Besant Nagar

Besant Nagar is one of Chennai's neighborhoods, named after the noted lady theosophist Annie Besant. It is located on the coast of Bay of Bengal to the east, and bounded by Thiruvanmiyur to the South, Adyar to the West and Adyar Estuary to the North. The Theosophical Society Headquarters is located here. It was founded in 1875, and is a worldwide body whose primary objective is Universal Brotherhood and is famed for its Banyan trees and serene settings. It is a part of Chennai which is inhabited by many famous personalities and affluent citizens. Alongside are many restaurants, cafes, shops and boutiques. The main attraction is the Elliot's Beach, named after Edward Elliot, Governor of Madras. It forms the end-point of the Marina Beach shore. It has the Annai Velankanni Church and the Ashtalakshmi Temple along the shore and is sometimes nicknamed 'Bessie'. In the colonial era it was a fairly exclusive place limited to expatriates.

Anna Nagar

Anna Nagar (formerly known as Naduvakkarai), is a neighbourhood in the metropolitan city of Chennai, India. Named after the Tamil leader C. N. Annadurai, it is located in the north-western part of Chennai and forms a part of the Aminjikarai taluk and the Anna Nagar Zone. It is one of the prime residential areas in Chennai. Anna Nagar is the first and the only township in Chennai to follow a standard addressing system followed in the western world. One of the primary landmarks in Anna Nagar is the Anna Nagar Tower, built in 1968 as part of the World Trade Fair. Other important locations include the Anna Arch, Chinthamani, Blue Star, 14 shops, Shanthi Colony, Thirumangalam junction, Padi Grade Separator, Anna Nagar East, and the Anna Nagar West bus depot. Anna Nagar has several established schools and colleges, places of worship, shopping areas with both independent shops and chain stores, and numerous restaurants. The 2nd avenue is an arterial road in Anna Nagar which has emerged as a hub for several restaurants and shops. There are also a number of midsize hospitals and nursing homes catering to the local population.

VGP Universal Kingdom

VGP Universal Kingdom is an amusement park located in East Coast Road in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The park offering small rides during the early days of its history became a full-fledged amusement park in 1997. The park provides several fun and adventure rides for children, youth and adults. VGP 2000 millennium tower, Water cascades, Paneer fort and statueman are some of the main attractions. The ticket for adults and children are 250 and 200 Rupees respectively. It is open all days from 11 AM till 7:30 PM and till 8 PM during weekends. The park is owned by VGP Group of Companies founded by V. G. Panneerdas and V.G.Ravidas is its current managing director, Mrs. Ranjini, Pondicherry, daughter of Selvarajan. K is the future managing director of VGP. “VGP Aqua Kingdom” is the latest high tech addition to the South India’s immensely popular Amusement Park ‘VGP Universal Kingdom’. It is a well known Tourist spot, attracting a huge mass of people, providing joyous retreat and offering healthy and wholesome, activity based entertainment. Apart from its multi dimensional attractions of approx 37 rides, its own unique ‘Statue Man’ the exquisite Panneer Fort, live international shows every year, theme festival celebrations, food courts, multi cuisine restaurants, it has now added an international style Water Park – named as VGP Aqua Kingdom, Designed by the legendary Australian Architect ‘Steve Anderson’. It is a well conceived, themed Water Park that offers activities that thrills, chills and an educative experience of an era bygone. It has one of the biggest Wave Pool, of 15,000 sq ft accommodating 1500 people at a time. It is a fresh water facility with waves generated to resemble the sea. The Lazy River in which one can go around 250 metres in tubes, gazing and lazing around includes a 60 ft cave to go through is a splendid additional attraction. Being a preferred adventurous place for youngsters, The massive funnel type slide 30 ft high, which swirls and gravitates on slopes before hitting the waters along with other equally ecstatic five different varieties of slides each offering an unbelievable experience of drop down from 35 ft high will definitely boost the Adrenaline rush of the rider leaving them wanting for more. Food Facilities From cozy indoor air conditioned fine dining to greenly outdoor dining facility the place serves a wide assortment of the best Chinese, Indian, Mughal and Continental dishes. Party Facilities Offer Pool Side Party Place and Party Plots on lush green lawns adjoining it, providing a lovely atmosphere. VGP also host treasure hunt and other fun events upon request.

St. George's Cathedral

St. George’s Cathedral is a Church of South India cathedral in Chennai, India. The cathedral was built in 1815. St. George’s occupies an important place in the history of Christianity in India, as the Church of South India was inaugurated here on September 27, 1947. The Cathedral was packed and the big pandal outside held over 2,000 people. It marked the breaking down of ecclesiastical barriers between Protestants of various traditions. The architecture of St. George’s Cathedral is remarkable for its tall spire, pillars, marble statues, mural tablets and memorials inside. The Cathedral is a piece of architectural grandeur resting on a tier of steps. The Governors of Fort St. George and their families worshipped here as also the Viceroys when they visited Madras.

Velachery

Velachery is a residential area in South Chennai, a metropolitan city in Tamil Nadu, India. The growth of Velachery during the last decade can be cited due to the growth of the IT sector in south Chennai. It acts as an important hub connecting the rapidly growing business class Information Technology corridor popularly called OMR; the more mature and well connected GST road and the Central Business Districts of the city, which has more relevance to the history of Chennai. Velachery as a whole draws a perfect balance between Old and New Chennai and is a phenomenon in terms of growth. The rapid growth of Velachery as a commercial and residential hub, could be attributed to its geographical advantage in terms of the connectivity to other parts of the city: The Velachery main road on the south, connects the fastest growing suburbs of south Chennai and Mount Road at Guindy via Velachery. A section of this road connects Guindy and Velachery and is home to some of the oldest localities. The 100 ft bypass road connects Guindy on the north west. The Taramani link road on the north east connects Velachery with Rajiv Gandhi Salai . The Jawaharlal Nehru Salai also called the 100 ft road or Inner Ring Road, Chennai passes along the MRTS line and connects near the airport the GST road, an arterial road in Chennai. The Taramani Link Road in Velachery also connects to MGR Salai, an arterial road that connects to OMR Velachery comes under the Taluk of Mambalam-Guindy in Chennai District. In recent Mambalam-Guindy Taluk has been divided Velachery got their own Taluk named as Velachery Taluk. A report by Cushman & Wakefield has projected this locality to be one among the Main Street retail hubs in the city. Dandeeswarar Temple is the oldest temple in the locality.

Virugambakkam

Virugambakkam is a residential neighbourhood of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is an important residential area and is famous for its schools, market, residential colonies and residences of film artists. Virugambakkam had some of Chennai's oldest film studios. Virugambakkam is one of the important localities of Chennai and owes its growth to the expansion of the city in the post-independence period. Prior to the establishment of residential colonies, Virugambakkam was a village covered by paddy fields, mangoe orchards and casurina trees.. Virugambakkam was first included within the Chennai city limits in 1977 along with other villages like Saligramam. Virugambakkam is well-connected with the heart of Chennai city through roads. Buses running through Arcot Road link Virugambakkam with the more inner suburbs of Chennai city.

Saligramam

Saligramam (சாலிகிராமம் ) is a residential locality situated in the western part of Chennai in Tamil Nadu, India. Saligramam is surrounded by Vadapalani in the East Virugambakkam in the West, KK Nagar in the South and Koyambedu in the north. Saligramam was part of Saidapet Taluk in Chengleput District before it was merged with Chennai City and District in the Year 1977. Saligramam was having the Majority of Film Studios. Prasad Studio, AVM studios, Majestic Sudios, Vasu Studios, Shyamala Studios, Star studios, Prakash Studios, Bharani Studios, Arunachalam Studios are some among them. Now Prasad Studio, AVM studios are only operational. Prasad Film Labs and other cine production houses and rerecording theatres are located here. Most Cine personalities and workers are resided over them. SSR Pankajam is famous cine theatre. Sooriya Hospital & Bharani hospital are the leading hospitals in Chennai located here. Arcot Road is the Major road connecting Vadapalani and Virugambakkam via Saligramam. Arunachalam Road is the major road with leading Banks, ATMs, Commercial Complexs, major shops.

Semmozhi Poonga

Semmozhi Poonga is a botanical garden in Chennai set up by the horticulture department of the Government of Tamil Nadu. The garden was opened on 24 November 2010 and is the first botanical garden in the city. The garden is located in the Cathedral Road–Anna Salai junction, opposite the American Consulate, on the erstwhile Drive-in Woodlands Hotel. Encompassing an area of 20 acres, it was built at a cost of 80 million. More than 500 species of plants are being grown in the area, in addition to the 80 trees that was already in existence during the development of the park, some of them being more than 100 years old. The garden houses some of the popular exotic flora and rare plant species, medicinal and aromatic herbs. Many of the exotic plants are imported from countries like China and Thailand, including a plethora of bonsai varieties of ficus microcarpa and ficus ginseng.
