Despot Stefan Tower

The Dizdar Tower or Despot Stefan Tower is a structure in Belgrade, Serbia, built ca. 1405, a couple of years after the city became the capital of Serbian Despotate under Despot Stefan Lazarević. Today, the tower is the seat of the Astronomical Society Ruđer Bošković and houses its Popular Observatory. The Observatory has two instruments: refractor Zeiss and reflector Tall 200 K, bot of which are used mainly for observations at night. Four panoramic telescopes are also mounted on the tower, which can be used to observe the panorama of Belgrade.

Ada Bridge

The Ada Bridge or alternatively Sava Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge over the Sava river in Belgrade, Serbia. The bridge crosses the tip of Ada Ciganlija island, connecting the municipalities of Čukarica and New Belgrade. The bridge pylon is located on the tip of the island, which has been reinforced with large amounts of concrete and has been slightly enlarged to provide stronger foundations. Construction began in 2008, and the bridge opened on 1 January 2012. Adjoining roads were completed in 2013.

The Church of Saint Sava is a Serbian Orthodox church located on the Vračar plateau in Belgrade. It is one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world and ranks among the largest church buildings in the world. The church is dedicated to Saint Sava, the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church and an important figure in medieval Serbia. It is built on the Vračar plateau, on the location where his remains were burned in 1595 by Ottoman Grand Vizier Sinan Pasha. From its location, it dominates Belgrade's cityscape, and is perhaps the most monumental building in the city. The building of the church structure is being financed exclusively by donations. The parish home is nearby, as will be the planned patriarchal building.

Nikola Tesla Museum

The Nikola Tesla Museum is dedicated to honoring and displaying the life and work of Nikola Tesla. It is located in the central area of Belgrade, Serbia. It holds more than 160,000 original documents, over 2,000 books and journals, over 1,200 historical technical exhibits, over 1,500 photographs and photo plates of original, technical objects, instruments and apparatus, and over 1,000 plans and drawings. The Nikola Tesla Archive was inscribed on UNESCOs Memory of the World Programme Register in 2003 due to its critical role regarding history of electrification of the world and future technological advancements in this area.

National Museum of Serbia

The National Museum is the largest and oldest museum in Serbia and former Yugoslavia. It is located in Republic Square, Belgrade, Serbia. The museum was established on May 10, 1844. Since it was founded, its collection has grown to over 400,000 objects, including many foreign masterpieces. Currently, the museum is closed for renovation. The National Museum building was declared a Monument of Culture of Great Importance in 1979.

Captain Miša's Mansion

The Mansion of Miša Anastasijević is one of the most notable buildings in Belgrade, Serbia. It is the University of Belgrades administration and governance building. The building was built in 1863. It had been originally designed to serve for the anticipated court of the grandson of Karađorđe Petrović, who was married to Captain Miša’s youngest daughter Sara. Nevertheless, following the realization of construction, Captain Miša Anastasijevic gave his mansion as a gift to “his mother country for educational purposes”. In September 1863, the Belgrade Higher School was moved into the building. This site is often regarded as one of the most beautiful buildings in Belgrade. Today, the seat of the University of Belgrade is headquartered within its premises. Captain Mišas Mansion was declared Monument of Culture of Exceptional Importance in 1979, and it is protected by Republic of Serbia.

Museum of Vuk and Dositej

The Museum of Vuk and Dositej is one of the most important memorial museums in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. Founded in 1949, it depicts the life, work and legacy of Vuk Stefanović Karadžić, the reformer of the Serbian language, and Dositej Obradović, a writer who was the countrys first Minister of Education. The museum is a crucial site for understanding the revival of Serbian culture at the time of the First Serbian Uprising against the Ottoman Empire. Since 1979, this institution has been governed by the National Museum of Serbia.

Alexander Nevsky Cathedral

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is a Serbian Orthodox church in the Serbian capital of Belgrade. It was built in the style of Morava school in 1877. It is located in the Dorćol in the municipality of Stari Grad. Like all Alexander Nevsky Cathedrals and churches, it is named after the Russian national Saint Alexander Nevsky. The church belongs to archeparchy of Belgrade and Karlovci of the Serbian Orthodox Church. A first church was built in 1877, but the plan for a larger church was raised in 1912. Architect Jelisaveta Načić was chosen. The foundation was consecrated in 1912, but construction was delayed due to the World War I, so that the end of construction in 1928 or 1929.

Today, in addition to 132 rooms and 6 apartments, the hotel's two restaurants are one of the rare Belgrade spots that also serve vegetarian meals. The hotel also has a snack bar, the famous old-fashioned café and a summer garden that's very popular not only with guests, but with Belgraders too.

Belgrade Zoo

The Belgrade Good Hope garden is a zoo located in Belgrade, Serbia. The zoo is situated at the very centre of the city, in Kalemegdan Park. The zoo was founded in 1936 and is one of the oldest zoos in Europe. The zoo covers an area of about 7 hectares, and has 2,000 animals representing about 270 different species. The zoo holds domestic as well as exotic wild animals. Its present look is contributed by many built facilities, new drinking-fountains, wooden Sculpture Gallery, the work of the sculptor Vuk Bojović and the nursery for young animals – Baby Zoo. For its 60th anniversary it was enriched with a monument dedicated to its once most interesting and most famous resident – Sammy the chimpanzee, the first of its kind ever in this Zoo.

Bajrakli Mosque

The Bajrakli Mosque is a mosque in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. It is located in Gospodar Jevremova Street in the neighbourhood of Dorćol. It was built around 1575, and is the only mosque in the city out of the 273 that had existed during the time of the Ottoman Empires rule of Serbia. During the occupation of Serbia by the Austrians, it was converted into a Roman Catholic church; but after the Ottomans retook Belgrade, it was returned to its original function. It was damaged after being set on fire on 18 March 2004, during that years unrest in Kosovo, in violent protest to the burning of Serbian churches in Kosovo, but it was later repaired.

New Railroad Bridge

New Railway Bridge is a bridge over the Sava river in Belgrade. It is a cable-stayed bridge. The railway bridge across the River Sava between the Novi Beograd and Prokop stations is 1928 m long. The bridge was completed and opened for traffic in 1979. It was the first bridge in Europe to use cable-stayed girder system. The bridge was designed by Nikola Hajdin, engineer and current president of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

House of Flowers

House of Flowers is the mausoleum of the leader of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito, who died on 4 May 1980 and his wife Jovanka Broz who died 20 October 2013. It is located on the grounds of the Museum of Yugoslav History in Dedinje, Belgrade, Serbia.

It is the site of some of Belgrades most recognizable public buildings, including the National Museum, the National Theatre and the statue of Prince Michael.

Church of St. Basil of Ostrog

Church of Saint Basil of Ostrog is a Serbian Orthodox Church located in Bežanijska Kosa neighbourhood of New Belgrade. Its construction started in 1996 and completed in 2001, and is the first church built in New Belgrade since World War II. The architect Mihajlo Mitrović adopted an "old Christian" rotunda-plan combined with side galleries and a tall bell-tower to the west. Funding for the project was provided by civilians, whom the saint is known to as the Miracle maker.

Evangelical Church, Zemun

The Evangelical church in Zemun was built in 1926-30 at the corner of Prilaz and Tošin Bunar streets. It was designed by Jewish-Croatian architect Hugo Ehrlich to serve needs of Zemun's Evangelical community at the time mostly consisted of Germans. Its plan is reminiscent of a trefoil, a rotunda with a prominent east apse and two side wings placed symmetrically in relation to the main entrance. A narrow narthex and the side wings are covered with hip roofs above which rises a larger-sized drum supporting a dome. The lantern mounted on top of the dome originally was surmounted by the cross, a symbol of Christ’s passion. The facades feature a reduced number of symmetrically arranged openings. The compact design, important attribute of the architectural school of Hugo Ehrlich and Viktor Kovačić, has townscape value that stems from the building’s successful positioning in relation to a crossroad on the approach to the Historic Core of Zemun. The Evangelical church shows an original, rarely employed and consistently modernist architectural design. After the end of World War II, all church activities ceased, building was nationalised and served as administrative office for a prolonged period of time in Socialist Yugoslavia. In this period many elements of church's original architecture were altered and cross on top of the dome replaced with five-pointed star, symbol of communism. Its misuse continued after the breakup of Yugoslavia when it served as a night club and gaming house. Finally in 2004. its historical and cultural value was officially recognised and church declared to be cultural monument under the protection of the state. In the same year Municipality of Zemun decided to return building to its original purpose to serve Zemun's Evangelical community. However, at present time Evangelical community is no longer mostly consisted of Germans but of Slovaks. For that reason in 2006. additional agreement regarding jurisdiction was concluded between Slovak and German church bodies that also received support from Evangelical Church in Württemberg. In November of 2006. first post-war deacon was appointed Mgr. Vladislav Ivičiak.

Museum of Contemporary Art

Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade is an art institution which collects and displays work produced since in 1900 in Serbia and former Yugoslavia. The museum also organizes international exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. It was founded in 1958 as the Museum of Modern Art and was the first Contemporary Art museum in Europe. The building is a masterpiece of Ivan Antić, one of the former Yugoslavia's most prominent post-war architects. The permanent exhibition numbers more than 35,000 works of art.

Metropol Palace Hotel Belgrade

Hotel Metropol Palace, formerly known as Hotel Metropol, is one of Belgrade's architectural monuments. It opened in 1957 on Bulevar Kralja Aleksandra, the longest street in the urban part of the city, designed by Serbian architect Dragiša Brašovan. The hotel is located near the center of Belgrade , overlooking the Tašmajdan park, close to the University of Law, the Church of St. Mark, the Vukov Spomenik area and the Slavija Square. The center of Belgrade including the pedestrian Knez Mihailova street, the Kalemegdan park-fortress and Skadarlija – the old-style bohemian area of Belgrade, are all easily reachable by public transportation or taxi/private car - 10 to 15 minutes in average traffic conditions. In 2002 a major fire broke out at the hotel, completely destroying the two last floors. The remaining of the hotel remained opened nevertheless for the following years. The hotel closed down in 2007 for throughout renovations and opened its doors again in June 2012 as a premium 5 stars venue. In Autumn 2012 it officially joined the Starwood hotels chain, under the Luxury Collection brand-category. The newly renovated hotel will significantly improve the hospitality infrastructure of the city of Belgrade, offering unique facilities that will enable Belgrade to attract important international events. The complete cost of the restoration, including the purchasing price was approx. 70 million EUR, ranking it as one of the largest foreign direct investments in Serbia. The hotel has had many famous guests throughout its history such as Habib Bourguiba, Gamal Abdel Nasser, Che Guevara, Louis Armstrong, Kirk Douglas, Igor Stravinsky, Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, Jack Nicholson, Jawaharlal Nehru, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Vittorio De Sica, Gina Lollobrigida, Tigran Petrosian, Mikhail Tal, Boris Spassky, Bobby Fischer, and others.

St. Michael's Cathedral

The Cathedral Church of St. Michael the Archangel is a Serbian Orthodox Christian church in the centre of Belgrade, Serbia, situated in the old part of the city, at intersection of Kralja Petra and Kneza Sime Markovica Streets. There was an older church, dedicated to St. Arch. It is one of the most important places of worship in the country. It is commonly known as just Saborna crkva among the city residents. The Cathedral has been proclaimed as the 1st category cultural property in 1979. The Cathedral Church in Belgrade with its architecture, art work and rich treasury represents an impressive cultural monument. It is an invaluable historical monument connected to the fate of the fi rst half 19th Century Serbian part of Belgrade, which had been forming in area around the Cathedral Church, this way becoming its religious, management and cultural centre. During the times when new social and political occasions were slowly emerging The Cathedral Church became central support in independence fight from Turkish centralism to the final freedom from centuries long slavery.

Railway Museum

The Railway Museum is a museum in the Savski venac neighbourhood of Belgrade. It was founded on February 1, 1950, and today is part of Serbian Railways company. First exhibition was held in 1953 under title "Through the history of Yugoslav Railways" . Museum is in possession of over 40,000 objects and also has an archive and library. It also operates the Šargan Eight narrow gauge heritage railway, running from the village of Mokra Gora to Šargan Vitasi station.
