Kongstedlund

Kongstedlund is an old Danish manor house built in 1592 in the Renaissance-style and situated on the peninsula of Himmerland near Aalborg. Kongstedtlund is not open to the public, but the building can be seen from the nearby road.

Jomfru Ane Gade

Jomfru Ane Gade , in Aalborg, is possibly Denmark's most famous street. It is popular with both locals and tourists for its lively atmosphere with all the restaurants and pubs on both sides of the street. It is said to be the street with the longest continuous stretch of restaurants and bars in Denmark. It is particularly busy on warm summer evenings. First the terraces and restaurants fill up and then, as night falls, crowds of younger people walk up and down until they finally end up in one of the many discothèques, each famous for its own type of music.

Aalborghus

Aalborghus Castle is a castle in Aalborg, Denmark. It is a half-timbered castle built by King Christian III from 1539 to around 1555 initially as a fortification. Soon it became the seat of the kings provincial governors in Northern Jutland, and after the introduction of absolutism, became used by the State County of Northern Jutland for taxes. A building had existed at the site before Christian IIIs castle. It stood south of the castle and is mentioned in the first documentation of Aalborghus, dating back to 1340. It was owned by Margrethe I and was the death place of King Hans in 1513 who died in a horse riding accident. Frederick I had originally intended to destroy the initial building around 1530 and moving to a different site to convert Aalborgs Franciscan monastery into a castle. However he left the decision to his son Christian III, who later decided to demolish the original in 1539 and contracted the royal architect Morten Bussert to build a new fortified castle north of the old site, near the Liim Fjord. A barrier wall was built alongside the fjord, and later in 1633, Christian IV built a north wing facing the port, which was used as a granary for the storage of food supplies such as corn. A western wing was built to the same effect later, holding other supplies such as meats and fish. The south-facing wing was created between 1808 and 1809 but all that remains today of the original castle is the east wing. Between 1954 and 1964 the old granaries underwent full renovation by the Royal Inspector of Listed Buildings, Leopold Teschl, who converted them into council offices.

John F. Kennedys Plads

John F. Kennedys Plads is located in central Aalborg, Denmark. Dedicated to the 35th President of the United States, it contains a horse and rider statue of Christian IX of Denmark. Reserved for pedestrians, the site is constructed of granite and concrete tiles. Aalborg Train Station, Aalborg Bus Terminal, Kennedy Arcade, and Park Hotel Aalborg are adjacent to the square.

KUNSTEN Museum of Modern Art Aalborg

KUNSTEN Museum of Modern Art Aalborg is located in Aalborg, Denmark, on Kong Christians Allé near its junction with Vetserbro. Of a modern Scandinavian design, it was built between 1968-72 by Finnish architects Elissa and Alvar Aalto and Danish architect Jean-Jacques Baruël. It was completed on 8 June 1972. The museum has been termed a "showplace for 20th-century Danish and international art", as it showcases both domestic and international modern art collections. It is described as "strikingly contemporary in both form and content".

Aalborg Søfarts- og Marinemuseum

Aalborg Søfarts- og Marinemuseum is a marine museum located on the wharf of Aalborg, Denmark. Inaugurated on 24 May 1992, in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen, the museums collections have since been expanded considerably, including with an extensive collection of ship radios and navigation instruments, showing the development of such tools. The museum has over the years evolved to become one of Aalborg and North Jutlands most important attractions that is visited annually by thousands of tourists from home and abroad.

Troldkirken

Troldkirken is a Stone Age long barrow, situated near the village of Sønderholm, Denmark. The long barrow was constructed at some point during the Funnelbeaker culture 5-6.000 years ago and is marked out by forty-seven megaliths. Placed on the top of the barrow, is a polygonal chambered dolmen, with a large capstone. The whole monument is some 50 metres long. The name Troldkirken means both Church of the Troll and Church of Sorcery in Danish. There are several tumuli and dolmens in the area. The barrow is a protected site since 1809 and was one of the first pre-historic relics, to be protected by law in Denmark. Today The Historical Museum of Northern Jutland in Aalborg attends the barrow.

Musikkens Hus

Musikkens Hus is a venue in Aalborg, Denmark. It is located at Musikkens Plads by the Limfjord in the new cultural center area of the city. Opened in March 2014, the building contains a concert hall and practice rooms for the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra and The Royal Academy of Music. Additional tenants include Orchestra Norden, as well as two of Aalborg Universitys fine arts divisions, Institute of Music and Danish JazzCenter. The building features a solar-passive design and faces the riverfront. The educational rooms are constructed in a U shape around the central concert hall.

Aalborg Carnival

Aalborg Carnival is the name for the annual cultural event carnival in the city of Aalborg the fourth largest city in Denmark. The carnival takes place the last week in May and is the largest carnival in Scandinavia (advertised as "the biggest carnival in northern Europe"). The Aalborg Carnival stands for a week has 3 main carnival events: The Grand Parade, Battle of Carnival Bands and Children’s Carnival. The carnival week is for everyone both professional carnival groups, children and everybody who wants to act on his or her instincts and create their own costume and join the celebration of life.

Nordkraft

Nordkraft is a cultural centre in the Danish city of Aalborg. Opened in 2009, it is located in a former electricity generating station close to the waterfront in an area designated for cultural development. Neighbouring buildings include the Utzon Center and Musikkens Hus. Nordkraft is home to several cultural institutions including Skråen, a venue for jazz and rock concerts, Teater Nordkraft, the Biffen Art Cinema, the Kunsthal Nord art gallery and Dreamhouse, an innovative creation facility. It also has a multipurpose hall with seating for up to 1,500.

Jens Bang's House

Jens Bangs House is a landmark in Aalborg, Denmark. Situated on Østerågade in Nytorv square, it was built in 1624 by Jens Bang in Dutch Renaissance style. Noted for its gables and sculpted auricular window décor, it is said to be the finest privately owned Renaissance building in the country. It also features gargoyles and a sculpture of Bangs face, tongue sticking out. The five-storey building has housed the citys oldest pharmacy for more than 300 years. It is privately owned.

Aalborg Teater

Aalborg Teater is the main theatre in Aalborg, Denmark. Built in 1878, it was subsequently modified by Julius Petersen and was remodeled in 2000. Its address is still Jernbanegade, although the station and the theatre have both moved. The theatre has three stages and seats 870 in the main auditorium. There are 10-12 annual productions with a total of 250-400 performances, covering a wide selection of drama and musicals. Originally privately owned, it is now controlled and owned by the Danish Ministry of Culture. While most productions are housed in the main hall, the building can accommodate up to four shows in its other halls.

Kildeparken

Kildeparken is a large public park in Aalborg, Denmark. It is bounded by the streets Europahallen, Vesterbro, Old Kærvej, and the railway. It is possible to reach it from John F. Kennedys Plads through a tunnel. The park features a small lake with a fountain, sculptures, an open-air stage, and ”the Singing Trees” which were planted by notable artists. Said to be the oldest park of Ålborg, the park boasts traditional statues like the Three Graces by Bertel Thorvaldsen and the Bacchus Child by Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen. The park hosts concerts and is the center of Aalborg Carnival, an annual event.

Gigantium

The Gigantium, in Aalborg, Denmark, is a large, rentable faire building, which hosts a large variety of concerts, markets and exhibitions, among other things. It has a capacity of 5,000 people, for concerts, the capacity is 8,500 people. The arena is being considered as the venue for the 2014 Miss Earth Pageant. The main use of the arena is sport, and it is home to the Danish Handball League club Aalborg Håndbold and the elite Ice Hockey team Aalborg Pirates The ice hockey club AaB Ishockey also play their matches in an ice arena connected to the original Gigantium arena. AaB Ishockey is the amateur club having the license for professional ice hockey being used by Aalborg Pirates.

Hospital of the Holy Ghost

The Hospital of the Holy Ghost, Aalborg , the buildings of which, although now without any religious function, are still known as Aalborg Kloster , is a former establishment of the Order of the Holy Ghost in Aalborg, Denmark. It was the hospital of Aalborg from 1431 to 1953 and is one of Denmark's best preserved medieval establishments. These are the oldest buildings in north Jutland, and the former hospital is also the oldest social institution in Denmark.

The Historical Museum of Northern Jutland

The Historical Museum of Northern Jutland is the product of the fusion of Aalborg Historical Museum, The Museum Society for Hals, The Museum Society of Hadsund, The South Himmerland Museum, and others, in 2004. The museum system in this umbrella organization is administered by a 12-member committee, with members from the participating organizations. The administrative headquarters is in Algade 48, Aalborg. The Historical Museum of Northern Jutland works with research, collection, documentation, conservation, and promotion of local and cultural history in Aalborg, Mariagerfjord, Rebild, and Jammerbugt Municipality. The museum's mission is: "Attentive history". According to their website, a more elaborate description reads: "With a firm professional anchor and an unassuming appeal, The Historical Museum of Northern Jutland should in its approach create and maintain the foundation for the understanding of history. Within a horizon of 5 to 10 years, the museum should be among the 5 best museums in Denmark, gauged by the five pillars of all museums: collecting, conservation, registering, research and educational outreach." HMNJ is also responsible for care of many of the pre-historic sites like barrows and dolmens, within the associated municipalities.

Karolinelund was an amusement park located in Aalborg, Denmark.

1000Fryd

1000Fryd is a small café, bar, and community center with a stage, a recording studio, a cinema, and an art gallery, located in Aalborg, Denmark. Since 1000Fryd opened in 1984 there have been thousands of concerts by both well known bands such as Die Toten Hosen and Green Day and utterly obscure local performers, such as Jimmy Justice and Columbian Neckties. It is a focus of the successful novel Nordkraft by Jakob Ejersbo. The bar and concert hall are located on the ground floor. Other floors in the building contain cots for touring bands, artists and vagrants as well as several art studios. The venue is operated by foreningen Tusindfryd and staffed by volunteers. It has promoted non-traditional music, for example "Denmark's first grunge band" and alternative rock. The bar has been plagued by vandalism and fighting, including a riot in front of it in 2007, and at one point almost lost its liquor licence. 1000Fryd plays a major role in Jakob Ejersbo's successful novel Nordkraft, which explores the culture of disaffected urban youth at the turn of the 1980s-1990s and was adapted as a film in 2005 and as a play in 2011. According to one of those who worked on the stage adaptation: "In Aalborg it's the culture surrounding 1000Fryd in the transition from the 80s to the 90s. It's an underground culture of middle-class and lower-middle-class kids that developed in a strong form during the 80s. Not working-class as such, but rather a sort of youth proletariat that made itself felt very strongly in Aalborg and Aarhus in those years".

Gråbrødrekloster Museum

The Gråbrødrekloster Museum is an "in situ" museum in Algade, Aalborg. In 1250 a Franciscan monastery was founded here, but it does not exist anymore. The museum displays the archaeological artifacts excavated here at the site and sheds light on the history of Aalborg at the same time. In Danish the Franciscan Order is called Gråbrødrene, referring to the grey cloaks. In 2004, the museum joined the collective organization of The Historical Museum of Northern Jutland together with many other museums in Northern Jutland.

Aalborghallen

Aalborg Kongres & Kultur Center is an indoor arena located in Aalborg, Denmark, which is used for exhibitions and concerts. The facility was inaugurated in 1953 and has a capacity of 3,000 people. The first Aalborghall was built in 1933. The hall was used by German troops during the German occupation of Denmark and burnt down in 1941. The Aalborg tower that was built in connection to the hall still stands. A new hall was erected in 1953. The architects were Arne Kjær, Otto Frankild and Preben Hansen. The hall included a theatre built on the model of the Old Stage of the Royal Danish Theatre. In 1990, Europahallen was built near Aalborghallen and in a major renovation in 2002 the two halls were connected. The Royal Danish Theatre, the Danish National Chamber Orchestra and Circusrevyen are among the companies that regularly have visited Aalborghallen. Notable artists that have performed at the center include Elton John, Procol Harum, Sting and Rainbow. Since 2001, Aalborghallen has been one of the venues for the Aalborg Opera festival that is arranged yearly in March. Teaterbio was started as the first Danish Art Cinema outside Copenhagen in 1967, but closed in 1980. The exhibition area is 7000 m2 and for congresses there are 40 smaller rooms and three larger of which the largest can accommodate 2,000 people.

Sulsted Church

Sulsted Church, located in Sulsted, a small Danish town in northern Jutland, just north of Aalborg, was constructed c. 1150-1200 and features a large number of frescos or kalkmalerier, all created in 1548 by Hans Maler from Randers.

Aalborg Golf Klub

The Aalborg Golf Klub, in the Restrup meadows, is the second oldest golf club in Denmark. It was established in 1908, initially as a nine hole course. At its present location, which is 10 kilometres southwest of Aalborg, it has 27 holes. Many European and Danish championships have been held here as well as the European Challenge Tour in 2001.

Nytorv Square

Nytorv Square is a town square in Aalborg, Denmark. Nytorv street was originally built as a funnel-shaped space between Østerågade and Slotsgade in 1604. The crossing at Nytorv and Østerågade is the historic center of the city and is open to pedestrians, cyclists and buses. Nytorv is characterized by a number of shops and professional services, from west to east, including Spar Nord, Jyske Bank, Salling, Fona, Imerco, Friis, a community center, and the main library.

Nibe is a town with a population of 5,093 , located in Region Nordjylland on the Jutland Peninsula in northern Denmark. The town is located in a geographic region known as Himmerland. Nibe was the site of the municipal council of Nibe Municipality. The town also holds the Nibe Festival which is held in its very own, Must Forest.

Aalborg Zoo

Aalborg Zoo is a zoo located near the center of Aalborg in Denmark. Every year, Aalborg Zoo is visited by around 375,000 guests. The zoo covers 8 hectares, and keeps more than 1,500 animals belonging to 126 species. At the entrance, one can see the sculpture Det gode kup from 1925, made by artist C.J. Bonnesen. The sculpture was donated to Aalborg Zoo from the Urban brewery.

Aalborgtårnet

Aalborg Tårnet is a 54.9 metre tall observation tower built of lattice steel in Aalborg, Denmark. The tower is built on a hill, providing a total height of 105 metres above sea level. The tower has a restaurant on the top. The tower was completed in 1933, and underwent a major reconstruction from February 2005 to March 2005, in which the whole tower was pulled down and later reerected.

Østre Anlæg

Østre Anlæg is a city park in Aalborg, Denmark. The 6.5 hectares park on Bonnesensgade is one of the oldest in the city. There are approximately 175,000 visitors per year. Used as a dumping area in the 1920s, it was converted into a recreational area in the next two decades. A childrens playground was added in 1937. In addition to lawn areas, bushes, flowers, and trees, the park contains a lake, which is overlooked by St. Marks Church on the east. Fifty-one species of bird have been recorded.

Abbey of Our Lady

The Abbey of Our Lady, Aalborg was an early Benedictine monasteries in Aalborg, Denmark. The former monastic church survived as a parish church, the Vor Frue Kirke , until 1876, when it was demolished, and the present church of the name built on the site.

Jørgen Olufsen's House

Jørgen Olufsen's House is located in Aalborg, Denmark. Built in 1616 on the Østerå, a wide-mouth stream which became the city's harbour. Its current address is Østerågade 25. The three-storey house is Denmark's best preserved merchant's mansion in the Renaissance style. Built mainly of sandstone, it also has a half-timbered section. Olufsen, the older half-brother of Jens Bang who built the equally notable Jens Bang's House, was a successful merchant as well as Aalborg's mayor. The residence features an integrated warehouse.

Utzon Center

The Utzon Center in Aalborg, Denmark, was the last building to be designed by Jørn Utzon, the architect behind the Sydney Opera House. In collaboration with his son Kim who provided the final construction drawings, he planned the centre not as a museum but as a place where students of architecture could meet and discuss their ideas for the future. Located on the Limfjord waterfront in the city where Utzon spent his childhood, the building was completed in 2008.
