Museum of Anatolian Civilizations

The Museum of Anatolian Civilizations is located on the south side of Ankara Castle in the Atpazarı area in Ankara, Turkey. It consists of the old Ottoman Mahmut Paşa bazaar storage building, and the Kurşunlu Han. Because of Atatürks desire to establish a Hittite museum, the buildings were bought upon the suggestion of Hamit Zübeyir Koşay, who was then Culture Minister, to the National Education Minister, Saffet Arıkan. After the remodelling and repairs were completed, the building was opened to the public as the Ankara Archaeological Museum. Today, Kurşunlu Han, used as an administrative building, houses the work rooms, library, conference hall, laboratory and workshop. The old bazaar building houses the exhibits. Within this Ottoman building, the museum has a number of exhibits of Anatolian archeology. They start with the Paleolithic era, and continue chronologically through the Neolithic, Early Bronze, Assyrian trading colonies, Hittite, Phrygian, Urartian, Greek, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuq and Ottoman periods. There is also an extensive collection of artifacts from the excavations at Karain, Çatalhöyük, Hacılar, Canhasan, Beyce Sultan, Alacahöyük, Kültepe, Acemhöyük, Boğazköy, Pazarlı, Altıntepe, Adilcevaz and Patnos as well as examples of several periods. The exhibits of gold, silver, glass, marble and bronze works date back as far as the second half of the first millennium BC. The coin collections, with examples ranging from the first minted money to modern times, represent the museums rare cultural treasures. Museum of Anatolian Civilizations reaching the present time with its historical buildings and its deeply rooted history was elected as the first "European Museum of the Year" in Switzerland on April 19, 1997.

Presidential Complex

The Presidential Complex also known as the Ak Saray, is the presidential palace of the Republic of Turkey. The complex is located in Beştepe neighborhood of Ankara, inside Atatürk Forest Farm. In accordance with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğans "New Turkey" concept, it is envisaged that the Çankaya Presidential Palace will become the Prime Ministerial compound and the president will move to the newly built palace. This occurred soon after the 2015 general election, when the palace was officially made the residence of the President of Turkey. It was formally inaugurated as the official residence of the President by Erdoğan on the countrys Republic Day, October 29, 2014. Due to its construction being barred by the courts yet continuing regardless, it is regularly referred to as the Kaç-Ak Saray by opposition politicians and journalists, with the word kaçak in Turkish meaning illegal. Erdogan suggested to use Cumhurbaşkanlığı Külliyesi, referring to Millet Mosque in the complex. This was formally adopted as the complexs new name on 3 July 2015. The building cost was double the initial estimate or more than 600 million USD. On 10 July 2015, the Turkish Council of State found that the construction of the palace violated the law and ordered it to be vacated.

Ankara Opera House

Ankara Opera House of the Turkish State Opera and Ballet is the largest of the three venues for opera and ballet in Ankara, Turkey, the other two being Leyla Gencer Sahnesi in Ostim and Operet Sahnesi in Sıhhiye. The building was originally designed by the Turkish architect Şevki Balmumcu as an exhibition center, who came first in an international competition for the project in 1933. It was later converted into an opera house by the German architect Paul Bonatz, and started serving this function on April 2, 1948. The same building also serves as a theatre venue for the Turkish State Theatres under the name Büyük Tiyatro. The construction of a new main opera house for Ankara, in the vicinity of the original and of considerably larger capacity, is underway since 2005.

Selim Sırrı Tarcan Sport Hall

Selim Sırrı Tarcan Sport Hall is an indoor arena for volleyball matches located in Altındağ district of Ankara, Turkey. Named after Selim Sırrı Tarcan, founder of the National Olympic Committee of Turkey and a major contributor to volleyball sport in Turkey, the venue has a seating capacity of 2,500 spectators. Designed by architect Gündüz Güngen, its construction began in 1958 and completed in 1964. The sport hall was commissioned by the Turkish State Railways, however it was handed over to the Directorate of Physical Education after 5–6 months of its opening. In April 2006, the venue was transferred to the Turkish Volleyball Federation for a time span of 49 years. The venue is home to İller Bankası Womens Volleyball, which plays in the Turkish Womens Volleyball League.

Çankaya Mansion

The Çankaya Mansion is the residence used by the Prime Ministry of Turkey and until 2014 was the official residence of the President of the Republic of Turkey. It is located in the Çankaya district of Ankara, which lends its name to the palace. The name is sometimes used as a metonymy for the current president. The Çankaya Presidential Compound stretches over 438 acres of land with its unique place in the history of the Turkish Republic. The Çankaya compound houses Atatürk's Museum Mansion, the Pink Mansion, the office of the Chief Aide-de-Camp, the Glass Mansion and new office buildings including the State Supervision Council, reception halls and a press conference hall. There are also sports facilities, a fire brigade station, a greenhouse as well as the barracks of the Presidential Guard. In accordance with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's "New Turkey" concept it was envisaged that the Çankaya Presidential Compound would become the Turkish Prime Ministerial compound. The Turkish President would then move into a new 300,000 sq m Presidential Complex which was built inside the Atatürk Forest Farm in Ankara.

Mehmet Akif Ersoy Literature Museum Library

The Mehmet Akif Ersoy Literature Museum Library is a literary museum and archive dedicated to Turkish literature and named after the poet Mehmet Âkif Ersoy, the Turkish poet of the Turkish National Anthem. Located in Ankara, Turkey, the museum was established by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and opened on March 12, 2011, the 90th anniversary of the adoption the national anthem. The museum is housed in a two-storey building, which reflects the typical architecture of old Ankara houses. The building, restored for this purpose, is located in Hamamönü neighborhood Altındağ district. The library accommodates around 7,000 books and 100 periodicals, including the works of Ersoy and books written about him. The archive is dedicated to well-known authors native to Ankara and surrounding places. Books about Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the Gallipoli Campaign and the War of Independence are also part of the collection. At the museums ground floor, awarded literary works and author-signed books are exhibited in addition to periodicals on literature. Here is a special section allocated to the life and works of Mehmet Akif Ersoy, where also his personal belonging are on display. At the upper floor, books about Ankara and works of authors from Ankara are offered. Discussions on various authors, book signing events, poetry performances and writing workshops take also place at the museum library. It is the first of its kind in Turkey. Minister Ertuğrul Günay told during the opening ceremony that it is part of a project of museum-library network called "Seven museum libraries in seven regions of Turkey", namely Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar Literature Museum Library in Istanbul, Ahmet Arif Literature Museum Library in Diyarbakır, Karacaoğlan Literature Museum Library in Adana, Erzurumlu Emrah Literature Museum Library in Erzurum, Attila İlhan Literature Museum Library in Izmir and Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu Literature Museum Library in Trabzon that will follow soon. The museum is open during weekdays between 10:00 and 19:00 local time.

MİT Museum of Espionage

The MİT Museum of Espionage is a non-public museum owned by the Turkish National İntelligence Organization and located in Ankara, Turkey. Situated within the campus of the MİT, it is dedicated to the history of espionage featuring a collection of spying equipment. In 2011, during the celebration of MİTs 85th anniversary of foundation, it was learnt that the institution owns a spy museum. The internal museum opened its door for the first time to public in the history in October 2013 upon request by a major Turkish daily. Only historical spying artifacts used between World War II and the end of Cold War were on display while contemporary "top-secret" labeled instruments remained still locked up. The instruments on display in glass cases, categorized as "technical documentation", consist of equipment for espionage techniques in voice and image processing as well as monitoring . The about 150 exhibited items include a voice-recording watch, a bug-hiding shoe wedge, a radio transmitter disguised as a personal weighing scale, holed iron bolts, soap and stone piece for hiding encrypted documents or codebook as well as various spying equipment in the form of utensils like pen, plug fuse etc. Also bugs, detected in buildings of Turkish diplomatic missions abroad in the Cold War era between 1967 and 1989, are on display. The information about at which operation or where those espoinage equipment were used is kept still secret.

THF Sport Hall

The THF Sport Hall is an indoor arena for handball matches located in Ankara, Turkey. It is situated within the THF complex. The venue, having a seating capacity of 2,700, was opened in 2012. The Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Turkey Handball Federation decided the building of a handball-dedicated sports venue in Ankara on May 23, 2011. The construction began with ground breaking on October 21, 2011, and completed in June 2012. The venue opened officially on October 3, 2013. The construction cost of 11 million was funded by the ministry. The venue is situated at Yıldızevler, Hilal neighborhood of Çankaya district in Ankara. The first event the venue hosted was a match for the 2013 World Womens Handball Championship qualification playoffs between the national teams of Turkey and Azerbaijan played on the opening day. The tournaments all the Group D matches were held also at the THF Sport Hall. Qualified for the playoff round, the Turkish team will play their first leg match against the Danish nationals at the venue. The Turkey national handball team plays their home matches in the 2014 European Mens Handball Championship Qualification Phase 2 at the THF Sport Hall. The venue hosts all the Handball Super League and Womens Handball Super League matches scheduled in Ankara.
