Hoora

Hoora a district of Manama, the capital of Bahrain. Along with the Central Business District, Adliya, and Juffair, Hoora is considered as one of Manama's nightlife centres, with many bars, hotels, restaurants, pubs and nightclubs (both Arabic and Western), and it is very popular with Arab visitors to Bahrain. The Exhibitions Avenue is the most prominent location in Hoora. In the evenings, especially during weekends, this avenue becomes a very busy street with many tourists, locals, and foreigners. The area contains several tourist attractions, including one of the world's premier collections of Islamic manuscripts and art, Beit Al Quran, and one of Bahrain's most important cultural spots, La Fontaine Contemporary Arts Centre. Apart from bars and restaurants, the Exhibitions Avenue also houses many business establishments like Computer World, Arabian Printing & Publishing Company, Universal Palace, and Gulf Computer Services. The GOSI Complex is a shopping complex that is also located on Exhibitions Avenue. The Abu Bakr Siddeeq mosque is a landmark on Exhibitions Avenue and is located beside the Hoora Police Station. Much of the architecture of Hoora is in the traditional Gulf style and dates back to the beginning of the 20th century.

Bahrain National Museum

The Bahrain National Museum is the largest and one of the oldest public museums in Bahrain. It is constructed near the King Faisal Highway in Manama and opened in December 1988. The US$30 million museum complex covers 27,800 sq meters and consists of two buildings. The National Theatre of Bahrain lies next to the museum.

Beit Al Quran

Beit Al Quran is a multi-purpose complex dedicated to the Islamic arts and is located in Hoora, Bahrain. Established in 1990, the complex is most famous for its Islamic museum, which has been acknowledged as being one of the most renowned Islamic museums in the world.

Al Fateh Grand Mosque

The Al-Fateh Mosque is one of the largest mosques in the world, encompassing 6,500 square meters and having the capacity to accommodate over 7,000 worshippers at a time. The mosque was built by the late Sheikh Isa ibn Salman Al Khalifa in 1987 and was named after Ahmed Al Fateh, the conqueror of Bahrain. In 2006, Al-Fateh became the site of the National Library of Bahrain.

The Al-Fateh Mosque (also known as Al-Fateh Islamic Center & Al Fateh Grand Mosque) (Arabic: مسجد الفاتح‎‎; transliterated: Masjid al-Fatih) is one of the largest mosques in the world, encompassing 6,500 square meters and having the capacity to accommodate over 7,000 worshippers at a time. The mosque was built by the late Sheikh Isa ibn Salman Al Khalifa in 1987 and was named after Ahmed Al Fateh, the founder of Bahrain. In 2006, Al-Fateh became the site of the National Library of Bahrain.

Bahrain Financial Harbour is a large-scale commercial development project in Manama, the capital of Bahrain. The commercial complex is located next to the King Faisal Highway, near many popular landmarks such as the Bahrain World Trade Center, Abraj Al Lulu, and the National Bank of Bahrain. The majority of the project is being constructed on reclaimed land. The BFH project consists of multiple construction phases such as: Bahrain Performance Center Commercial East Commercial West Diamond Tower Dhow Harbour Financial Center Harbour Row Hotel Residential North Residential South The two tallest twin-towers are currently listed as the tallest completed towers in Bahrain, with a height of 260 m with 53 floors.

Al-Qudaibiya Palace

Al-Qudaibiya Palace or Gudaibiya Palace is a palace in Gudaibiya, Manama, Bahrain. Located off Bani Otbah Avenue and Al Fatih Highway, it lies west of the Al Fateh Grand Mosque and southwest of the Old Palace of Manama and the Andalus Garden and Manama Cemetery. It is a light pink palace with a pearl-coloured, onion-shaped dome. For decades the palace has hosted some of the most important political and economy-related conferences in the country, having a prominent role in the foreign affairs of the country. The proclamation of the accession of Salman Al Khalifa, after his father's death in February 1942 was made from the steps of the Gudaibiya Palace, read by the ruler's uncle, Shaikh Mohammad bin Isa. It has a major political function; the King's cabinet usually meets every Sunday at the palace and Prime Minister Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa has an office at the palace. The landscaping of the Gudaibiya Palace grounds was carried out, between September 2007 and September 2008, by the Ministry of Works. During the 2011 unrest in Bahrain, thousands protested outside the palace from February 14, with demonstrators waving flags and chanting "Down Hamad! Down Hamad!", in reference to Bahrain's King Hamad. Others shouted "Hey Khalifa, get out! Get out!" in reference to the Prime Minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

Pearl Roundabout

Pearl Roundabout or Lulu Roundabout Dawwār al-luʾluʾ, "Roundabout of the pearl") was a roundabout located near the financial district of Manama, Bahrain. The roundabout was named after the pearl monument that previously stood on the site and was destroyed on March 18, 2011 by government forces as part of a crackdown on protesters during the Bahraini uprising .

Bab Al Bahrain

Bab Al Bahrain is a historical building located in the Customs Square in Manama's former central business district. It marks the main entrance to the Manama Souq. Designed by Sir Charles Belgrave, adviser to the Emir and completed in 1949, Bab Al Bahrain once stood close to the water's edge. Due to extensive land reclamation in the later years, the sea is located a few kilometres north. Government Avenue, which runs alongside Bab Al Bahrain, and the new highway that leads to the causeway to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia were built on reclaimed land. The Bahrain Financial Harbour is being constructed on further reclaimed land. The monument itself was refurbished in 1986 to incorporate Islamic architectural features. Today, the ground floor now houses the tourist information office and a handicrafts shop. The monument essentially consists of a huge arch, below which runs a road, which is often referred to as the entrance to the Manama souq . Government Avenue, which runs in front of Bab Al Bahrain, contains many major banks and business establishments. Government Avenue is so named because the entire offices of the Bahrain government were once housed here. The Gold City is a shopping complex for gold ornaments and is also located on Government Avenue. The Indian jewellery retailer Alukkas has a branch in Gold City.

Sacred Heart Church

The Sacred Heart Church is a Roman Catholic parish in Manama, Bahrain. The church is one of only two Roman Catholic churches in Bahrain (the other being the Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Visitation in Awali). The Sacred Heart Church serves an estimated 140,000 people. The parish priest is Rev.Fr.Fredrick D'sousa.

Embassy of the United States

The Embassy of the United States to Bahrain is the diplomatic mission of the United States in Bahrain. The building is located in Zinj, a district of the capital, Manama. The post of U.S. Ambassador to Bahrain is currently held by William Roebuck. The embassy is one of two major American installations in Bahrain, the other being Naval Support Activity Bahrain, a base which houses the main U.S. Navy operations in the Persian Gulf.

Sitra

Sitra , also known as Sitrah or Sitra Island (Arabic: Jazīrat as-Sitra‎), is an island in the Central Governorate of Bahrain just east of Bahrain Island in Persian Gulf. It lies south of Manama and Nabih Saleh. The island's western coast forms the boundary of Tubli Bay. Most of the inhabitants of the island live in seven historic villages: Wadyan, Al Kharijiya, Marquban, Al Garrya, Mahazza, Sufala, and Abul Aish. Many ghost towns exist in Sitra, the most prominent one being Halat Um al-Baidh. Sitra's population is largely Bahraini Shia Muslim, with a significant South Asian minority. Sitra's Sunni Arab population eradicated during the early 1920s when most of them died as a result of smallpox or migrated back to their homelands. Masjid al-Mughira ibn Shu'ba, the island's last remaining Sunni mosque, shut down in 2011 amid reports of vandalism of the mosque by Shia protesters.

Applied Science University

The Applied Science University (ASU, جامعة العلوم التطبيقية) is a university in Sitra, south of Manama within the Kingdom of Bahrain. ASU was licensed by the Ministry of Education in 2004. It was one of the first private universities in Bahrain to teach in both the Arabic and the English languages. Among the programs offered by the university are eleven undergraduate programs and seven postgraduate programs. The university has colleges of administrative sciences, law, and arts and sciences. The university relocated to a new campus in September 2013. The main building has a clock tower.

Bahrain World Trade Center

The Bahrain World Trade Center is a 240-metre-high , 50-floor, twin tower complex located in Manama, Bahrain. The towers were built in 2008 by the multi-national architectural firm Atkins. It is the first skyscraper in the world to integrate wind turbines into its design. The wind turbines were developed, built and installed by Danish company Norwin A/S. The structure is constructed close to the King Faisal Highway, near popular landmarks such as the towers of Bahrain Financial Harbour , NBB and Abraj Al Lulu. It currently ranks as the second-tallest building in Bahrain, after the twin towers of the Bahrain Financial Harbour. The project has received several awards for sustainability, including: The 2006 LEAF Award for Best Use of Technology within a Large Scheme. The Arab Construction World for Sustainable Design Award.

Tubli Bay

Tubli Bay (also known as the Gulf of Tubli) is a bay in the east of Bahrain, between Bahrain Island and Sitra island. The body of water is directly south of the Manama peninsula. The island of Nabih Saleh lies in the bay. The area was known for its rich marine and bird life, and the mangrove forests around its borders. The mangroves thrived on the run-off of water of freshwater springs after it passed through farms into the bay. The bay is a major breeding ground for shrimp and fishes. It is also a stopover for several migratory bird species. Today Tubli Bay has suffered from illegal land reclamation, environmental pollution and decreasing freshwater supply from springs. Land reclamations have reduced the size from 25 km² in the 1960s to just 11 km² today. The mangroves that used to exist along much of the coast have been reduced to just a few small patches at Ras Sanad and Ras Tubli. In 1997, Tubli Bay was added to the list of Ramsar wetlands of international importance.

Umm Al Hassam

Umm Al Hassam (trans. Mother of Sea Shells) is a middle-class neighbourhood on the southern coast of Manama, which is the capital of Bahrain. The neighborhood is home to many members of Bahrain's local Jewish community. It consists of a mixture of grand villas and newer apartment buildings, and is well known for its Lebanese and Indian restaurants. Abdulaziz Shamlan, a Bahraini nationalist leader from the 1950s and later Bahrain's Ambassador in Cairo, is one of the area's most famous ex-residents, along with the late Yousuf Abdulrahman Engineer whose house symbolizes tradition. Umm Al Hassam maintains its leftist traditions with the large headquarters for the National Democratic Action situated there.

Adliya

Adliya is the bohemian neighborhood in Manama, Bahrain. The district is a multicultural, busy area, a home to commerce, culture and entertainment, and it is considered as one of the four centres of Manama's nightlife. In the last few years, many of the old townhouses have been turned into art galleries, cafes and chic restaurants, causing some analysts to term the area as being bourgeois. As a result of the developing trend, Adliya is known for its clustered cafes, art galleries, bars, pubs, clubs and restaurants, including popular venues, such as BJ's, JJ's, Lilou's and Candle's. Adliya attracts many local tourists and residents.

Juffair

Juffair is a suburban neighborhood of Manama, Bahrain. It was originally a separate village inhabited by Shia Muslims but it has been absorbed by the suburban expansion of Manama, and also includes large parts of land reclaimed from the sea. It is now home to many hotels, restaurants, flats, and villas. In fact, Juffair is built on a massive land reclamation scheme which has extended Bahrain's coastline by two kilometers to the east. The area is the site of frenetic building activity, with new apartment buildings and hotels constructed each year. Most of those who live in the area are established foreigners or upwardly mobile young Bahrainis. It is also the site of Bahrain's largest mosque, the huge domed Al Fateh Mosque, which houses the new National Library. All Bahraini road calculations are made from the Grand Mosque — Zero Point. A British naval installation known as HMS Juffair was established near old Juffair village on April 13, 1935 in the area where ASU-SWA is located today. In 1950, the United States Navy leased office space aboard HMS JUFFAIR from the British. In 1971, after their treaty expired, the British left Bahrain, granting the island total independence. The United States, through agreement with the Bahraini government, took over part of HMS JUFFAIR, renaming it Administrative Support Unit Bahrain, subsequently Naval Support Activity Bahrain. The offices of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Central Informatics Organization, Bahrain Society of Engineers, and the Bahrain Tribune newspaper are all located in Juffair. The Bahrain School and Modern Knowledge School are both also located in Juffair. There is a new commercial road in Juffair that houses many restaurants and retail outlets, such as McDonalds, Chilli's, Nando's, Asian Zyng, Dairy Queen, Hardee's, Starbucks, Abraj Grills, and Burger King, etc. Near the entrance of Juffair, there is a building called Murjan Shopping Center that has a large supermarket, a restaurant, Post Office, and Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf coffee shop. Many bars and brothels such as The Black Cave are located in Juffair's "American Alley". The American Naval Support Center is located in the corner of Juffair.

Abraj Al Lulu

The Abraj Al Lulu is a large residential project located in Manama, the capital city of Bahrain. The entire project consists of three large towers, two of which have 50 floors and one with 40. The three towers are located next to the King Faisal Highway, which is close to popular landmarks such as the Pearl Roundabout, NBB Tower, Bahrain WTC and the Bahrain Financial Harbor. The entire project covers a land area of over 23,230 m2 .

Abdulla Yousif Fakhro & Sons BSC(c), one of the oldest family businesses in Bahrain is an anchor tenant in the tower and currently occupies the topmost floor. Nabih Saleh

Nabih Saleh is an island of Bahrain in Persian Gulf. It lies in the Tubli Bay, east of Bahrain Island. It is connected to both Bahrain Island and Sitra through the Sitra Causeway. This island originally, like Sitra, was covered with farms and date palm groves, but now it suffers from mass deforestation. Shias form a large portion of the island's population. The island is named for the formerly separate islands of Nebbi and Saleh. Saleh was named for the Shia Muslim scholar, Shaikh Saleh, who lived there in the 14th century.

Ras Rumman

Ras Rumman is a neighborhood of Manama in Bahrain. Historically it was a separate village of its own, however with the expansion of Manama, it became incorporated into the capital city as one of its neighbourhoods. It lies to the east of the Manama Souq and roughly south of the Diplomatic Area. It has traditionally had an identity with a tradition of date palm cultivation. The British Embassy of Bahrain is located in Ras Rumman. It also contains the Ras Rumman Mosque.

Karbabad

Karbabad is a village situated in the northern part of the Kingdom of Bahrain, along the northern coastline bordering the Persian Gulf. The village is famously known for being close to the location of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Qal'at al-Bahrain. The village was known for its beach, however in recent years, land reclamation has resulted in the once sea-front village to be up to 2 km inwards. Residents of the village have complained about land reclamation, claiming that "it is destroying their heritage".

Al Zamil Tower

Al Zamil Tower is a skyscraper in Fereej Al Fadhel, Manama, Bahrain, located opposite the Bahrain Sheraton, Manama and just across from Government House. Built in 2005, the 21-storey tower covers 16,893 square metres of space and has parking facilities for 154 cars. It won the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2007.

Almoayyed Tower

Almoayyed Tower , is commercial skyscraper located in the Seef neighborhood of Bahraini capital Manama. The tower is regular four-sided structure, with a height of 172 metres . Almoayyed consists mostly of office and business complexes. It was a tallest tower in Bahrain until the Bahrain Financial Harbour, Bahrain WTC and the Abraj Al Lulu was constructed. Almoayyed Tower is also known as Dark Tower because of its dark coloring. Almoayyed Tower is currently managed by Cluttons.
