar Empire, Keladi Nayaks, and the Portuguese. The city was a source of contention between the British and the Mysore rulers, Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan. Eventually annexed by the British in 1799, Mangalore remained part of the Madras Presidency until India's independence in 1947. The city was unified with the state of Mysore in 1956. Mangalore is demographically diverse with several languages, including Tulu, Canarese Konkani, Kannada, Urdu, Malayalam and Beary commonly spoken, and is the largest city in Dakshina Kannada district. Mangalore is one of the most cosmopolitan non-metro cities of India. It is also the largest city in the Coastal and Malnad regions of Karnataka, besides being a leading commercial, industrial, educational, healthcare and petrochemical hub on the West Coast. Mangalore city urban agglomeration extends from Ullal in the south to Surathkal in the north, covering a distance of over 35 km.The city's landscape is characterised by rolling hills, coconut palms, freshwater streams and hard red-clay tiled-roof buildings.

Talakaveri

Talakaveri , is the place that is generally considered to be the source of the river Kaveri. It is located by Brahmagiri hill near Bhagamandala in Kodagu district, Karnataka, 1,276 m. above sea level. However, there is not a permanent visible flow from this place to the main rivercourse except during the rainy season. A tank or kundike has been erected on a hillside, at the place that is said to be the origin. It is also marked by a small temple, and the area is frequented by pilgrims. The river originates as a spring feeding this tank, which is considered to be a holy place to bathe on special days. The waters are then said to flow underground to emerge as the Kaveri river some distance away. The temple has been renovated extensively by the state government recently [2007]. On Tulasankramana day thousands of pilgrims flock to the river's birthplace to witness the rise of the fountainhead, when water gushes up from the spring at a predetermined moment. The tula snanam is observed across pilgrim towns in Kaveri's banks. Talakaveri is about 8 km away from Bhagamandala and 48 km from Madikeri.

Devanahalli

Devanahalli, also called "Devandahalli", "Dyaavandalli", Devanadoddi and Devanapura, is a town and Town Municipal Council in Bangalore Rural district in the state of Karnataka in India. The town is located 40 kilometres to the north-east of Bangalore. Devanahalli is the site of the Bengaluru International Airport, the second largest airport in India. A multi-billion-dollar Devanahalli Business Park with two IT Parks are coming up on nearly 400 acres adjoining the airport. An Aerospace Park, Science Park and a 1000 crore-rupee Financial City are also coming up. A new satellite ring road will connect the city with Doddaballapur. Devanahalli is situated near the upcoming $22 Billion, 12,000-acre BIAL IT Investment Region, to be the largest IT region in India. Total infrastructure development in the area is estimated to be well over US $30 Billion over the next two years. With significant commercial and residential development in the area, real estate is in high demand in the region. Devanahalli was the birthplace of Tipu Sultan, popularly known as the "Tiger of Mysore".

Sirsi

Sirsi is a city in the Uttara Kannada district in the Indian state of Karnataka. Sirsi was also known as Kalyanapattana during the Sonda Dynasty. It is a tourist destination with a population of 62882. It is the largest city in North Kannada district. Sirsi is the main commercial centre and business hub in Uttara Kannada district. The city is surrounded by lush green forest and the region is popular for a large number of waterfalls. Hubli and Belgaum is the nearest large city, and the main businesses around the city are mostly subsistence and agriculture based. Adike or is the primary crop grown in the villages that surround the city, making it one of the major trading centres for Arecanut. The nuts grown there are transported all over India, and also exported abroad. The region is also popular for many other spices like cardamom, pepper, betel leaves and vanilla. The major food crop is paddy and rice is the staple food of the people.
