Beckingham Palace

Rowneybury House , also known as Beckingham Palace , is a Grade II listed building in England that was previously owned by footballer David Beckham and his wife Victoria, often dubbed "Posh and Becks" by the media. The name "Beckingham Palace", commonly used by the media in reference to the home, is a portmanteau of Beckham and Buckingham Palace. The Beckhams bought the 1930s Georgian style house for £2.5 million in October 1999, soon after their wedding. The house is located within 17 acres of land, in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire. Previously, it was a council-owned childrens home. The Beckhams employ ex-SAS guards for security. The house itself is equipped with a recording studio, gym and a snooker room, along with seven bedrooms. In April 2012, the Beckhams decided to sell the property.

Gibberd Garden

The Gibberd Garden is a garden in Harlow, Essex, England, which was created by Sir Frederick Gibberd . He designed the garden and filled the grounds with sculptures, ceramic pots and architectural salvage from 1972 till his death in 1984. The garden is sited on the side of a small valley which slopes down to the Pincey Brook. Occupying some seven acres it never had a master plan. Sir Frederick was an intuitive gardener with a clear idea of what he wanted: if it worked, well and good, if it didnt, root it out and try something else! At the time of his second marriage there were only three sculptures in the Garden. It is significant that the late Lady Gibberds wedding present to him was Gerda Rubinsteins sculpture, City . During the twelve years of their marriage the number of sculptures grew and the garden now provides settings for some eighty sculptures, ceramic pots and architectural salvage. There is a gazebo, an avenue of lime trees, a waterfall in the brook and even a childrens moated castle with a drawbridge. In Sir Fredericks own words: Garden design is an art of space, like architecture and town design. The space, to be a recognisable design, must be contained and the plants and walls containing it then become parts of adjacent spaces. The garden has thus become a series of rooms, each with its own character, from small intimate spaces to large enclosed prospects. A visit to the Garden will perfectly illustrate this philosophy. Hugh Johnson, the author of books on wine and gardening, saw the garden develop and has written: There are few gardens in England where the eye and the mind are more consistently stimulated and amused. Amused is the key word. Sir Fredericks Garden is first and foremost an entertainment. Highbrow horticulture is not the point. It is landscape as theatre.

Harlow Marsh

Harlow Marsh is a 13.8 hectare Local Nature Reserve in Harlow in Essex. It is owned and managed by Harlow District Council. The site is in three separate areas, Maymeads Marsh , Marshgate Spring and Parndon Moat Marsh. Maymeads Marsh has a reed-filled pond with a bird hide, and wildflower meadows with many insects. Over 100 species of bird have been recorded, including the rare little ringed plover and ring ouzel. Parndon Moat Marsh has ponds, woodland, wildflower meadows, drainage ditches, sedge beds and a moat, which is a Scheduled Monument. Marshgate Spring has mature woodland with oak and hornbeam, and marshes with reed and sedge beds. Maymeads Marsh is between the River Stort and the railway line, east of Harlow Town railway station. There is access from a footpath along the southern side of the river. West of Maymeads Marsh, a footbridge over the railway line gives access to a path to Edinburgh Way, and the entrance to Marshgate Spring is on this path. The entrance to Parndon Moat Marsh is on the west side of Allende Avenue, between the river and the railway line.

Latton Priory

Latton Priory was a small priory in Essex, England. It was founded before 1292 by an ancestor of Thomas Shaa as a community of Augustinian Canons Regular and was constructed on a moated site. The church was rebuilt in the 14th century and together with the dormitory, refectory and cellarer's range formed a square surrounding the cloisters. The site was abandoned in 1534 at the time of the Dissolution of the Monasteries under King Henry VIII. The property was granted to Sir Henry Parker in 1536 but by 1556 had been united with the Latton Hall estate. In 1562 it became part of the Mark Hall estate, who sold it to a tenant after the Second World War. During much of that time the priory site has functioned as a farm. The farmhouse is believed to stand on the site of the refectory and the remains of the church, a grade II* listed building, have been incorporated into farm buildings. Recently proposals have been made to build 2500 houses on the site.

The Square

The Square was a 250 capacity independent live music venue in Harlow, Essex. It was managed by SquareOne Entertainment LLP who took over the venue in July 2008. Prior to this it was run by Essex County Council, until funding was withdrawn and the venue was to be closed after over 35 years of service as a community resource. The Square was a mainstay on the UK’s live music touring circuit and was one of the starting places for many successful acts including Enter Shikari, George Ezra, and The Subways. Harlow bands Collapsed Lung and Morning Parade formed at the venue. Cornershop name the venue as the gig that got them signed, as well as being the first venue to pay them to play. BBC DJ Steve Lamacq broadcast a live Coldplay show from the venue in 2000. Record producer Paul Epworth worked at the venue in the 1990s. The Square comedy club has played host to Jack Dee, Eddie Izzard, Jo Brand, Phill Jupitus, Terry Alderton and was regularly hosted by John Mann. In 2012 a live recording by the band Seymour from 1989 was included in the Blur 21 box set. In May 2015 building owners, Circle Housing, announced plans for redevelopment of the site. No commitment to rehouse the venue has been made. In July 2015 a series of gigs under the banner 'Back To Square One' was announced, with big name acts coming back to play the venue one last time. The series includes Newtown Neurotics, The Members, Steve Harris British Lion, Buzzcocks, DragonForce, InMe, King Prawn, Attila The Stockbroker, The Beat, Nine Below Zero, Collapsed Lung, Gaz Coombes, Chas & Dave, Secret Affair In October 2015 The Square was shortlisted for NME Magazines 'Britain's Best Small Venue' Competition. The Square closed on the morning of 1st January 2016.
