Mosman Park

Mosman Park is a western suburb of Perth, Western Australia on the north bank of the Swan River in the local government area of the Town of Mosman Park. It was historically known as Buckland Hill , then Cottesloe Beach and again Buckland Hill . From 1937 it was named Mosman Park, derived from Mosman in Sydney, the birthplace of Richard Yeldon, a member of the Buckland Hill Road Board. Mosman Park is now considered an affluent suburb, but prior to the 1970s was one of Perth's major industrial centres. In 2010 the Australian Bureau of Statistics announced that Mosman Park had the second highest average value for private sector houses in 2008-09, at $1.579 million, ahead of Mosman in Sydney, which had the highest average value houses in New South Wales at $1.373 million.

City Beach

City Beach is a beachside suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the Town of Cambridge. Its postcode is 6015. The term "City Beach" is also a specific beach located within the suburb of the same name. All of the homes located in City Beach are expensive, modern, and contemporary. Sale price for homes are generally over 1,000,000 dollars, with the majority being between 1,500,000 to 3,000,000 dollars. City Beach consists of three sections: a northern section, a central section and a southern section . The northern part was built immediately prior to the 1962 Commonwealth Games as an athletes village due to its proximity to Perry Lakes Stadium in neighbouring Floreat.

Adventure World

Adventure World is a theme park in Perth, Western Australia. It is located in Bibra Lake, 20 km from the CBD. The park opened on 11 November 1982 as "Edgley’s Adventure World" and undergoes a winter closure each year. Michael Edgley International created and ran the park from its inception to December 1990. 380,000 tonnes of sand were used to reshape the land contours of the industrial dump site into a suitable theme park location. Since 1999, Omni Leisure Operations has been managing the park. In 1999 LeisureWide Property Trust did not act on their option to buy Adventure World and since 2000 a West Australian, Steve Sicerich, has owned the park.

Northbridge

Perth Zoo

The Perth Zoo is a 41-acre zoo that opened in 1898 in South Perth, Western Australia. As of January 2011, it is home to 1258 animals of 164 species and includes an extensive botanical collection. In 2010/11, the zoo had a paid staff of about 248, plus about 300 volunteer docents. It is a full institutional member of the Zoo and Aquarium Association and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums .

WACA Ground

The WACA Ground is a sports stadium in Perth, Western Australia. The stadiums name derives from the initials of its owners and operators, the Western Australian Cricket Association. The WACA has been Western Australias "home of cricket" since the early 1890s, with Test cricket played at the ground since the 1970–71 season. The ground is the home venue of Western Australias first-class cricket team, the Western Warriors, and a Womens National Cricket League side, the Western Fury. The Perth Scorchers, a Big Bash League franchise, also plays at the ground, which is branded #TheFurnace for those matches. The pitch at the WACA is regarded as one of the quickest and bounciest in the world. These characteristics, in combination with the afternoon sea-breezes which regularly pass the ground, have historically made the ground an attractive place for pace and swing bowlers. The outfield is exceptionally fast, contributing to the ground seeing some very fast scoring – as of December 2014, four of the eight fastest Test centuries have been scored at the WACA. Throughout its history, the ground has also been used for a range of other sports, including athletics carnivals, Australian rules football, baseball, soccer, rugby league, rugby union, and international rules football. However, recent years have seen most of these activities relocated to other venues. It has also been used for major rock concerts.

St Mary's Cathedral

St Marys Cathedral, Perth, officially the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Perth, and seat of its Archbishop, currently Timothy Costelloe. The cathedral is at the centre of Victoria Square, on the northern end of Victoria Avenue, Perth, Western Australia. The cathedral as it now stands was constructed in three main phases, with the first phase completed in 1865. Plans were drawn up for the replacement of the cathedral in the 1920s with a larger Perpendicular Gothic edifice. However, construction was interrupted by the onset of the Great Depression, leaving a new transept and sanctuary, with the aisle of the original cathedral as its nave. After 70 years incomplete, and portions of the cathedral requiring extensive repair work, funds were eventually raised in the late 1990s and early 2000s for the completion of the expansion. A new curved design for the expansion was created, and featured a second spire and underground parish centre. The cathedral closed for construction in 2006, and reopened in December 2009.

Dingo Flour sign

The Dingo Flour sign is a well-known landmark of a stylised silhouetted dingo in red on the side of an historic and heritage-listed working flour mill in North Fremantle, Perth, Western Australia. The mill is in a complex known as the Great Southern Roller Flour Mills Limited. On the site are silos, an office and laboratory and other buildings. The Heritage Council of Western Australia says: “…the place has a landmark quality with strong vertical proportions, height and massing of the mill and silo structures, the Dingo Flour brand image, and the Norfolk Island Pine; the place has been commonly referred to as ‘Dingo Flour Mill’ for many years, showing the impact of the symbol, and has developed its own set of myths, including that it was painted by Alan Bond, demonstrating that the ‘dingo’ contributes to the community’s sense of place…” The mill was designed by architect J.F. Allen, of Allen and Nicholas, and the office building was designed by Powell, Cameron & Chisholm Architects. The sign and the rest of the site was heritage-listed in 2008. The dingo logo was painted by artist Les Nash in 1940 for £40. It is about four storeys high. It was painted over during World War II, but its outlines were still faintly visible. Refugees and migrants coming to Fremantle saw the sign, and it remains a useful reference point for boaters and anglers. It was most recently re-painted in March 2001. In 2010 the flour mill was renovated, and the dingo now gets re-painted every month.

Canning Contour Channel

The Canning Contour Channel is a 16 kilometres series of man-made concrete channels and steel and cast-iron pipelines in the Darling Scarp in Western Australia constructed between July 1935 and December 1936. The project was a Depression era public works scheme to carry potable water from just below Canning Dam through the hills around and above Roleystone and Kelmscott to a screening, fluoridation and pumping station near Gosnells by following the natural contours of the Canning Valley—hence it was entirely gravity-fed. Where a tributary valley needed to be crossed, suspended or siphoning pipelines were used. From Gosnells, the water entered the city's pipeline distribution system. The channel supplied drinking water to the metropolitan area of Perth from 1940 to 1975 before becoming redundant after the construction of the Canning Tunnel in the mid-1970s. Until the construction of Serpentine Dam in 1961, Canning Dam and the channel were the main sources of water supply for Perth. Large sections of the disused channel and associated infrastructure remain and provide useful bush-walking routes. In 1950 a section of the channel collapsed at Araluen, causing severe water restrictions in Perth for several weeks.

Lesmurdie Falls

The Mundy Regional Park is a regional park located on the western edge of the Darling Scarp, approximately 22 kilometres east of Perth in Western Australia. The 56-hectare park has commanding views of the Swan Coastal Plain, the city of Perth and surrounding suburbs.

Cohunu Koala Park

Cohunu Koala Park is a wildlife sanctuary on 14 ha of bushland at Byford, near Perth, Western Australia. It features not only koalas, but also dingoes, kangaroos, emus, wallabies, eagles, wombats, echidnas, black swans, cockatoos, and lifelike replicas of dinosaurs. The park and its koala colony were established in 1982 at Mills Park Road in Gosnells, with four koalas from South Australia. In 2005, the park was moved to Nettleton Road, Byford. Its koala colony now has over 25 koalas. Between 10 am and 4 pm daily, visitors to the park may be photographed cuddling a koala, at an additional charge. Visitors are also permitted to touch and hand feed various other park animals. A miniature railway built by volunteers runs around the park; it operates on most weekends and public holidays.

Greenmount National Park

Greenmount National Park is a national park in the locality of Greenmount Western Australia, 22 km east of Perth. It is one of the smaller National Parks along the Darling Scarp and is a component of the Darling Range Regional Park. Due to its proximity to John Forrest National Park, which used to be known as Greenmount National Park until 1928, and relationship to subsequent reserves to the south it is a vital scarp wildlife corridor. Bus tours were available from Perth in 1933 with the Hills Bus Tours offering passengers a tour around the park on Sundays in September. Beam Transport Ltd. offered a similar service through the Park to Mundaring Weir in 1937. As a feature adjacent to the Helena River Valley it has significance in aboriginal folklore, and also featured very early on in early European settlers diaries. Mountain Quarry, Western Australia is one of several blue stone quarries located within the park, popular with rock climbers and walkers. Vehicle access to the quarry site is restricted however a car-park and picnic facilities including toilets are within walking distance of the main site which is completely accessible on foot. There are several panels containing historical information about the site spread around as part of the popular Railway Reserves Heritage Trail which runs close to the quarry. The Boya/Koongamia leg of the Railway Reserves Heritage Trail, also known as the Bridle Trail, curves around the south-western edge of the park, crossing through the Mountain Quarry car-park and picnic area. In the early 2000s significant bushfire damage occurred on the southern slopes of this park. Large fire-breaks dissect the park serving as popular walking routes among locals. The western and northern slopes, visible from Great Eastern Highway have extensive watsonia infestations. In late 2005, the Government Authority in charge of the national park was taking steps to prevent vehicular access along the top of the ridge to the lookout due to non stop vandalism and issues with residents adjacent to the park. The park is situated along the side of Greenmount Hill and has majestic views over the Swan Coastal Plain below and Perth City below. The dominant vegetation in the park is eucalypts such as Marri and Wandoo along with an array of wild flowers and heathland along the northern slopes. The hill is steep and contain several breakaways and rocky outcrops.

Scitech

Scitech is a not-for-profit organisation that operates the Scitech Discovery Centre, a permanent interactive science museum which includes a planetarium, and is located in West Perth, Western Australia. It first opened in 1988 on 13 August. Its published mission is, Scitech generally aims its programs at children aged up to 12, but it does provide activities for children and adults of all ages. A few times a year it also runs "Scitech After Dark" evenings to allow over 18 year olds to enjoy its attractions in an adult-oriented atmosphere.

Australia II

Australia II is an Australian 12-metre-class Americas Cup challenge racing yacht that was launched in 1982 and won the 1983 Americas Cup for the Royal Perth Yacht Club. Skippered by John Bertrand, she was the first successful Cup challenger, ending a 132-year tenure by the New York Yacht Club.

The Art Gallery of Western Australia is a public gallery that is part of the Perth Cultural Centre, in Perth, Western Australia. It is located near the Western Australian Museum and State Library of Western Australia. The current gallery opened in 1979. The States art collection consists of over 15,500 works of art, and the Art Gallery is visited by approximately 400,000 people annually.

East Fremantle Football Club Hall of Fame

The East Fremantle Football Club Hall of Fame was launched on 2 July 2012 when 52 inductees were celebrated during a dinner at the East Fremantle Football Club Social Hall. Despite being the most successful team in the West Australian Football League, the East Fremantle Football Club had never had a Hall of Fame, the closest being the 1997 Team of the Century, created to celebrate the clubs 100th year.

Kings Park

Kings Park is a 4.06-square-kilometre park located on the western edge of the central business district in Perth, Western Australia, Australia. The park is a mixture of grassed parkland, botanical gardens and natural bushland on Mount Eliza with two thirds of the grounds conserved as native bushland. With panoramic views of the Swan River and Darling Range, it is home to over 324 native plant varieties, 215 known indigenous fungi species and 80 bird species. It overlooks the city as well as Perth Water and Melville Water on the Swan River. It is one of the largest inner city parks in the world and the most popular visitor destination in Western Australia, being visited by over five million people each year. The park is larger than New Yorks Central Park which is 3.41 km². Besides tourist facilities Kings Park contains the State War Memorial, the Royal Kings Park Tennis club and a reservoir. The streets are tree lined with individual plaques dedicated by family members to Western Australian service men and women who died in World War I and World War II. During September of each year Kings Park hosts Australias largest wildflower show and exhibition – the Kings Park Festival.

Araluen Botanic Park

Araluen Botanical Park is located in a sheltered valley in the Darling Ranges approximately 30 kilometres south of Perth, Western Australia, in the suburb of Roleystone. The Botanical Park covers an area of about 59 hectares . There is a small entry fee to the park, and it is open every day of the year. There is a mixture of exotic plant varieties, however the park also contains many remnants of native bush.

Perth Cultural Centre

The Perth Cultural Centre is an area of central Perth, Western Australia centred on the James Street Mall. The area is home to a number of cultural institutions including the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Western Australian Museum, State Library of Western Australia, State Records Office, State Theatre Centre of Western Australia, and Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts . The Perth Cultural Centre Precinct is bound by Roe Street, Aberdeen Street, Beaufort Street and William Street in the suburb of Perth. A walkway connects the Cultural Centre to Perth railway station.

Ascot Racecourse

Ascot Racecourse is the major racecourse in Perth, Western Australia, situated approximately 8 kilometres east of the Perth central business district, with the headquarters of the Perth Racing positioned directly opposite. It is regarded as the 'grand old lady' of Australian racecourses. Featuring a 2 km track with modern, well drained turf, and a 300-metre inclining straight regarded by experts as the most severe test of stayers in Australia.

Gloucester Park

Gloucester Park is a harness racing course in Perth, Western Australia. In the suburb of East Perth, the oval course is adjacent to the WACA Ground. The track is lit, and Friday night pacing events are popular. As of 2006 the Western Australian Trotting Association have used Gloucester Park for more than 70 years, starting with the first Inter Dominion Championship held in February 1936. Gloucester Park has also been used for Telstra Rally Australia. Between 1977 and 1979 Gloucester Park was used as a venue for World Series Cricket matches.

Berndt Museum of Anthropology

The Berndt Museum of Anthropology is an anthropological museum in Perth, Western Australia, founded in 1976 by Ronald Berndt and Catherine Berndt. The museum was established to house the extensive collections accumulated by the Berndts during their lifelong careers as anthropologists. Although initially called the Anthropology Research Museum, it was renamed in 1992 in honour of the museum’s founders and principal benefactors. It is located on the grounds at the University of Western Australia, Crawley Campus. It has also received support from various bequests Housing over 11,500 objects and 32,000 photographs, the museum contains one of the finest collections of Indigenous Australian art and cultural artifacts in the world, according to the Collections Australia Network .The collection consists of contemporary and historical Aboriginal Australian material culture from regions such as Arnhem Land, the Kimberley, Pilbara, the South West and the Western Desert. The museum also houses substantial Asian and Papua New Guinean collections. The Berndt Museum is planned to be incorporated in a purpose-built structure, the Aboriginal Cultures Museum, which has been designed and is awaiting funding.

St George's Cathedral

St Georges Cathedral is the principal Anglican church in the city of Perth, Western Australia and the mother-church of the Anglican Diocese of Perth. It is located on St Georges Terrace in the centre of the city.

The Serpentine National Park is a national park located on the Darling Scarp, approximately 55 kilometres southeast of Perth in Western Australia in Australia.

Gooseberry Hill National Park

Gooseberry Hill National Park is a national park in Western Australia, in the locality of Gooseberry Hill, Western Australia 21 km east of Perth. It is at the southern side of the mouth of the Helena Valley on the Darling Scarp. Stathams Quarry is located within the park boundary. The park was named after a hill in Yorkshire by the early settlers. A walking track and the single lane bitumen zig zag drive are both found within the park. The zig zag drive follows the old zig zag railway track which winds up the steep terrain, offering excellent views of the Swan Coastal Plain below. No entry fees apply to enter the park but no facilities are available to visitors.

John Forrest National Park

John Forrest National Park is a national park in the Darling Scarp, 24 km east of Perth, Western Australia. It was the first national park in Western Australia and the second in Australia after Royal National Park.

Neerabup National Park

Neerabup National Park is a national park in the City of Wanneroo in Western Australia, situated approximately 27 kilometres north of Perth. The park is found to the west of Wanneroo Road and is a long thin strip of bushland that is about 12 km in length. It contains no car parks and roads or any other facilities and attracts no entrance fee. The area follows an ancient Indigenous Australian migration route between Lake Joondalup and Loch McNess . This later became are well used stock route and then part of the Yaberoo Budjara Heritage Trail. The walk trail is based on the Yellalonga tribes movements between the lakes and highlights features of historical, aboriginal and natural significance. The park lies within the Northern Swan Coastal Plain Important Bird Area, so identified by BirdLife International because of its importance in supporting several thousand Short-billed Black Cockatoos during the non-breeding season.
