Taube Museum of Art

The Taube Museum of Art is an art museum in Downtown Minot, North Dakota. The museum, previously known as the Minot Art Gallery, was named after Lillian and Coleman Taube. The organization was formed in 1970 and was initially located at the Linha home on US 83. It later moved to the Ward County Historical Society at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds. In 1977, the group purchased the Union National Bank Building at 2 North Main Street. The building was constructed in 1923 after a fire gutted the former building at that location. The bank operated at this location until 1963, when a new bank was built at the southeast conrner of First Ave SW and First Street SW. The museum currently has two galleries, their main gallery and a lower gallery. The museum has a gift shop, which sells painting and other artwork created by local and regional artists. The museum is open from Tuesday through Friday 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM. On September 25, 2012, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for Minot Artspace Lofts, which are being constructed across from the Taube Art Museum.

Roosevelt Park Zoo

The Roosevelt Park Zoo is a zoo in Minot, North Dakota. It opened in 1920 and the first animal exhibition featured the American Bison. In 1970, the zoo was separated from the city-owned Roosevelt Park and the Greater Minot Zoological Society was created to operate the zoo, it is the second zoo built in North Dakota. The zoo is open May through September. The flood of 1969 caused every bird and animal to be moved from the zoo, which led to the redesign of the zoo grounds. A foot bridge, a feline house, and a new bear den were constructed. The 2011 Souris River Flood caused the animals once again to be relocated from the zoo. Due to cleanup efforts on the grounds and buildings, the zoo did not open for the 2012 season. The Zoo re-opened on May 4 of 2013.

Ward County Courthouse

The Ward County Courthouse in Minot, North Dakota was built in 1929. Along with two other "distinctive county buildings in North Dakota", the Barnes County Courthouse and the Burke County Courthouse, it was designed by the Minneapolis, Minnesota, firm Toltz, King, and Day. Costing $498,000, it was the most expensive county courthouse built in the state for almost 30 years. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

Minot Carnegie Library

Minot Carnegie Library on 2nd Ave., SE, in Downtown Minot, North Dakota, United States, was built in 1911. It was designed by Minot architects Woodruff & McGulpin in Classical Revival style. It has also been known as Free Public Library, Carnegie Library and Minot Public Library. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. It served as the public library for Minot from 1912 until 1965, until the new Minot Public Library building was built. It was used as a library until 1965, then used as a senior center, then was vacant from 1979 until the time of NRHP listing.

Scandinavian Heritage Park

Scandinavian Heritage Park is a park located in the Upper Brooklyn neighborhood of Minot, North Dakota. Scandinavian Heritage Park features remembrances and replicas from each of the Scandinavian countries: Sweden, Norway and Denmark, as well as Finland and Iceland. The park was established during 1988 to celebrate and preserve Scandinavian heritage. The first building was dedicated October 9, 1990. It is believed to be the only park in the world representing all five Nordic countries. The park is supported by the Scandinavian Heritage Association and Norsk Høstfest, both of which have offices at the park. The park is also home to the annual Integrity Jazz Festival held in June.

Arlene Theater

The Arlene Theater is the name of a performance theater in Downtown Minot, North Dakota. The theater is located on First Street Southeast in Downtown Minot. The building was originally built and dedicated as the Minot Labor Temple. The Mouse River Players, a volunteer community theater group purchased the building in 2004. It was called the Mouse River Players Community Arts Center, but renamed after Arlene Saugstad in 2006. Saugstad was instrumental in the organization of the Mouse River Players in 1971. In 2009, the theater installed stadium seating to accommodate two hundred audience members.

North Dakota State Fair

The North Dakota State Fair is an annual state fair held each July in Minot, North Dakota, USA. The fair has carnival rides, agricultural expositions, government and commercial exhibitions, and a variety of musical and performance entertainment. The fairgrounds are located along Burdick Expressway in east Minot. The facilities on the site are used for a variety of other events; the grandstand is regularly used for Nodak Speedway stock car races, and the All Seasons Arena is frequently used for conventions, sporting events and festivals, including Norsk Høstfest. The fair was first held in Minot in 1922 but was not officially sanctioned by the state government until 1966. The North Dakota State Fair is the largest event in the state, drawing around 250,000 people.[1] Attendance increased every year from 2000 to 2005. In 2009, the fair has set a record with the attendance of 296,919. The 2010 fair increased its record to over 308,000. The 2012 Fair increased its record to 310,839 and it increased even further for the 2013 fair to 320,486. On July 10, 2011, it was announced that the 2011 fair would be cancelled because of the 2011 Souris River flood a month before which left much of the grounds underwater. This announcement came after originally planning to hold the fair without competitive events.

Soo Line Passenger Depot

The Soo Line Passenger Depot, built in 1912, now houses the Old Soo Depot Transportation Museum. It is located in historic Downtown Minot, North Dakota, USA. The depot once served the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sault Ste. Marie Railroad, which is now part of the Canadian Pacific Railway. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The museum is open to the general public mid-May into October. The museum consists of a main information room, a restoration hangar, the new Texas Flying Legends hangar, and the Oswin H. Elker Hangar.

Levi Glick Round Barn

The Levi Glick Round Barn near Surrey, North Dakota, United States, is a round barn that was built in 1923 by ethnic German immigrants. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. It is "the only masonry tile round barn built in the state" and may also be associated significantly with "history of the Mennonites, the particular North Dakota ethnic group associated with the barn."

Sigdal House

Sigdal House is an historic Norwegian log home which was relocated to Minot, North Dakota. The Sigdal House is a 200-year-old house originally from the Vatnas area of Sigdal, Norway. It is located in the Scandinavian Heritage Park situated in the Upper Brooklyn neighborhood of Minot, North Dakota. It is typical of houses common to rural Norway during the 19th century. The house was purchased by the Scandinavian Heritage Association and restored to museum standards. The house had been dismantled in Norway, shipped to and reassembled on site at the park. The completed house was dedicated on October 15, 1991 during the annual Norsk Høstfest.

Minot Municipal Auditorium

The Minot Municipal Auditorium is a 5,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Downtown Minot, North Dakota. It was built in 1954. It hosts conventions and sporting events, primarily basketball, and competes with the MSU Dome and All Seasons Arena for local events. It was the home of the Minot SkyRockets basketball team. The Director of the Auditorium is Scott Collins. The auditorium is also the location of the municipal court and Minot Park District office. In 2012, the building served as a venue for concerts by Puddle of Mudd, Papa Roach and Kansas.

MSU Dome

MSU Dome is a 10,000-seat multi-purpose arena on 11th Ave NW in Minot, North Dakota. It is home to the Minot State University Beavers basketball team. It is also regularly used for the Prairie Rose State Games, Regional Special Olympics, Math Track Meets, and Minot High School and MSU graduation ceremonies. The MSU Dome is also home to several North Dakota High School Championships each year, of these the North Dakota State Class B Basketball Championship is the biggest attraction to Minot and the Dome.

Corbett Field

Corbett Field, formerly known as the Minot Municipal Ballpark, is a baseball park located south of the Roosevelt Park Zoo in Minot, North Dakota. The park was built between 1935 and 1937 through the Federal Emergency Relief Administration. It was designed by Minot architect Ira Rush. In 1947, the Minot Park Board began improvements on the park, including a roof on the grandstand and field lights. The namesake of the park, Victor A. Corbett, was a local dentist, who served as the president of the Park Board during that time. The orange seats that were later added to the grandstands were purchased from the old Fulton County Stadium. The Minot Mallards, a team playing in the integrated Manitoba-Dakota League or Mandak League, began playing at Corbett Field in May 1950. The name Mallards was an entry submitted by Minotian Bonnie Rae Miller, in a fan-naming contest, beating out the Kernels and the Plainsmen. In the summer of 1950, Satchel Paige pitched three games for the Mallards. After the league folded, the Mallards continued to play at the ballpark in the 1960s for the Northern League. In 1995, a newly revived Minot Mallards began playing at the park in the Prairie League, but the league folded in 1997. Today, the Minot State Beavers and Bishop Ryan Lions and Minot High Magicians play their games at the field. The Minot Metros, a youth baseball team, and the American Legion Class A Minot Vistas also play their games at Corbett Field. The parking lot for the stadium is located on the northeast corner of the property, along the Burdick Expressway.

The Tufveson House is a Queen Anne style house built in 1900 in Minot, North Dakota. The builder of the home was Nels Tufveson, an immigrant from Sweden. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

The Minot Park District is the unit of the Minot, North Dakota municipal government responsible for maintaining city parks. The District is managed by a board of five directors elected by city voters to four year terms. The district also serves as the local forestry service, trimming and planting trees across the city. Through its efforts, Minot became a Tree City USA in 1992.

Roosevelt Park

Roosevelt Park is a park in Minot, North Dakota operated by the Minot Park District. It is the largest park in the city of Minot. The park is named after Theodore Roosevelt, former president of the United States, who is honoured by a large statue in the middle of the park. Roosevelt Park contains hiking and biking trails, tennis courts, a skate park, a swimming pool and water slide, a band shelter, and picnic shelters. It is also the location of the Magic City Express 2/5 scale passenger train. The park is located along the Souris River between Eastwood Estates and the separately managed Roosevelt Park Zoo. Burdick Expressway runs along the south end of the park.

Minot State University

Minot State University is a four-year institution of higher learning in Minot, North Dakota. Founded in 1913 as a normal school, Minot State University is the third-largest university in North Dakota, offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Minot State University was founded in 1913 and has evolved from a normal school to a Carnegie Master’s I institution, despite the fact that study of a foreign language in not required for a BA. Three colleges comprise the university’s academic offerings: Arts and Sciences, Business, and Education and Health Sciences. Nine master's degrees and one education specialist degree are offered in such areas as communication disorders, management, and mathematics. There is a mix of liberal arts and professional programs offering more than 60 majors at the undergraduate level. MSU is a member of the North Dakota University System, which comprises eleven institutions representing doctoral, master, baccalaureate, and community colleges. The State Board of Higher Education consists of nine members and is the governing board of the System. Minot State University has a Board of Regents acting as an advisory board and champion for the institution. Minot State's mascot is the beaver and the school colors are red and green (though Maroon has sometimes been used in the past). The campus newspaper is called the Red and Green. MSU's campus is at the base of North Hill, just west of Broadway.

Maysa Arena

Maysa Arena is a multi-purpose venue located on South Hill in Minot, North Dakota. The name Maysa is an acronym for Minot Area Youth Skating Association, a group that proposed the construction of the two-rink arena in the 1990s. The $3.9 million arena on the Burdick Expressway was opened in October 2000. The arena is home to the Minot Minotauros of the North American Hockey League and the Minot State Beavers men's ice hockey of the American Collegiate Hockey Association. There are currently plans to expand Maysa Arena by adding a third sheet of ice. Current plans for the third rink would provide seating for fourteen hundred to nineteen hundred people with a balcony with standing room for an additional three to five hundred people. The expansion is estimated to cost between $5.5 million and $7 million The MAYSA Expansion Committee hopes to have the project completed by 2014.

Polaris Park

Polaris Park is a park and surrounding residential neighborhood on North Hill in Minot, North Dakota. The neighborhood is roughly bounded by 30th Ave NW, Frontage Road, 24th Ave NW and 8th St NW. The park, which is owned by the Minot Park District, is home to a 9-hole disc golf course, an outdoor ice rink, a skatepark, tennis courts, a picnic shelter and a baseball field. The Polaris Park neighborhood is home to a number of single family homes and apartment complexes north and east of the park. Adjacent to the park is the St. Alexius Clinic, which is affiliated with St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck. Frontage Road in Polaris Park is home to a few businesses, including MLT Vacations, North Hill's second largest employer.

Herb Parker Stadium

Herb Parker Stadium is a 4,500-seat multi-purpose stadium in Minot, North Dakota, USA. The stadium is home to the Minot State University Beavers football team. The stadium was named for the long time coach and athletic director, Herbert Mitchell Parker in 1983. The Beavers formerly belonged to the Dakota Athletic Conference in the NAIA, but in 2012 they became part of the NCAA Division II, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference . The stadium is undergoing a multiple phase improvement project, which includes construction of a press box, concessions, ticketing office, a lobby, merchandising area and a video scoreboard.

Minot International Airport

Minot International Airport (IATA: MOT, ICAO: KMOT, FAA LID: MOT) is in Ward County, North Dakota, two miles north of the city of Minot, which owns it. The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015 categorized it as a primary commercial service airport. MOT currently handles between ten and fifteen commercial flights a day from three airlines, as well as various charters and general aviation traffic. For many years Northwest Airlines, followed by Delta Air Lines, was the airport's sole commercial carrier but an economic and population boom have resulted in other carriers adding flights as well. Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and Allegiant Airlines currently offer flights to Minneapolis, Denver, and Phoenix/Mesa and Las Vegas, respectively. Minot International has no scheduled passenger airline service out of the country, but receives its international title (like many other airports) because of its customs service.Customs service is available for aircraft arriving from Canada and other countries. The TSA fully searches all passengers and carry-on luggage prior to boarding, rather than using a selective process as is the case at major airports. Delta Air Lines operates up to six daily flights to Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport. All are on Delta Connection to Minneapolis. Delta Air Lines commands the largest percentage of MOT travelers. United Airlines became Minot's second largest airline in 2010. It currently operates four daily flights to Denver International Airport. United also flies multiple weekly charters to Houston, Texas. Allegiant Airlines became the airport's third airline in 2010, with flights to Las Vegas. Allegiant then added service to Phoenix-Mesa as well. The number of flights to each destinations fluctuates. Frontier Airlines became the airport's fourth airline in 2012 with four flights per week to Denver International Airport. The original Frontier Airlines served Minot, on a route that connected it with Saskatoon, Regina and Denver, prior to that airline's bankruptcy and halting of operations in 1986. Though passenger loads were high, Frontier discontinued service from Minot in 2015 due to restructuring of the airline.

Minot station

Minot is a train station in Minot, North Dakota served by Amtrak, the national railroad passenger system. The station is located at the site of the former Great Northern Railway station, adjacent to the Minot Public Library, and close to Minot's City Hall and Downtown Minot. Minot is a service stop for Amtrak's daily Empire Builder, which also serves six other cities in North Dakota. This is the only scheduled service stop between Minneapolis, Minnesota and Havre, Montana. The Minot station features the most boardings and detrainings of any Amtrak station in the state. The station was built in 1905 by the Great Northern Railway. It originally featured a brick exterior and a gabled roof. In 1975, the station was modernized; a stucco exterior and a flat roofline drastically altered the appearance of the depot. According to Great American Stations, the Amtrak Depot Restoration Committee used federal, state and city funds to renovate the station in recent years. In 2008, the brick exterior and gabled roof were restored, while the renovation of the interior was completed in Fall 2010. However, flooding in the summer of 2011 damaged the interior of the main waiting room, which was then closed for repairs. A small temporary waiting room was opened in early Nov 2011 for Empire Builder passengers to use until the main waiting room was repaired. In fall 2012, Amtrak proceeded with the next round of improvements, including repairs to the waiting room's tile floor and wall paneling. Work was completed by April 2013 and a few weeks later, on National Train Day, the city held an open house at the depot. That September, 15 wood benches were installed in the main waiting room. The Minot Area Community Foundation, which supports both local and national charities and charitable causes, funded the project through a $30,000 grant. The platform, tracks and station building are all owned by BNSF Railway.
