201 Portage

201 Portage is an office tower at the intersection of Portage and Main in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The 33-storey building was constructed between 1988 and 1990 by the Toronto Dominion Bank for $38,000,000. The construction of 201 Portage required the demolition of the Childs Building at 211 Portage. When the Childs Building was constructed in 1909, it was the tallest building in Winnipeg. The Childs Building had been 12 storeys above ground, and 48.62 metres tall. A smaller twin building was planned but never built. The 33-storey, 47,000-square-metre building stands 128 metres tall, making it the tallest building in Winnipeg. It is 3.9 metres taller than the next-tallest building in Winnipeg, the Richardson Building, which is located across the street. It is the tallest building between Toronto and Calgary, and has been since its construction. 201 Portage is connected to Winnipeg Square and the Winnipeg Walkway system via an underground concourse. The building is certified as BOMA BESt level 3. Originally built by the Toronto Dominion Bank, the skyscraper was acquired by Canwest to serve as the company's main corporate headquarters. Global Winnipeg moved its operations to 201 Portage on September 1, 2008. Having declared bankruptcy and sold its media properties, Canwest has vacated the premises; its main successor Shaw Media will retain only the lease for the 30th floor, where the Global Winnipeg studios are located. On 11 January 2011, the Canwest sign and logo were removed. The penthouse stayed vacant after Canwest's departure in November 2010, until late 2012 when RBC-Dominion Securities relocated to it from the Richardson Building. Currently, the building is branded as "201 Portage". The building was managed by Creswin Properties, a real-estate company privately owned by the Asper family that owned Canwest, until early 2014. The building was acquired under new ownership in May 2014 and is currently owned by Portage & Main Development Ltd.; a private corporation whose shareholders include 201 Portage Equities Inc. and Harvard Developments Inc. The courtyard outside the building at the corner of Portage Ave and Notre Dame Ave features a 35 feet by 14 feet high resolution screen. The display features advertising, current time, weather and local information. The display was unveiled in 2009.

Richardson Building

The Richardson Building is a 34-storey office tower at the intersection of Portage and Main in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The current Richardson building is the second attempt at building a headquarters for James Richardson & Sons, Limited at Portage and Main. The original building was planned to stand 17 storeys tall and cost $3 million. Demolition had just begun when the 1929 stock market crash hit. Plans for the building were postponed and the lot was unused for nearly forty years. On 23 February 1967, James Richardson and Sons re-announced that they would build a headquarters at Portage and Main. Designed by Smith Carter Searle and Associates, with Skidmore, Owings and Merrill as consulting architects, it was completed in 1969 and still serves as the headquarters of James Richardson & Sons, Limited. The thirty-four storey building stands one hundred twenty-four metres tall , making it the second tallest building in Winnipeg. It is dressed in granite chip pre-cast concrete and solar bronze double-glazed glass. The building forms the anchor of the Lombard Place development, and is connected to Winnipeg Square shopping mall via the Portage and Main Concourse. Through 2010 and 2011, the shopping concourse below the building was renovated as part of a larger $10-million project that included work the former Bank of Canada Building at 161 Portage Ave and the Lombard Avenue parkade. The renovation included new granite flooring, new wall and ceiling coverings and a new conference centre. The renovation came approximately two years after a $3-million renovation of Winnipeg Square, an adjoining underground shopping centre. In 2011, the CBC moved its digital television transmitters for CBWT-DT and CBWFT-DT to the Richardson Building, on a new antenna that raised the pinnacle of the building to 151.8 metres , once again making it the tallest structure in Winnipeg.

Canwest Place

201 Portage (former names TD Centre, Canwest Place and CanWest Global Place) is an office tower at the intersection of Portage and Main in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The 33-storey building was constructed between 1988 and 1990 by the Toronto Dominion Bank for $38,000,000. 360 Main

360 Main is a 32-storey office tower located near Portage and Main in downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba. The tower was originally known as the Commodity Exchange tower. Although the naming rights expired in 1990, it was not officially renamed to 360 Main until 2010. Throughout this time it has been unofficially known as the Trizec building. Constructed in 1979, it is connected to the Winnipeg Square underground shopping mall. 360 Main Street contains 599,420 square feet of leasable area. 56,976 square feet of which contains retail space in Winnipeg Square. The building was certified as BOMA Best Level 3 in 2011. The tower was purchased from Oxford Properties Group and GE Capital Canada Inc in September 2007 by Crown Realty Partners, a Toronto-based company. The purchase included the Winnipeg Square shopping mall and totalled approximately $102.5 million. 360 Main is currently owned by Artis REIT, a Real Estate Investment Trust from Winnipeg.
