Top Attractions in Khoroshyovskiy

Khodynka Field

Khodynka Field is a large open space in the north-west of Moscow, at the beginning of the present day Leningradsky Prospect. It takes its name from the small Khodynka River which used to cross the neighbourhood. Major constructions on the field included the 19th century military barracks and the Botkin Hospital, the largest in Moscow at the time of its inauguration in 1910. Khodynka was the site of the first Russian powered flight, and became a regular airfield, in use through the late 1980s. The Russian National Air & Space Museum is at Khodynka. Khodynka field (up to 17th century "khodinskiy meadow") has been known since the 14th century, the first mention of which dates back to 1389, when Knyaz Dmitry Donskoy bequeathed the Khodyinsky meadow to his son Yuri Dmitrievich. For a long time the field was undeveloped, placed it on arable land Tver coachmen settlement. At the beginning of XVII century the army of Tsar Vasily Shumsky fought here with the troops False Dmitry II. When Catherine the Great in 1775 at the field was held a grand festivities on the occasion of the war with Turkey, and the conclusion of the Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca. In the 19th century, Khodynka had been used to celebrate state occasions. In June 1883 the coronation of Alexander III. The event was co-ordinated by Mikhail Lentovsky and included four theatres, a circus, puppet shows choirs and orchestras. The central point was an allegorical procession entitled Spring is Beautiful. In May 1896, the site was used for the ill-fated coronation of Tsar Nicholas II. Rumours about a shortage in food and that the coronation mugs contained a gold coin resulted in a stampede in which more than 1000 (some sources say 1500) people were trampled to death (see Khodynka Tragedy).

Begovaya

Begovaya (Russian: Бегова́я) is a station on the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya Line of the Moscow Metro. Named after the nearby Central Moscow Hippodrome, the station was opened on 30 December 1972, as part of the Krasnopresnensky radius. Originally the architect V. Cheremin intended to use the typical column tri-span "Novaya Sorokonozhka", but produced a design of pillars starting as a square at the top and octagonally transforming into a square that is at 45 degrees to the top layout. The floor was covered in dark coloured granite and the walls with ceramic tiles, with metallic artworks on the theme of equestrian sports. The station was the first to have repair work done on its walls when the ceramic tiles were replaced by white marble. The vestibules feature a combined escalator/staircase and the top portal is decorated with artwork called "The Mighty Horsemen", all of which along with the wall artworks were created by the artist E. Ladygin. The vestibules are situated next to a junction between 1905 street, the Third Ring Road (originally called Begovaya, hence the name), the Khoroshovo Highway and Rozanova Street. In the tunnel between the Ulitsa 1905 Goda and Begovaya stations there is an access branch that leads into the Krasnaya Presnya depot, which used to serve the Krasnopresnenskaya Line from 1972 until 1975 when the Planernoye depot opened. 53,550 commuters use the station daily.

Polezhayevskaya

Polezhayevskaya (Russian: Полежаевская) is a station on the Moscow Metro's Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya line. It opened on 30 December 1972 as part of the original Krasnopresnenkiy radius and Krasnopresnenskaya line, and is unusual in having three through tracks (although it was not the first such station, see Partizanskaya). The station was initially intended to be at a junction to a branch toward Serebryanny Bor. However, the branch was scrapped after construction had already started, and the station was completed as originally planned. The station is named after Vasily Polezhayev, who was the head of the Metro in the 1940s and 1950s. Its widened column tri-span design has a row of pillars in the centre of each of the two platforms, creating a wide space above the centre track. The octagonal pillars are coated with yellow marble of different tones and the walls covered with white ceramic tiles are accredited to the architects A. Fokina and L. Popov. Only one of the platforms (and thus two of the tracks) is used by passengers. The second platform has been opened at 14th November 2015 (due to construction) and the third track (with the tunnel that goes another 340 metres before a siding) is used for the night-time standing of trains. Two vestibules (one with a closed escalator) are interlinked with subways under the Khoroshovo highway. The future prospects of the third track are dim, despite the construction of an adjoining station (Khoroshyovskaya) on the Bolshaya Koltsevaya line. Some plans for the interchange passages include switching the traffic from the central track to the unused one to fill it up and construct a staircase in its place. The station has a daily passenger traffic total of 73,700.
