Springbrook National Park

The Springbrook National Park is a protected national park that is located in the Gold Coast hinterland of Queensland, Australia. The 6,197-hectare park is situated on the McPherson Range, near Springbrook, approximately 100 kilometres south of Brisbane. The park is part of the Shield Volcano Group of the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Gondwana Rainforests of Australia. In December 1994, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee officially extended the area now known as the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area over the Scenic Rim and the rainforests of northern New South Wales. In 2007 the areas of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia were added to the Australian National Heritage List. The park is part of the Scenic Rim Important Bird Area, identified as such by BirdLife International because of its importance in the conservation of several species of threatened birds.

Tamborine National Park

Tamborine is a national park in the Gold Coast hinterland of South East Queensland, Australia, 45 km south of Brisbane. It covers 11.60 km² on the plateau of Tamborine Mountain and around its foothills. The plateau is 8 km long, 5 km wide and rises to an altitude of 525 m . The elevation of the plateau keeps the temperature down a little in summer although December to April is also the wettest time to visit. Winter is drier but also cooler. The protected area is scattered across 14 separate reserves which make up the National Park, interspersed with villages. There are a number of picnic areas as well as scenic drives and many bushwalks to lookouts, gorges, cliffs, waterfalls, rainforest areas, wet eucalypt forest, open forest and woodlands. Wildlife in the park includes Lyrebirds, the elusive platypus, brush-turkeys, lorikeets, eastern whipbirds and satin bowerbirds. The significance of the park is underscored by the fact that it provides habitat for 85% of all fauna species and 65% of all flora species in the Gold Coast City area. Camping is not permitted in any part of the park. A range of small-scale cottages, bed-and-breakfast style accommodation, hotels and motels is available. The main areas to visit in the park are Joalah, Cedar Creek, The Knoll, MacDonald Park, Niches Corner, Palm Grove and Witches Falls. All have picnic facilities and walking tracks. All but Cedar Creek have information centres; most have toilets and some have barbecues.

Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens

The Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens, formerly known as the Rosser Park Regional Botanic Gardens, and before that simply Rosser Park, are located on Ashmore Road, Benowa, Gold Coast, Australia. The development of the master plan for the botanic gardens involved more than 18 months investigation, site analysis and community consultation. The plan was adopted by Gold Coast City in 2002 and the first plantings took place in 2003. The south-west boundary of the park extends down to the Nerang River, the Royal Pines Resort Golf Course runs all along the northern boundary and Benowa Waters residential area is located to the south. The gardens have a large variety of plants, including raised vegetable, fruit and herb gardens. These gardens contain a variety of vegetables such as tomatoes and chilis. This creates a centre of learning for all children and adults and makes it possible for one to see how easy it is to grow these vegetables.

Natural Bridge

Natural Bridge is a locality in the far south west of the City of Gold Coast local government area of South East Queensland, Australia. Its name is taken from a rock arch in Springbrook National Park. A waterfall along Cave Creek, a tributary of the Nerang River flows through the arch. Natural Bridge is located at the southern extent of the Nerang River valley on the southern border with New South Wales, between the Springbrook plateau and Binna Burra in the Scenic Rim Region. The western half of Natural Bridge is protected within Lamington National Park. The rugged landscape here is dotted with waterfalls, lookouts and peaks rising above 1,100 metres. The valley is traversed along its length via the Nerang Murwillumbah Road which continues south. The Police Citizens Youth Club operates the Bornhoffen camp as a community based group accommodation centre.

Big Brother Australia

Big Brother Australia was the Australian version of the international Big Brother reality television series. Big Brother Australia was produced from 2001 and ran for eight seasons on Network Ten before the network cancelled it in July 2008 after experiencing audience erosion and controversy. Big Brother Australia eventually returned on 13 August 2012 with a ninth season on the Nine Network with repeats on GO!. It aired its tenth season on Nine from 29 July 2013 to 6 November 2013. The eleventh and final season started on 8 September 2014 and concluded on 26 November 2014. All eleven seasons have been produced by Endemol Southern Star. From its first season until its seventh season in 2007 the show was hosted by Gretel Killeen. With a revamp of the series in 2008 she was replaced by radio duo Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O. Since the show returned in 2012, it has been hosted by Sonia Kruger. Mike Goldman has narrated all eleven seasons of the series. Between 2001 and 2005 it was also shown in New Zealand on TV2 and Prime. The show returned to New Zealand, as part of the TV3 summer line-up in November, 2013. Series 10 ended in March 2014. Series 11 begins airing in New Zealand on 3 November 2014. Big Brother Australia joins The Block as reality shows screened across partnering networks Channel Nine in Australia and TV3 in New Zealand. The purpose built Big Brother house has been located in a compound at theme park Dreamworld, Queensland, for its entire run.

Gold Coast Airport

Gold Coast Airport (formerly known as Coolangatta Airport) (IATA: OOL, ICAO: YBCG) is an international Australian airport located at the southern end of the Gold Coast, 25 km (16 mi) south of Surfers Paradise and approximately 100 km (62 mi) south of Brisbane. The entrance to the airport is situated in the suburb of Bilinga near Coolangatta. The runway itself straddles the state border of Queensland and New South Wales. During summer these states are in two different time zones. The Gold Coast Airport operates on Queensland Time all year round (year-round AEST / UTC+10). For the 2015–16 financial year, Gold Coast Airport exceeded 6 million passengers. It is the sixth-busiest airport in Australia, and the busiest outside a state capital, in terms of passengers, and eighth-busiest in aircraft movements. It is also the third-fastest-growing airport in the country.
