Lake Malta

Lake Malta, known also as the Maltański Reservoir, is an artificial lake in Poznań, Poland. It was formed in 1952 as a result of the damming of the Cybina River. It is about 2.2 km long, which makes the lake the biggest man-made lake of the city. The water is 3.1 m deep on average with a maximum about 5 m. There are a number of recreational attractions along the edge of the lake including: an artificial ski slope, an artificial ice rink, a zoological garden, Kolejka Parkowa Maltanka a narrow gauge railway, the Mound of Freedom, seasonal bikes rental MaltaBike The lake also has one of the oldest man-made rowing venues in Europe The Malta Regatta Course. This dates back to 1952 and has held a number of Rowing World Cup events. It also hosted the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in 1990 and 2001, and did so again in 2010. The lake also gives its name to the Malta theatre festival, held in Poznań annually in June, with some of the shows taking place next to the lake. The name of the lake comes from the Knights Hospitaller also known as Knights of Malta. The lake was built on land owned by Church of St. John of Jerusalem Outside the Walls, given to the order in 1187 by duke Mieszko III the Old. Because of the importance of the lake for the city of Poznań, various methods to improve its water quality have been investigated.

The Church of Saint John of Jerusalem outside the walls is a Roman Catholic parish church in the city of Poznań in western Poland. The original church on this site was built at the end of the 11th century, making it one of the oldest churches within the present boundaries of Poznań. It stands on the south-eastern corner of the Rondo Śródka roundabout, between the neighbourhoods of Śródka and Komandoria, within the city's Nowe Miasto district. It is close to the north-west corner of Lake Malta. The epithet "Outside the Walls" refers to the fact that it lay outside Poznań's medieval defensive walls. The church is dedicated to St. John of Jerusalem , the patron saint of the Knights Hospitallers, to whom the church belonged until 1832 (and to whom it has now been restored).

Święty Marcin

Święty Marcin [ˈɕvjɛntɨ ˈmart͡ɕin] , in full ulica Święty Marcin , is a main central street in the city of Poznań in western Poland. It runs from south of the old town district, westwards past the church of St. Martin of Tours from which it takes its name, past the "Zamek" (former German imperial palace), to Adam Mickiewicz Square, and finally to University Bridge (Most Uniwersytecki), by which it crosses the railway line and leads to the roundabout called Rondo Kaponiera. On Adam Mickiewicz square is a statue of Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz, as well as a monument to the victims of the Poznań popular protests of 1956 (erected in 1981). On the left of the square are the central buildings of Adam Mickiewicz University. Trams run along most of the length of the street,from Rondo Kaponiera to Aleje Karola Marcinkowskiego, in both directions at the western end, and eastwards only east of Gwarna. The area around St. Martin's church was originally a separate settlement outside the medieval walled city of Poznań. It was brought within the city boundaries in 1797, at the beginning of the period of Prussian rule, and the street began to be laid out soon after that. It was named St. Martin Strasse in German (later, during the Nazi occupation, it was called Martin-strasse). Following the building of the 19th-century fortifications around Poznań, the street led to the Berlin Gate, the main western entrance to the city. The imperial palace and other grand buildings in its vicinity were built following the demolition of this fortified line in the early 20th century. In the communist period the street was renamed ulica Armii Czerwonej, meaning "Red Army Street". On St. Martin's Day, 11 November (a public holiday on account of its being Polish Independence Day), a parade passes along this street, from St. Martin's Church to the Imperial Castle, where a fair and entertainments take place. Saint Martin's croissant (rogal świętomarciński), widely known for its delicious taste, is traditionally baked in Poznań for this day and sold also in other cities in Poland.

Evangelical-Augsburg Chapel

Evangelical-Augsburg Chapel in Poznań is a former neo-Gothic cemetery chapel from the end of 19th century. After the World War II many years serving as a temple of the Evangelical Augsburg in Poznan. It is located at 48 Grunwald street in Grunwald district, the Park of Manitius. It was built in 1896 as a Lutheran parish cemetery chapel of St. Paul. After the closure of the cemetery in 1946, the municipal authorities have granted the chapel deprived of their place of assembly of the Evangelical Augsburg as a temporary place of worship until the recovery of one of post evangelical sacred objects. Since 1948, several years it was used as well by the parish chapel Polish National Church. Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The lack of progress on this issue, and then bans the communist authorities to build a new temple or expansion of existing meant that the problem was solved only by building near the new church of God's Grace Street. The last Sunday service in the chapel took place in 2003. The chapel is a building of brick, one-nave, with a shallow chancel. From the street, the nave is preceded by a vestibule. The choir is covered with a cross vault in the nave is open timbered roof trusses. The interior of the nave illuminate the arched window. The nave and chancel elevated profiled combines arcade. Originally the chapel housed the morgue, a large arcade available in the rear of the present sacristy. Modest interior has been collected after the war with inactive evangelical churches in the province. In 1953 build the plaque commemorating minister Gustav Manitius. In 1965 the interior was modernized, made new decor chancel, and windows placed Powalisz glazing company. In the 90s Twentieth century room in the basement temporarily adapted to the Salk parish choir was built and put in new benches. After the consecration of the temple of God's grace, moved there as well plaque, while the equipment was transferred to the new evangelical chapel in Pila.

The Poznań International Fair is the biggest industrial fair in Poland. It is held on the Poznań fairground in Poland. Poznań International Fair is located in the centre of the city opposite the main railway station - Poznań Główny, in the centre of Poland and in the centre of Europe. Typically, there are about 13,200 exhibitors including about 3,000 foreign companies from 70 countries of the world participate in 80 trade fair events organized on the grounds of the Poznań fair. The Poznań-based fair owns the largest exhibition and conference infrastructure in Poland, including 16 high standard air-conditioned halls with a large exhibition area (over 110,000 sq.m. in exhibition halls and almost 35,000 sq.m. on open grounds) and 81 modern conference rooms.
