Letalnica bratov Gorišek

Letalnica bratov Gorišek is a 1969 ski flying hill located in Planica, Slovenia. Hill is named after the original constructors and brothers Vlado and Janez Gorišek. With total of 28 world records set it is the world leading ski jump hill in this statistics. They installed the world's steepest zip-line with average incline at 38.33% and maximum incline at 58.7% incline which is opened since 19 September 2015. It's the biggest of totally eight hills at Planica Nordic Center. Yugoslavian ski jumper Miro Oman was honoured to made a premiere 135 m long jump on 6 March 1969 at hill test. The first ever FIS Ski Flying World Championships was organized on this hill in 1972. After Matti Nykänen set world record 191 meters at SFWC 1985, new rule by FIS was accepted where no points for jumps over this distance was awarded in order to prevent world record hunting. On 17 March 1994 Andreas Goldberger touched the snow with his hand at 202 m and made first ever over two hundred meters jump, but it was invalid. Just a few minutes later Toni Nieminen landed on his feet at 203 m and officially became the first man in history who jumped over two hundred meters. This hill is a historic place where man for the first time jumped over 160 m, 170 m, 180 m, 190 m, 200 m, 210 m, 220 m and 230 m but didn't always necessary standing on the feet. Planica is the only candidate for FIS Ski Flying World Championships in 2020 and is currently just waiting for the official confirmation of International Ski Federation.

Planica Nordic Center

Planica Nordic Center is a nordic skiing complex with one ski flying hill, seven ski jumping hills and cross-country skiing track in Planica, Slovenia. This is the only nordic center in the world with record eight hills that are all in one place and the only one of this kind with hills of all sizes at one place: small, medium, normal, large and flying hills. The origins of ski flying started in 1936 in Planica, when 18-year-old Austrian Josef "Sepp" Bradl became the first man in history to land a ski jump of over 100 metres . It is a place where the most of the ski jumping world records were set on two different hills, and also the historic first jumps over 100 meters by Sepp Bradl on Bloudkova velikanka and over 200 meters by Toni Nieminen on Letalnica bratov Gorišek. Complex consists of eight hills in function and three abandoned hills. Sigmund Ruud gave Bloudkova velikanka name "Mammoth Hill". In 2015, the complete reconstruction was finished with total new cross-country skiing track derived through the valley of Planica.

Nadiža

Nadiža Creek is a mountain stream near the town of Kranjska Gora, in the far northwestern corner of Slovenia. Springing from a bare rockface on the eastern slope of Mount Zadnja Ponca above the Tamar Valley in the Julian Alps, it is the first source of the Sava Dolinka River, the longer of the two sources of the Sava, the longest Slovene river at 221 km and a tributary of the Danube. The source of Nadiža is near the Tamar Mountain Lodge; immediately after emerging, the water cascades down the cliff face in a 10 m waterfall, near which the Municipality of Kranjska Gora draws its water. The creek's surface course is only about 300 m long, although it flows far further underground after disappearing at the gravelly Ledine basin near Rateče. The Nadiža re-emerges through the porous bottom of a two-m deep lake called Zelenci, a marshy wetland with an extraordinarily rich ecosystem, which is regarded as the source of the Sava Dolinka.

St. Thomas's Church

St. Thomas's Church in Rateče, Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, is one of the oldest churches in the upper Sava Valley, confirmed by written documents and excavations as well as the church's original furnishings. The oldest written document mentioning Rateče is the Vidimus by the first Ljubljana Bishop Sigmund Lamberg, which is preserved today in the kapitelj archive of the Ljubljana archdiocesan archives. It is a parchment document created at the time of Bishop Lamberg's visit to Kranjska Gora and is dated January 28, 1467. The Vidimus is a transcript of three manuscripts from the year 1390 addressing a change in the parish to which the church in Rateče belonged. The church, which until that time had been an affiliate church of the parish of Maria Gail near Villach in Carinthia, was taken from that parish and transferred to the parish of Kranjska Gora in Carniola under a grant by the regent Count Frederick III of Ortenburg. On 8 December 1390, Jan Soběslav, the Patriarch of Aquileia confirmed this change. An even older but, unfortunately, undated document, is the so-called Rateče or Klagenfurt Manuscript, one of the oldest written documents in the Slovene language. It contains the prayers Our father, Hail Mary and the Apostles' Creed. It is written on parchment paper with ornamented initial letters in red and blue. It was discovered in 1880 at Klagenfurt in Carinthia, where it is kept in the archives of the Carinthian Historical Society. On the basis of linguistic analysis and information taken from Bishop Lamberg's Vidimus, historian Ivan Grafenauer claims that the document was created around the year 1370. His determination is that it was written around that time; the words it contains, however, point to roots dating back to the 8th century. The document was bound into a mass book, used by the vicar from Maria Gail on his visits to Rateče. On the back cover of the same manuscript there is another written record, which contains the names of the members of the Brotherhood of the Mother of God in 1467. Among them are the names of priests and a number of surnames which are still found among inhabitants of Rateče today (Pintbah and Rogar, among others). Between 1972 and 1976 archeological digs were carried out under the church's foundation. Upon uncovering the late medieval stone floor, the archeologists discovered in the sanctuary the foundation of a semicircular Romanesque apse. On the south side of the nave, they uncovered even older wall foundations, which might suggest a pre-Romanesque phase of construction. In another area of the nave, they found a fragment of a ceramic jug typical of the Roman era crafting. In the sanctuary the excavators also found 25 preserved Roman-era graves with accompanying burial items. The method of burial suggests early Slovenian customs. Romanesque elements were found in the walls of the nave as well, A Romanesque window from the 12th or early 13th century was uncovered in the south wall. In the middle of this wall was also found an entrance with a wooden beam which was scorched by a fire in 1693. The church has a Gothic sanctuary, which replaced the Romanesque sanctuary in the mid-15th century. Adjacent to it is a Romanesque bell tower, which some have dated to 1360; in any case, it clearly was built in the 14th century. It houses a bell from the year 1521, on which is written in Gothic minuscule: + iesus + maria + anno + XXI + lucas + marcus + ioannes + matheus. In the belfry there is also a steel bell which was poured in a foundry in Jesenice and blessed on February 22, 1922. It pitch is a C and it weighs 242 kg. As of October 1, 2000, it is flanked by two bronze bells (weighing 198 kg and 136 kg), which were poured by the bell specialists Perner in Passau, Germany. They were consecrated by the Archbishop of Belgrade Msgr. Stanislav Hočevar.

Kajžnk House

The Kajžnk House or Kajžnik House is an ethnographic museum in a restored Alpine farmhouse in the village of Rateče, in the northwest Slovenian Municipality of Kranjska Gora. The house represents a well-preserved example of rural architecture, and was long the home of a typical middle-class farming family. Notable feature include the stonework door casing, as well as the frescoes of St. Florian and sundial on the exterior walls. The Municipality of Kranjska Gora purchased the fire-damaged property in 1995; with the assistance of the Carniolan Agency for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, renovations were completed in 2004. The following year, the Upper Sava Museum began establishing an ethnological collection, focusing on folk customs, dress, and handicrafts of the Rateče area. The house is furnished with authentic period furniture; two mannequins display several rotating examples of traditional regional costume. The attic contains an ethnological archive, including a rare 80-year-old film recording of village life.

Liznjek Farm

The Liznjek Farm is an ethnographic museum housed in a renovated 18th-century farmhouse, located in the centre of the town of Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, at the street address 63 Borovška cesta. It is administered by the Upper Sava Museum, based in nearby Jesenice. The farm presents the living conditions of a wealthy peasant family of the mid-19th century. The house is of mostly brick construction, with a wooden upper story; there is a furnished attic, and a full basement level, including a cellar and stable. A large barn across the courtyard is also part of the farm. The interiors include the original furnishings, as well as items drawn from the collections of the Upper Sava Museum. The basement features an exhibit on the life and work of the local writer Josip Vandot, author of the Kekec series of childrens books.

Trupejevo Poldne

Trupejevo Poldne is a peak in the Western Karawanken Alps, on the border between Slovenia and Austria. From the Slovene side it is accessible from the settlement of Gozd Martuljek via Srednji vrh. From the Austrian side a road from the village of Tetchanting, south of Villach, from which it gets its German name, leads to mountain pastures under the peak. It gets its Slovene name from the Trupej farmstead to the north of the summit, on the Austrian side. It is visited by hikers and is also suitable for ski touring in winter and spring. The summit offers nice views across the Upper Sava Valley towards Špik in the Julian Alps on the Slovene side and into Carinthia on the Austrian side. Neighbouring peaks in the Karavanke include Maloško Poldne/Mallestiger Mittagskogel and Kepa/Mittagskogel to the east and Mojstrovica and Visoki Kurji vrh to the southeast.

Bloudkova velikanka

Bloudkova velikanka is a large ski jump hill in Planica, Slovenia opened in 1934 by Joso Gorec's initiative. Hill was originally constructed by Ivan Rožman, that's why he resent that hill was first named after Stanko Bloudek and not him and backed up. Posthumous and many years later they credited and honoured him to rename hill as Rožman/Bloudkova velikanka. A year after opening Stanko Bloudek became in charge as main constructor improving this hill 'till his death and with his vision and skills made Planica world famous and brought ski jumping/ski flying to a whole new dimension. As a constructor he is credited with thirteen world records and first jump in history over 100 metres in 1936 and that's how new discipline was born right on this hill. Hill's axis and name are under national monument protection and can not be changed. After almost a decade of hibernation hill was completely renovated with same characteristics as old one and opened in 2012. Right next to this one the built a brand new normal hill which replaced the old demolished one about 100 metres south. They chose this location mostly because they candidate for Nordic World Ski Championships.
