Aberdeen Cultural Centre

The Aberdeen Cultural Centre is an Acadian cultural cooperative containing multiple studios and galleries and is located on Botsford Street in Moncton, New Brunswick. The Centre houses the Galerie Sans Nom, which presents art exhibitions that showcase current trends in visual arts, concentrating on artists from across Canada. Also active in the Centre is the IMAGO print workshop, which is interested in presenting and developing contemporary print works and techniques. The building that now houses the Centre was constructed in 1898 and originally served as Moncton’s first secondary school, known as Aberdeen High School. The school was named for the then Governor General Lord Aberdeen, who laid the cornerstone of the edifice shortly before its completion. The building was reconstructed following a terrible fire in 1916 and remained a functioning high school for decades thereafter. When the Aberdeen School—alma mater of Northrop Frye, world-renowned author and literary critic—closed its doors in the late 1970s, at that time it was a French elementary school since Moncton High School was established, Aberdeen was about to take on a new vocation.

Moncton Coliseum

The Moncton Coliseum is a multi-purpose facility, located in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. The capacity is 7,200, for hockey. The adjoining Moncton Agrena complex constitutes the largest trade show facility in Atlantic Canada. It is currently home to the QMJHLs Moncton Wildcats and the National Basketball League of Canadas Moncton Miracles. It was the former home of the AHLs New Brunswick Hawks, Alpines, Moncton Golden Flames Moncton Hawks . The arena has hosted several large events, including the 2006 Memorial Cup, the CIS University Cup in 2007 and 2008 and the 2009 Ford World Mens Curling Championship. NHL pre-season hockey games are routinely held at the facility every year. The New York Islanders pre-season hockey camp is at the facility. The arena has hosted concerts by many famous artists, spanning many different genres.

Irishtown Nature Park is a large urban park located in the Northern Edge Within the city of Moncton, New Brunswick . At 9 km2 it is one of the largest urban parks in Canada. The park has a large lake which is popular for kayaking and canoeing. The park is also used for hiking, mountain biking and cross-country skiing in the winter. There are several historic displays within the park including a small museum consisting of a fully restored one-room school. The yellow trail also begins in the main parking lot see park entrance signage. This trail is a more natural trail made for the adventurer that runs along the lake some sections where it is wet have been chipped for easier access. This trail is used by hikers, walkers and snowshoers in the winter. The blue trail is a nature trail that begins in a maturing hemlock forest and runs through various other forest stands that are typically found in the Acadian Forest. This trail is used for outdoor science-based education/interpretation as there is so much to explore on this trail.

Resurgo Place

Resurgo Place in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada is the new home of the Moncton Museum, the Transportation Discovery Centre and also houses the main Moncton Visitor Information Centre. It is located at 20 Mountain Road in downtown Moncton. After an extensive consultation process with community stakeholders and school children, the new name, Resurgo Place and a new logo was unveiled in March 2013. The name Resurgo which means “I rise again” is Latin and is the first motto of the City of Moncton. The Free Meeting House and Cemetery which are located adjacent to Resurgo Place were designated as a National Historic Site in 1990. The new 31,000 square foot facility, re-opened to the public on August 8, 2014, and includes new galleries, an interactive exhibition focusing on different modes of transportation, an education centre, a gift shop, a research centre and an indoor public area designed to preserve the sandstone façade of the former City Hall . Hands on interactive programming will be available to the public as well as special events and programs. Travelling exhibits complement Resurgo Place’s programming. The new complex also houses collections, photographs and archives related to the history of Moncton. The Heritage Collection focuses on Moncton’s rich history including displays devoted to Moncton’s transportation history. Shipbuilding, the railway and aviation have played a major role in the development of Moncton as a city and as a commercial centre since the early 19th century.

Riverfront Trail, Greater Moncton

The Riverfront Trail is a multi-use trail in Greater Moncton, along the shores of the Petitcodiac River. The trail comprises the Moncton section of the Trans Canada Trail, passing through the citys Riverfront Park, and extends to the neighbouring communities of Riverview and Dieppe. Points of interest include Bore View Park, Settlers Green, a Skateboard Park, the Hal Betts Commemorative Sportsplex and the Treitz Haus. Five kilometres in length on the Moncton side, the Riverfront Trail offer both paved paths and a softer dirt surface for walkers, runners, and bikers. Portions of the trail are cleared for winter running. The trail, along with several Moncton streets, is used annually for Legs For Literacy, a Boston Marathon qualifying race also featuring a half marathon, 10km, and 5km.

Moncton Stadium

The Moncton Stadium is a track and field stadium on the campus of the Université de Moncton in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, built to host the IAAF 2010 World Junior Championships in Athletics. The $17 million venue opened in 2010. Although seating capacity had fluctuated early in construction (original plans called for as many as 28,000 seats), the stadium has 10,000 permanent seats, and is expandable to 20,725 via temporary seating. The facility has also been proposed as a potential venue for a future Canadian Football League expansion team, but a significant expansion to 25,000 seats would be recommended. CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon said he wanted to see "neutral-site" regular season games played in the new Moncton Stadium by 2010. On February 1, 2010, it was announced that the Toronto Argonauts would play host to the Edmonton Eskimos in an event dubbed "Touchdown Atlantic" that took place on September 26, 2010. On September 22, 2010, Atlantic University Sport and Canadian Interuniversity Sport announced the Uteck Bowl will take place at the Moncton Stadium in 2011, 2013, and 2015. On February 18, 2011, it was announced that the Hamilton Tiger-Cats would play host to the Calgary Stampeders in an event dubbed "Touchdown Atlantic 2" that took place on September 25, 2011. As every CFL stadium now has an artificial surface, the Touchdown Atlantic game is the only CFL game played all season on a grass surface, although a temporary strip of artificial turf must be laid over the track in order to accommodate the end zones. The stadium also plays host to university soccer games.
