Chittagong

Chittagong is a major coastal seaport city and financial centre in southeastern Bangladesh. The Chittagong Metropolitan Area has a population of over 6.5 million, making it the second largest city in the country. It is the capital of an eponymous district and division. The city is located on the banks of the Karnaphuli River between the Chittagong Hill Tracts and the Bay of Bengal. The natural harbour of Chittagong has been a gateway to the historic region of Bengal for centuries. It was a prominent trading centre and hosted the first European colonial enclaves in Bengal, which were operated by the Portuguese in the 16th and 17th centuries. The district was ruled by the Sultanate of Bengal, the Kingdom of Mrauk U and the Mughal Empire until the 18th century, at which point it was ceded to the British East India Company. The port was the terminus of the Grand Trunk Road and the Assam Bengal Railway. During the Burma Campaign in World War II, the city was also a key base for Allied Forces. Rapid industrialisation followed the war. Becoming a part of East Pakistan in 1947, the city was the site of Bangladesh's Declaration of Independence in 1971. Modern Chittagong is a major hub of trade and industry. The Port of Chittagong is the largest international seaport on the eastern seaboard of the Bay of Bengal. The city is home to many of Bangladesh's oldest and largest companies, as well as the Chittagong Stock Exchange, the Chittagong Tea Auction and the eastern division of the Bangladesh Railway. The Chittagong Naval Area is the largest base of the Bangladesh Navy. Though despite having a high and growing urban per capita GDP in South Asia and being one of the fastest growing cities in the world, the city has a poverty rate of 11.3%, as of 2010. Chittagong is reputed as a relatively clean city, but still confronts substantial logistical and socioeconomic problems.

Comilla

Comilla is a city in eastern Bangladesh, located along the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway. It is the administrative center of the Comilla District, part of the Chittagong Division. Comilla is the second-largest city of eastern Bangladesh after Chittagong and is one of the three oldest cities in Bangladesh.

Ujjayanta Palace

The Ujjayanta Palace is a former royal palace of the Tripura situated in Agartala, the capital of the Indian state of Tripura, and also served as the meeting place of the Tripura Legislative Assembly until 2011 and now a museum. Ujjayanta Palace is a tourist attraction of Agartala, and tours are conducted by the Tripura Tourism Department. The Palace stands on the banks of a small lake surrounded by the lush greenery of Mughal gardens in Agartala, sprawling over 28 hectares of parkland, the exotic palace has several Hindu temples dedicated to Lakshmi Narayan, Uma-Maheshwari, Kali and Jagannath. It is the largest museum in Northeast India covering an area of over 800 acres of land in the capital city, Ujjayanta Palace was the command hub until the erstwhile princely Tripura`s accession to India in October 1949. The museum showcases the lifestyle, arts, culture, tradition and utility crafts, beside the customs and practices of various communities residing in northeast India. The name Ujjayanta Palace was given by Rabindranath Tagore. The Palace was purchased from the royal family by the Tripura government in 1972-73 for Rs. 2.5 million, housed the state legislative assembly till July 2011. It was constructed between 1899 and 1901 by then Tripura king, Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya.

Cox's Bazar

Coxs Bazar is a town, a fishing port and district headquarters in Bangladesh. It is one of the worlds longest uninterrupted natural sandy sea beaches, The beach in Coxs Bazar is an unbroken 125 km sandy sea beach with a gentle slope. It is located 150 km south of the industrial port Chittagong. Cox’s Bazar is also known by the name Panowa, whose literal translation means "yellow flower." Its other old name was "Palongkee". The modern Coxs Bazar derives its name from Captain Hiram Cox, an officer serving in British India. An officer of the British East India Company, Captain Cox was appointed Superintendent of Palongkee outpost after Warren Hastings became Governor of Bengal. Captain Cox was specially mobilised to deal with a century-long conflict between Arakan refugees and local Rakhains. He embarked upon the mammoth task of rehabilitating refugees in the area and made significant progress. A premature death took Captain Cox in 1799 before he could finish his work. To commemorate his role in rehabilitation work, a market was established and named Coxs Bazar after him. Today, Coxs Bazar is one of the most-visited tourist destinations in Bangladesh. It has yet to become a major international tourist destination, and has no international hotel chains, due to lack of publicity and transportation. In 2013, the Bangladesh Government formed the Tourist Police unit to better protect local and foreign tourists, as well as to look after the nature and wildlife in the tourist spots of Coxs Bazar.

Kaptai Lake

Kaptai Lake is a man made lake in south-eastern Bangladesh. It is located in the Kaptai Upazila under Rangamati District of Chittagong Division. The lake was created as a result of building the Kaptai Dam on the Karnaphuli River, as part of the Karnaphuli Hydro-electric project. The Kaptai Lakes average depth is 100 feet and maximum depth is 490 feet .

Kal Bhairab Temple

Kal Bhairab Temple is a Hindu temple, dedicated to the God Shiva, located in Medda in the Brahmanbaria district of Bangladesh. The temple is famed for the giant Shivalinga, a 28-feet tall Shiva statue assumed to be the largest in the world. Though the Hindu Lord Shiva, who is called the Kal Bhairab is the main attraction, Goddess Kali is also worshipped there. The statue of Kali is situated on the right side of the Kal Bhairab and the statue of the Goddess Saraswati is placed on the left. The temple is a major pilgrimage place for Shaivites in Bangladesh.

Asian University for Women

Asian University for Women is the first liberal arts university for women in South Asia and is one of only two international universities in Bangladesh. It was originally granted land by the government of Bangladesh and its current campus as well as planned new campus are located in the port city of Chittagong.

University of Chittagong

The University of Chittagong is a public, multidisciplinary, research university located in Hathazari Upazila, Chittagong District, Bangladesh, 22 kilometres north of Chittagong city. The university was established in 1966. It is one of the largest universities by campus area in Bangladesh, and has approximately 22,000 students and 750 faculty members.

Bangladesh Maritime Museum

Bangladesh Maritime Museum is a museum in a small room at the old seamanship class building in Bangladesh Marine Academy. The US chapter of the Juldia Marine Academy Alumni Association took the initiative to obtain permission from the Bangladesh government to house the various artifacts inside. These were mostly donated by JMAAA USA.

Saka Haphong

Saka Haphong is a peak in Bangladesh, often considered the highest point of the country, with an elevation of 1,052 metres . Located on the Bangladesh-Burma border, it is situated between Thanchi, Bandarban, Bangladesh and the Chin State of Burma. Saka Haphong is not officially the highest peak of Bangladesh, but maps and other data indicate there are no higher peaks within the country. In February 2006 a GPS reading of 1,064 metres was recorded on this summit by English adventurer Ginge Fullen. The location he recorded, 21°47′11″N 92°36′36″E / 21.78639°N 92.61°E, accurately matches the location given by Russian topographic mapping and SRTM data, although these sources show its height to be slightly lower, at 1,052 metres. Recently two trekking clubs counted the height of Saka Haphong as 3,488 and 3,461 feet respectively. Any of these figures would make it the highest mountain in Bangladesh, exceeding the height of Keokradong which is 3,172 feet high.

Zow Tlang

Zow Tlang is guarding the eastern horizon of Bangladesh and Myanmar border. In Bawm language the term Zow means Mizo and Tlang means Mountain. According to American and Russian topographic maps Zow Tlang is mentioned as Mowdok Mual. As per Bangla Trek, it is the second highest peak of the country; though it is not officially recognized by the government till date. Many accomplished local adventurers describe this as one of the most wildest peak of Bangladesh. The peak was first summitted in 2005 by two Bangladeshi adventurers, Subrata Das Nitish and Bijoy Shankar Kar. The same team summitted the mountain again in 2007. The altitude couldn't be measured in these two expeditions as the team wasn't carrying any GPS device. On January 12, 2012, the peak was summitted for the third time by the Bangla Trek team members Tashdid Rezwan Mugdho, Tarikul Alom Sujon, Salehin Arshady & SM Mainul. Measured altitude and Geo location of the peak by their Garmin eTrex 20 was 1021.69 meter and 21°40’23.78″N & 92°36’16.01″E. Two of the team members, Mugdho and Sujon died in a tragic bus accident on their way back to Bandarban after the expedition. The other two members, Salehin and Mainul suffered serious injuries and it took them a long time to recover. On October 13, 2013, a team led by Shahzaman Chowdhury Hira became the third team to summit the peak at 1400 hrs. This team was having 6 members Sharfaraj Hussain Jony, Sidratul Afia Mohona, Mahbubur Rahman, Abdullah Anas Oni and Baqui Billah Milon. Member of this team Mohona was the first woman ever to summit this very peak. Several other teams have made their way to the summit in last few years.

Keokradong

Keokradong is a peak located in Bandarban, Bangladesh, with an elevation of 986 metres . Some sources claim it as the highest point of Bangladesh. On the top of Keokradong there is a small shelter and a signboard put up by the Bangladeshi military proclaiming the elevation to be 3,172 feet. Height measured by handheld GPS shows it is 986 metres with 3m accuracy. There is a controversy about the highest point of Bangladesh, and some sources indicate Mowdok Mual as the most elevated peak of the country.

Thingdawl Te Tlang

Thingdawlte Tlang is a significant peak of Bangladesh.This peak is the Highest point of 'lawmbok Row' range and possible 7th highest of the country.In December,2012 a local explorer Fahim Hasan of "BD Explorer" summited the peak of Thingdawlte Tlang and measured the height for the first time.Which is 3149 feet(959.8 m). Gps accuracy was 3m(+/-).The name of the peak was collected by BD Explorer and confirmed by the local tribal people of Thingdawl Te village. Few days later Zaqiul Deep of "Travelers Of Bangladesh" measured the peak as 3,133 feet(955m). The most easiest route to summit this peak is to start from Ruma of Bandarban district. Nearest sattlement is known as Thingdawlte(Bawm)village.This peak is named after this village.

Jadipai waterfall

Jadipai Waterfall located at Ruma Upazila of Bandarban District is one of the widest water falls in Bangladesh. It is one of the most attractive tourist spots of Bangladesh. The flow of Jadipai fall becomes robust during the rainy season.

Nafa-khum

Nafa-khum is a waterfall in Bangladesh on the Sangu River. It is among the largest waterfalls in the country by volume of water falling. The wild hilly river Sangu suddenly falls down here about 25–30 feet. The falls are located in a remote area three hours walking distance from Remakri, Thanchi Upazila, Bandarban District. Remakri is located three hours by boat on the Sangu River from Tindu, which is itself three hours by boat from Thanchi. Nafa-khum is not very popular as a tourist destination. The word "Khum" in Marma language means "Waterfall". A special type of flying fish, whose local name is nating, is found at the bottom in a small cave as they swim against the stream but cannot jump over the height of the fall.

Inani Beach

Inani Beach is an 18-kilometre-long sea beach in Ukhia Upazila of Coxs Bazar District, Bangladesh. It has a nice view having a lot of coral stone. This coral stones look green and live in summer or in rainy season. But if someone want to enjoy to look a lot of coral stone then one should go there in winter.

Adinath Temple

Adinath Temple, located on the summit of the Mainak Hill on Maheshkhali Island off the coast of Coxs Bazar, Bangladesh, is dedicated to the Hindu God, Shiva, who is worshipped as Adinath. The temple is famous for the annual fair held at the foot of the Mainak Hill in the month of Phalgun as per the Bengali calendar. The fair, which lasts 13 days, draws thousands of Hindus from across Bangladesh.

Chandranath Temple

Chandranath Temple, located on top of the Chandranath hill, is a famous Shakti Peeth located near Sitakunda in Bangladesh where, as per Hindu sacred texts, the right arm of Goddess Sati fell. Sitakunda Chandranath Temple is a holy place of pilgrimage.

Comilla Jagannath Temple

Comilla Jagannath Temple, also known as "Saptaratna Mandir", is a temple dedicated to the Hindu God Jagannath in Comilla, Bangladesh. It dates back to the 16th century, and was built by Sree Sreejoktou Moharaja Rada Kishor Manikuo Bahadur, who was the king of Tripura. The deities of Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra were originally installed in a temple in Tripura from where they were subsequently shifted to this temple. The terracotta brick work of the temple is in the typical Bengal style of temple architecture. Jagannath Temple is one of the oldest temples of Comilla district. It is located two km East from Comilla town, on East Bibirbazar Road, Comilla.

Chandanpura Masjid

The Chandanpura Masjid is a mosque situated in the old part of Chittagong on the Nabab Siraj ud-Daulah road in Bangladesh. It is one of the famous landmarks in Chittagong and a popular tourist attraction for its impressive architecture consisting of multiple domes and minarets painted in bright colors. Although it was renovated in 1952, the mosque has deteriorated over the years due to environmental factors, such as air pollution. Little is known about the origin and the history behind the mosque except for the local historians.

Dampa Tiger Reserve

Dampa Tiger Reserve or Dampha Tiger Reserve, the largest wildlife sanctuary in Mizoram, was notified in 1985 and declared a Tiger Reserve in 1994. It is situated in the western part of Mizoram state, at the international border with Bangladesh about 127 km from Aizawl. It covers an area of approximately 550 km². The tropical forests of Dampa are home to rich flora and fauna. It consists of forest interpolated with steep precipitous hills, deep valleys, jungle streams, ripping rivulets, natural salts licks, with an altitudinal zone of 200–800 mts. Dampa Tiger Reserve is a part of Project Tiger funded by the Government of India.

Shah Amanat International Airport

Shah Amanat International Airport , is an international airport serving Bangladesh's southeastern port city of Chittagong. Operated and maintained by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, it is the second largest airport in Bangladesh. It is also used by the Bangladesh Air Force. It was formerly known as MA Hannan International Airport, named after Awami League politician M. A. Hannan, but was renamed on 2 April 2005 by the government of Bangladesh, after an Islamic saint Hazrat Shah Amanat. The airport is capable of annually handling 1.5 million passengers and 6,000 tonnes of cargo. The airport is served by nine passenger airlines which connect the airport internationally with few Middle Eastern cities, Bangkok, Kolkata and Kuala Lumpur; along with domestic flights to Dhaka. Emirates SkyCargo and Etihad Cargo offer freighter flights to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong and Guangzhou.

Dharmasagar is a century old man-made pond in Comilla. The pond was dug by the Tripura’s King Dharma Manikya I in 1458. Sachin Dev Burman and Kazi Nazrul Islam ware here during their time in Comilla. There is memorial center of Nazrul beside the pond.

Foy's Lake

Foys Lake is a man-made lake in Chittagong, Bangladesh. It was created in 1924 by constructing a dam across the stream that came down from the hills in the northern part of Chittagong. The purpose of creating an artificial lake was to provide water to the residence of railway colony. It was named after Mr Foy who was a Railway engineer and believed to materialized the project. Pahartali was basically a railway town with workshop, yard and shed. A good number of railway employees lives there. Presently, a carriage workshop, diesel workshop, loco shed, laboratory, stores, electric workshop, school are located. The area belongs to Railway. However, an amusement park, managed by the Concord group, is located here.

Jamiatul Falah Mosque

Baitul Falah or Jamiatul Falah is the largest Mosque of Chittagong, Bangladesh. It is situated in an important place of Chittagong where the WASA headquarters for Chittagong is also situated. This three-storied unique mosque is a model of superb architecture with numerous arches. Approximately 5000 people can say their prayers at a time in this mosque. A huge ground is stretched in front of the main complex that is used during the eve of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha, which are Muslim festivals. On the eve of Eid 50,000 people can gather here altogether. The mosque is at a crucial circle or junction of roads in Chittagong that is linked with Dampara Police Line . The famous shrine of Garibullah Shah is situated a few yards away from the police line. The Mosque is maintained by the Chittagong City Corporation.

Maithai jama Haphong

Located at the south-eastern part of Chittagong hill tracts between Bangladesh-India border area,Maithai jama Haphong is the 6th highest peak of Bangladesh.But it is not officially recognized according to the Bangladesh government.This peak is also the 2nd highest peak of Reng Tlang range after Dumlong.In 2014,7 December Fahim Hasan from Dhaka,member of an adventure team BD Explorer with the helps of the adjacent local villagers summited the peak of Maithai jama Haphong and measured this peak as 3,174 feet/967 meters by Garmin gps device for the first time.Exact Geo location of the highest point is N 22°00.714',E 92°35.863'. Next year,on 3 January 2015,During "Survey South-Eastern zone of Bangladesh 2014-15" led by D-Way Expeditor's team members measured this peak.Their measured altitude was 3,178 feet(gps accuracy +/-10 feet).Few days later a local trekker named Ratul BD summited the Maithaijama Haphong peak as 3rd team. The name "Maithai jam Haphong" came from the local Tripura language.Which means,"Bad hilly place for vegetation". According to the Tripura language "Haphong" means "hill".Stream(jhiri) route to the summit is much adventurous & the view from the peak is extraordinary. Location: Bilaichori,Rangamati. Range:Reng Tlang Elevation: 3,174 feet (GPS accuracy: 6 feet +/-) Position: N 22°00.714',E 92°35.863' 1st Measured By: BD Explorer

Dumlong

Dumlong mountain in Belaichori, Rangamati, Bangladesh may be the second highest mountain in the country, as claimed by Md.Wadud Mohosin Rubel with his three travel fellows, Asif Aminur Rashid, Nagib Meshkat & Abdul Haq in 2011. On the basis of Garmin GPS they have measured the height of the mountain which is 3314 feet. The location he recorded, 22°02′02.1″N 92°35′36.3″E, accurately matches the location given by Google Earth. A few months after his expedition, the Travelers of Bangladesh team led by Zaqiul Deep measured this peak as 3,312 feet. After that Fahim Hasan of BD Explorer reached the summit of Dumlong as a 3rd team. There is little doubt about the height of Dumlong peak but whether it is 2nd or 3rd highest peak in the country, is not confirmed yet. It is the highest peak of Rangamati hill district and also the one of three 1000 metres peaks in Bangladesh.

Mukhra Thuthai haphong

Mukhra Thuthai Haphong is a significant border peak of Bangladesh, situated in the southern part of Belaichori of Rangamati Hill District. In April 2013, Fahim Hasan of BD Explorer summitted and measured this peak for the first time. Elevation measured at 953.6 metres . The name of the peak was collected by BD Explorer and confirmed by the local tribal people of Dhupanichora village. The name Mukhra Thuthai Haphong came from the Tripura language. Nearest settlement is known as Dhupanichora para. The easiest route to summit this peak is to start from Ruma of Bandarban district.
