Brodsworth Hall

Brodsworth Hall, near Brodsworth, 5 miles north west of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, is one of the most complete surviving examples of a Victorian country house in England. It is virtually unchanged since the 1860s. It was designed in the Italianate style by the London architect Philip Wilkinson, then 26 years old. He was commissioned for the grand residence by Charles Sabine Augustus Thellusson, who inherited the estate in 1859. The house has more than 30 rooms, ranging from grand reception rooms with original furnishings to the servants quarters. The house is surrounded by Victorian period gardens, which are used for special events throughout the summer. It is constructed in ashlar limestone with lead and slate roofs. The main block is 2-storey rectangular range having 9-bay frontage. It is a grade I listed structure.

Potteric Carr Nature Reserve

Potteric Carr Nature Reserve is a nature reserve at Potteric Carr, south of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England and managed by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust as their flagship and largest reserve. The reserve was established in 1968, and since then has been developed and extended and now covers 200 hectares . It comprises a mixture of habitats from open water and marsh through reed fen, wet woodland and scrub. In places, there are remnants of the kind of habitat that existed 300 years ago. The reserve has around 8 kilometres of paths accessible to wheelchairs, unassisted), 14 viewing hides and a field centre with a café, where local produce is used whenever possible. The reserve is bisected by railway lines and has been designated by Natural England as a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its reed fen communities.

Keepmoat Stadium

The Keepmoat Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Doncaster, England, with a capacity of 15,231. It cost approximately £20 million to construct, as part of the wider complex it resides within which in total cost approximately £32 million, and is mainly used by Doncaster Rovers, but is also used by Doncaster Rugby League Club and Doncaster Rovers Belles Ladies Football Club. The first match at the stadium was a Rugby League match on 27 December 2006, when Sheffield Eagles beat Doncaster RLFC 16-10. The official opening of the Keepmoat Stadium was on 3 August 2007, with Doncaster Rovers playing a Manchester United XI in front of a crowd of 13,080. United won the game 2–0. On 19 June 2012 it was confirmed that Doncaster Rovers F.C. had secured a 99 Year operating lease from Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council to lead the management of the stadium with a view to improving operating results across the stadium sports partnership. At the Stadium Business Awards 2010 the stadium received the award for the Best Matchday Experience.

The Second World War Experience Centre

The Second World War Experience Centre based in Walton, West Yorkshire, England, which is near Wetherby, is a registered charity and museum/archive which was set up in 1998 to preserve personal memories of the Second World War before they are lost forever. The archive is international in scope and holds letters, diaries, photographs and papers donated by individuals the collection is unique as it concentrates only on the Second World War and personal experience. A network of volunteers across the UK also tape record veterans memories for the Centre and its collection which now numbers in excess of 9000 lives . The Centre is used by researchers, students, school children, authors and members of the public studying for degrees, books or simply their family history. The Centres mission is "To collect and encourage access to the surviving testimony of men and women who lived through the years of the Second World War and to ensure that different audiences share and learn from the personal recollections preserved in the collection".

The Dome Leisure Centre

The Dome Leisure Centre is an arena and leisure centre in Doncaster, England, informally known as The Dome or Doncaster Dome. It has a swimming complex, bars, a sports arena that is also used as an event venue and the United Kingdoms first ever split level ice skating rink. The Dome as a concept was first conceived in 1985, by Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council. The aim of the project was to inject capital and confidence into the community of Doncaster. The Dome was to act as a catalyst for the economic and qualitative regeneration of Doncaster – at a time when the economic climate of Doncaster was depressed, the Dome was to herald a new age. The building was designed by architect Faulkner Brown, and work was underway by November 1986, taking a little under three years for completion with the building officially being declared finished in August 1989. The building was officially opened by HRH Diana, Princess of Wales on 26 November 1989. In total, the project cost £26 million. In 2005 and 2006, it played host to the Premier League Darts.

Frenchgate Centre

The Frenchgate Centre is a large shopping centre located in the town centre of Doncaster, South Yorkshire. It is named after the street of the same name that formed one of the old gates of medieval Doncaster. The centre has been the heart of the town for over 40 years and was originally called the Arndale Centre because it was built, owned and managed by the Arndale Group. It was renamed in 1988 after a change of ownership, with the new name reflecting the name of the street which passes to the east of the centre and which is one of Doncasters main shopping streets. The sale of the centre came just a year after the Frenchgate had undergone a £200 million facelift to transform it into the countrys first shopping centre with integrated public transport and retail interchange. Before the change of name from Arndale to Frenchgate Centre, the centre was home to a controversial statue entitled The Lovers, which depicted a naked couple in a passionate embrace and which was the subject of many complaints from mothers who claimed that it was not appropriate for young children to see. In 2004 the Northern Bus Station and Gresley House, which were located on the northern side of Trafford Way, the road that passed round the northern side of the Frenchgate Centre, and where the rear entrance and service areas were located, were demolished to make way for a new Transport interchange and extension to the Frenchgate Centre. As part of this project the centre also received a major multi-million pound refurbishment, incorporating the centre into the new transport interchange. During the building of the extension, which involved building a tunnel over Trafford Way, part of the tunnel collapsed, severely injuring one of the building workers from the site. The extension and transport interchange opened to the public on 8 June 2006.

Mansion House

Mansion House is a Grade I listed building in Doncaster in South Yorkshire, England. It is used for meetings of Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, and by the civic mayor of the town for official receptions. During the 18th century, Doncaster's position on the Great North Road brought wealth to the town. The town's corporation was frequently called on to host entertainments, initially at the mayor's house or the Angel or Three Cranes inns. In 1719, they took a lease on a house in the High Street for holding feasts, but let this lapse around 1727. They bought a site on the High Street in 1738, with the intention of building a permanent base for entertaining, but little construction took place for several years. In 1746, James Paine was appointed as architect in 1746. Although young, Paine had already worked on Nostell Priory and had designed Heath House, both near Wakefield. Mansion Houses had already been constructed in Newcastle-upon-Tyne , York and London. Whereas these other buildings contained both formal reception rooms and living quarters for the mayor, Doncaster's differed in being designed purely for entertainment, although some later mayors used space in the building as accommodation. Paine planned a building along the now established designs of Assembly Rooms. It was completed in 1748 and officially opened in 1749, the construction having cost £8,000. Paine was immediately offered more local work, starting with alterations to Cusworth Hall. He published his designs for the Mansion House in 1751. This work showed the building flanked by two other structures, marked as houses for the town clerk and recorder, but these were never part of the commission and were not built. William Lindley extended the building between 1801 and 1806, adding an attic storey, a rear banqueting hall and rear landing.
