Raghadan Flagpole

The Raghadan Flagpole is a 126.8-metre tall flagpole located in Amman, Jordan. It was built from steel and erected on the grounds of Raghadan Palace at the royal compound of Al-Maquar. The leader of Jordan, King Abdullah II, officially hoisted the countrys flag on 10 June 2003. It was the tallest free-standing flagpole in the world at the time, and is clearly visible across the capital as well as from as far away as 20 kilometres . It is illuminated, making it visible at night, and was also developed to withstand earthquakes and bad weather. It flies a 60-by-30-metre flag. Although it is a distinctive landmark, the excessive noise created during high winds has resulted in the flag being lowered during periods of bad weather. This free-standing flagpole surpassed the previous record-holder, which was located in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and had held the record since 2001. The Raghadan Flagpole is 3.8 metres taller than the one located in the United Arab Emirates. In 2004, the flagpole lost its status as worlds tallest following the construction of the Aqaba Flagpole. The latter stands at 130 metres tall, and is also located in Jordan. As of 2011, Raghadan is the fifth-tallest free-standing flagpole in the world. The tallest flagpole is the 165-metre Dushanbe Flagpole in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, constructed in 2011. All three flagpoles were constructed in the Dubai port of Jebel Ali by the United States-based company Trident Support in sections 12 metres long from 50 millimetres thick steel plates.

Amman Citadel

The Amman Citadel is a national historic site at the center of downtown Amman, Jordan. Known in Arabic as Jabal al-Qala,, the L-shaped hill is one of the seven jabals that originally made up Amman. Evidence of occupation since the pottery Neolithic period has been found, making it among the worlds oldest continuously inhabited places. The Citadel is considered an important site because it has had a long history of occupation by many great civilizations. Most of the buildings still visible at the site are from the Roman, Byzantine, and Umayyad periods. The major buildings at the site are the Temple of Hercules, a Byzantine church, and the Umayyad Palace. Though the fortification walls enclose the heart of the site, the ancient periods of occupation covered large areas. Historic structures, tombs, arches, walls and stairs have no modern borders, and therefore there is considerable archaeological potential at this site, as well as in surrounding lands, and throughout Amman. Archaeologists have been working at the site since the 1920s, including Italian, British, French, Spanish, and Jordanian projects, but a great part of the Citadel remains unexcavated.

King Hussein Cancer Center

The King Hussein Cancer Centeris a medical center in Amman, Jordan. It treats both adult and pediatric patients. KHCC treats over 3500 new cancer patients every year from Jordan and the region. KHCC has established programs that focus on all stages of comprehensive cancer care: from prevention and early detection, through diagnosis and treatment, to palliative care. The King Hussein Cancer Foundation, founded in 1997, undertakes various fundraising activities to support and maintain the mission of KHCC as a comprehensive cancer center of excellence. KHCF is a free-standing, independent, non-governmental, nonprofit organization established by a royal decree to combat cancer in Jordan and the Middle East region. The foundation and center is run by a board of trustees consisting of a dedicated group of prominent volunteers and chaired by HRH Princess Ghida Talal. The director general of KHCF is HRH Princess Dina Mired and Dr. Asem Mansour is the director general of KHCC.

Princess Sumaya University for Technology

Princess Sumaya University for Technology, established in 1991, is a specialized, Non-governmental, Non-profit, Jordanian university, owned by the leading applied research centre in Jordan, the Royal Scientific Society . PSUT’s area of specialization is IT, Communications and Electronics. As a nonprofit institution, PSUT embraces both the public and private sectors, but while akin to public universities in its mission, it is more aligned to the private sector in drive and spirit. PSUT is located in Amman, Jordan, offering an array of ICT related courses. It currently offers B.Sc. degrees in Computer Science, Computer Graphics and Animation, Software Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Communication Engineering, Energy and Electrical Power Engineering, Management Information Systems, Administration of business and Accounting. The university campus underwent major renovation and expansion in late 2004. Labs were upgraded with new equipment and computers. The university library got expanded, and a new collection of IT related books was added. The university has a Sun Microsystems lab, mainly used in Java courses, and Unix courses on Sun SPARC based machines. Also, PSUT has a Rubicon Lab, This Lab used for teaching animation and video game development courses, this lab was established by partnership with Rubicon Group Holding Company for the animation industry and video games. An Oracle incubator lab was also recently established in the campus, with the goal of familiarizing students with Oracle technologies, and remove the stereo-typical view of Oracle as only being a Database company. PSUT has recently established a regional enterepreneurship center, named: Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship, to help in fostering talent and transforming knowledge in Jordan and the region into a socio-economic impact.

Abdoun

Abdoun is a residential area of Amman, Jordan. Abdoun is considered by many to be the most affluent district of the city, and is located towards the south of the city. Some of Jordans most expensive real estate is located in the district. Abdoun is one of Ammans centres for nightlife. There are several mostly high-end nightclubs located in Abdoun which are frequented by both local residents of Amman and tourists alike. Abdoun Circle is surrounded by numerous restaurants, cafés and stalls, and is a popular spot among Ammans youth. Abdoun Mall, the first mall to open in Amman at the time of its opening, is also located in the district. Abdoun is neighbored by the districts of Deir Ghbar, Sweifieh, Ras Al Ain, and Jabal Amman. The Abdoun Bridge connects the 4th Circle in Jabal Amman to the Abdoun Circle and a highway continues through Abdoun and into south Amman.
