Top Attractions in Bursa

Ayvaini Cave

Ayvaini Cave is a show cave situated southeast of Lake Uluabat at the district border between Mustafakemalpaşa and Nilüfer in Bursa, Turkey. The cave has two entrances, one in the village Ayvaköy and the other between the villages Doğanalan and Kazanpınar. It is named after the nearby village Ayvaköy. It is possible to enter the cave at one entrance and leave it from the other. Generally, the cave is entered through its upper entrance in Doğanalanı, where it starts with a 17 m descent. The otherwise horizontally developed cave has a length of 5.5 km which makes it the longest in southern Marmara Region and the sixth longest in Turkey. The Mesozoic era-constituted cave features dripstone formations such as stalagmites, stalactites, pillars, wall and drapery dripstones, leakage stones, and around 60 pools and ponds of size 3–4 m . At the exit, the cave features a 400 m long lake. The water level of the ponds and the lake varies depending on seasonal effects. The cave was discovered by a team of three Spanish people in 1970. Ayvaini Cave is open to public since 2008.

Tofaş Museum of Cars and Anatolian Carriages

The Tofaş Museum of Cars and Anatolian Carriages is a private transport museum in Bursa, Turkey owned by the Turkish automobile maker Tofaş and dedicated to various carriages from Turkey and Tofaş-manufactured cars. It was opened on June 30, 2002. Situated in the historic Umurbey neighborhood of Yıldırım district, the museum is housed in a renovated building of 17,000 m2 that was an abandoned silk production plant. The facility was leased to the Bursa-based Tofaş Company for museum purposes by the Metropolitan Municipality of Bursa. The museum's collection consists of historic carriages including a two-axle horse-drawn Bursa carriage, oxen drawn carts, canon carriages, wains for hay and firewood, phaetons, powered carriages, Tatar carriage, which are examples of fine carpentry and blacksmithing. The most important exhibit of the museum is the replica of a 6th-century B.C. chariot, which was reproduced between 1998 and 1999 from artifacts unearthed during roadworks in a crypt at Üçpınar Tumulus near Balıkesir. The chariot was formerly on display at the Bursa Archaeological Museum. Further museum exhibits are automobiles including the first Murat 124 built in Turkey, Tofaş Şahin , Fiat Uno, Fiat Tipo, Fiat Doblò and Fiat Albea. In a special corner, trophies won by Tofaş in motorsport are on display. The museum also hosts events like temporary exhibitions of technological art as well as jazz concerts during the Bursa International Festival. The museum is open to the public everyday but Mondays from 10:00 to 17:00 hours local time.

Cumalıkızık

Cumalıkızık is a village in the Yıldırım district of Bursa Province, located 10 kilometers east of the city of Bursa, at the foot of Mount Uludağ. Its history goes back to the Ottoman Empire's foundation period. The village is now included within the border of the Yıldırım district as a neighbourhood. Cumalıkızık was founded as a vakıf village. The historical texture of the village has been well protected and the civilian countryside architectural structures of the early Ottoman period are still intact. Because of this, Cumalıkızık has become a popular but still unspoiled center for tourists. A group of similar villages which are placed close together between the foot of mount Uludağ and the valleys have been called Kızık in Turkish. The name stands for one of the twenty-four clans of the Oghuz Turks and the people from the villages also called Kızık. Similar villages, less well preserved, are Değirmenlikızık, Derekızık, and Hamamlıkızık . Hamamlıkızık was the village of the local baths and Cumalıkızık was named because people gathered there on Friday for worship. The Cumalıkızık ethnography museum in the village's square displays historical objects from the village. Every June there is a raspberry festival. The famous Cumalıkızık houses are made out of wood, adobe, rubblestones. Most of them are triplex houses. The windows upstairs are generally latticed and with a bay window. The handles and knockers on the main entry doors are made of wrought iron. Cobblestone streets are very narrow with no sidewalks, but a typical medieval gutter in the center for rain and waste water. A mosque, the fountain of 'Zekiye Hatun' next to the mosque and a bath with one dome are original from the Ottoman Empire. Also there is a ruin of a church built by Byzantines. Cumalıkızık holds 270 historical houses. Some of these houses are in process of restoration and maintenance, and 180 of them are still being used as dwellings. In 1969, the remains of a Byzantine church were unearthed southeast of the village in the foothills of Mt. Uludağ. Some architectural works are on display in the Archeological Museum of Bursa. Movies and television programs with historical settings have often been recorded in Cumalıkızık.

Nusretiye Clock Tower

Nusretiye Clock Tower, aka Tophane Clock Tower, is a clock tower situated in Tophane, a neighborhood in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, Turkey next to Nusretiye Mosque and Tophane Kiosk at the European waterfront of Bosphorus. It was ordered by the Ottoman sultan Abdülmecid I , designed by architect Garabet Amira Balyan and completed in 1848. Designed in neo-classical style, the four-sided, three-story clock tower is 15 m high. A tughra of Sultan Abdülmecid I is put on above the entrance. The original clock and the clock face are in a state of disrepair. The clock tower along with Nusretiye Mosque and the Tophane Kiosk survived the urban renewal and highway construction program of the mid-1950s. However, it remained within the customs warehouse area of Istanbul Port, cut off from the public access today.

Abdal Bridge

The Abdal Bridge is a stone arch bridge in Bursa, Turkey. It was constructed in 1669 to carry the road to Mudanya across the Nilüfer River. Today it connects the Acemler and Hürriyet quarters of Bursa. The bridge was restored in 1971, and has been closed to vehicles since 1978. The bridge was built at the instigation of a merchant called Abdal Çelebi, who was a Sufi follower of Niyâzî-i Mısrî. The construction took three years. It is constructed of sandstone, and comprises twelve arches. These were only partially visible before the restoration, since the ends were filled in with soil. The bridge is 70 m long and 4.8 m wide. It incorporates a stone parapet on its northern side and an inscription at its middle point. This dates from 1984 when the bridge underwent further restoration, and gives the year of construction for the bridge as 1667.
