Walt Disney World

The Walt Disney World Resort, informally known as Walt Disney World or simply Disney World or shortly WDW, is an entertainment complex in Bay Lake, Florida, near Kissimmee, Florida and is the flagship of Disneys worldwide theme park empire. The resort opened on October 1, 1971 and is the most visited vacation resort in the world, with an attendance of over 52 million annually. Disney World is owned and operated by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, a division of The Walt Disney Company. The property covers 27,258 acres, in which it houses 27 themed resort hotels, 9 non–Disney hotels, four theme parks, two water parks, four golf courses, one nine-hole walking golf course for young golfers, two themed miniature golf courses, one camping resort, one downtown like shopping area, and other entertainment venues. Magic Kingdom was the first and original theme park to open in the complex followed by Epcot, Disneys Hollywood Studios, and Disneys Animal Kingdom, which opened later throughout the 1980s and 1990s. In 2014 Disney Worlds 4 theme parks all ranked in the top 8 on the list of the 25 most visited theme parks in the world; Magic Kingdom 19,332,000 visitors, Epcot 11,454,000 visitors, Disneys Animal Kingdom 10,402,000 visitors, and Disneys Hollywood Studios 10,312,000 visitors. Designed to supplement Disneyland in Anaheim, California, which had opened in 1955, the complex was developed by Walt Disney in the 1960s. "The Florida Project", as he called it, was originally to be built in hopes of differential in design and scheme from Disneyland with its own diverse set of rides. Walt Disneys original plans also called for the inclusion of an "Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow", a planned community that would serve as a test bed for new innovations for city living. After extensive lobbying, the Government of Florida created the Reedy Creek Improvement District, a special government district that essentially gave The Walt Disney Company the standard powers and autonomy of an incorporated city. However, Disney died on December 15, 1966, before construction began. Without the mind of Disney spearheading the construction of Walt Disney World, the Disney Company instead created the resort very similar to Disneyland, just on a much larger scale, along with abandoning his concept of an experimental planned community. Coincidentally, Disneyland is in Orange County in California and Walt Disney World is in Orange County in Florida.

Disney's Animal Kingdom

Disney's Animal Kingdom is the fourth of four theme parks built at the Walt Disney World Resort in Bay Lake, Florida, southwest of Orlando. It was dedicated and opened to the public on Earth Day, April 22, 1998. It is the second largest theme park in the world, behind Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey, and it is the largest Disney theme park in the world, covering 500 acres , It holds the distinction of being the first Disney park to be themed entirely around animal conservation, a philosophy once pioneered by Walt Disney himself. Disney's Animal Kingdom is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums, meaning they have met or exceeded the standards in education, conservation, and research. In 2014, the park hosted approximately 10.4 million guests, ranking it the fourth-most visited amusement park in the United States and seventh-most visited in the world. The park is represented by The Tree of Life, a sculpted 145-foot-tall , 50-foot-wide artificial tree.

Epcot

Epcot is the second of four theme parks built at Walt Disney World in Bay Lake, Florida, near the city of Orlando. It opened as EPCOT Center on October 1, 1982, and spans 300 acres , more than twice the size of the Magic Kingdom park. It is dedicated to the celebration of human achievement, namely technological innovation and international culture, and is often referred to as a "permanent World's Fair." In 2014, the park hosted approximately 11.45 million guests, ranking it the third most visited theme park in North America and the sixth most visited theme park in the world. The park is represented by Spaceship Earth, a geodesic sphere that also serves as an attraction. Epcot was known as EPCOT Center until 1994, when it was later renamed Epcot '94, then Epcot '95, now commonly known simply as Epcot.

Disney's Blizzard Beach

Blizzard Beach is a water theme park located at the Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, Florida, near Orlando, Florida. All water areas are heated, with the exception of the melting snow in the ice cave of Cross Country Creek. The park opened on April 1, 1995 and was the third Walt Disney World water park. In 2014, the park hosted approximately 2,007,000 guests, ranking it the third-most visited water park in the world, behind its sister park, Typhoon Lagoon. The majority of the major attractions at the park are hosted atop of Mount Gushmore, an artificial hill with an elevation of 90 feet . Mount Gushmore is split into three colored slopes to aid guests navigating around the park: Green, Red and Purple. Blizzard Beach is open for nine months from March 15 to January 3. From January 4 to March 14, the park closes for annual refurbishments. During the closure, Typhoon Lagoon remains open.

Disney's Typhoon Lagoon

Typhoon Lagoon is a water theme park located at the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, near Orlando, Florida and is the second water park at Walt Disney World. The park, which opened on June 1, 1989, is home to one of the worlds largest outdoor wave pools. The theme of the park is the "Disney legend" of a typhoon that wreaked havoc upon a formerly pristine tropical paradise. Ships, fishing gear and surfboards are strewn about where the storm flung them. The centerpiece of the park is "Miss Tilly," a shrimp boat impaled upon a mountain named "Mount Mayday" that erupts a 50-foot geyser of water every half hour, right before the bells of the watch sound on Miss Tilly. Typhoon Lagoons mascot is “Lagoona Gator,” and he is related to Blizzard Beachs mascot Ice Gator. In 2014, Typhoon Lagoon admitted approximately 2,185,000 visitors, currently making it the second most visited water park in the world. Typhoon Lagoon is open for nine months from January 4 to October 24. From October 25 to January 3, the park closes for annual refurbishments. During its closure Blizzard Beach remains open. Of the major parks at Disney World, Typhoon Lagoon is the only one that lies within the city limits of Lake Buena Vista. Blizzard Beach and the four theme parks are within the adjacent city of Bay Lake. However, Lake Buena Vista is the mailing address for the entire Walt Disney World Resort.

Gatorland

Gatorland is a 110-acre theme park and wildlife preserve located along South Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando, Florida. It was founded by Owen Godwin in 1949 and has been privately owned by his family since then. Billed as the "Alligator Capital of the World," Gatorland features thousands of alligators and crocodiles, a breeding marsh with boardwalk and observation tower, reptile shows, aviary, petting zoo, swamp walk and educational programs. The park is known for buying and rescuing nuisance alligators from trappers that would otherwise be killed for their meat and skin. The Breeding Marsh area of the park was used in the filming of the 1984 movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. The operation also has an active road show providing alligator wrestling, pythons, lizards and other animals with an informative animal talk for private parties and benefits. In addition, Gatorland manages the live alligator display at the Gaylord Palms resort in Kissimmee, Florida. The park is also known for its leucistic alligators.

Crawlerway

The Crawlerway is a 130-foot wide double pathway at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. It runs between the Vehicle Assembly Building and the two launch pads at Launch Complex 39. It has a length of 3.5 miles to Pad 39A and 4.2 miles to Pad 39B. A seven-foot bed of stones lies beneath a layer of asphalt and a surface made of Tennessee river rocks. The Crawlerway was designed to support the weight of a Saturn V rocket and payload, plus its Launch Umbilical Tower and Mobile Launch Platform, atop a Crawler-transporter during the Apollo Program. It was used from 1981–2011 to transport the lighter Space Shuttles to their launch pads. Construction of the Crawlerway connected Merritt Island with the mainland, forming a peninsula. The main vehicle access road to and from the launch pads, the Saturn Causeway, runs alongside the crawlerway.

Volcano Bay

Universal's Volcano Bay Water Theme Park, or Volcano Bay, is a themed water park at Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando, Florida. Owned and operated by Universal Parks and Resorts, Volcano Bay replaced Wet 'n Wild as Universal Orlando Resort's water park, and it was the first constructed by Universal itself. The park, themed around a 200-foot-tall (61 m) volcano named "Krakatau," opened on May 25, 2017. Krakatau is a 200 feet (61 m) tall artificial volcano, the park's main representative and is displayed on the logo. The volcano houses three drop slides, Ko'okiri Body Plunge, the world's tallest body slide in America ranging at 125 feet tall, and also the first to travel through a pool full of guests. Krakatau also holds the Kala & Ta Nui Serpentine Body Slides which travel throughout the midst of the volcano winding around the Krakatau Aqua Coaster. The park utilizes the TapuTapu experience. TapuTapu is a wristband wearable distributed at the entrance at the park, which can be used to hold your place in line instead of standing in long queues for the attractions. TapuTapu comes with other features including TapTuPay, which will connect to your credit card through the Official Universal Orlando Resort™ App and will be used to pay for drinks and merchandise from the parks. TapTuPlay is a feature where you tap on a TapuTapu point and interactive with the environmental features around them, set off water spring or illuminate lights. Unfortunately you cannot keep the TapuTapu's from exit of the park and have to return them

Hogwarts Express

The Hogwarts Express is an 1,800 mm broad gauge funicular railway people mover and attraction within the Universal Orlando Resort in Florida, United States. The route runs 676 metres between Hogsmeade station in the Islands of Adventure theme park and King's Cross station in the London area of the Universal Studios Florida theme park. The attraction, which was manufactured by the Doppelmayr Garaventa Group, is operated with two replicas of the Hogwarts Express. It provides a connection between the Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade areas which together form The Wizarding World of Harry Potter themed area, based on the Harry Potter film series. The two directions of travel provide two different experiences. Because the trains transport guests between stations in two separate theme parks, riders must have an admission pass valid for both theme parks, with ticket inspectors checking prior to boarding. The Hogwarts Express soft-opened to the public on 1 July 2014 before officially opening seven days later along with the rest of the Diagon Alley expansion on 8 July 2014. Within one month of its opening, one million riders had travelled on the trains.

Amway Center

The Amway Center is a sports and entertainment venue in Orlando, Florida, located in the Downtown area. It is part of Downtown Orlando Master Plan 3: a plan that also involves improvements to the Citrus Bowl and a new performing arts center. The arena is home to the Orlando Magic of the NBA, the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL, and hosted the 2012 NBA All-Star Game, plus the 2015 ECHL All-Star Game. Amway Center hosted the second and third round games of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament in 2014. On January 14, 2013, the Arena Football Leagues Board of Directors voted to award ArenaBowl XXVI to Orlando in the summer of 2013. On September 4, 2013, the Orlando Predators were informed that they had defaulted on their lease for failing to meet attendance requirements, forcing the team out of the arena. On April 19, 2014, the venue hosted the UFC on Fox: Werdum vs. Browne mixed martial arts fight.

Orlando Museum of Art

The Orlando Museum of Art (OMA) is a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit organization directly serving greater Orlando, Orange County and Central Florida. The museum was founded in 1924 by a group of art enthusiasts. The museum's mission is to inspire creativity, passion and intellectual curiosity by connecting people with art and new ideas. Glen Gentele is the museum's director. OMA presents a rotating series of temporary exhibitions originated by the museum matched by travelling shows that are complemented by permanent collection exhibitions and continuous education programs for people of all ages. OMA hosts year-round workshops, art appreciation classes, lectures, seminars, films and guided tours for children and adults. In 2014, the museum launched the exhibition initiative titled The Florida Prize in Contemporary Art which features work produced by the most progressive and thought-provoking emerging and mid-career artists living and working in the State of Florida today. OMA is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) and is a member of the North American Reciprocal Museums program. The history of the Orlando Museum of Art (OMA) is one of growth guided by community leadership. OMA was founded in 1924 as Orlando Art Association. Its name was changed to the Loch Haven Art Center in 1960, and again to the Orlando Museum of Art in 1986. The organization began as a small art center with a group of artists who met informally in the early 1920s, displaying and critiquing their work. In the late 1950s, the community raised funds to build a new facility designed by James Gamble Rogers III, which was completed in 1960. OMA began to collect art in 1960 when it accepted the donations of important American paintings by Georgia O'Keeffe and Charles Sheeler. OMA continued its expansion, working with architects Nils Schweizer and Duane Stark, both students of Frank Lloyd Wright. By 1969 OMA had added new galleries, a 250-seat auditorium, three studio classrooms, a library, vault and offices. During the 1970s, OMA was given a major collection of Art of the Ancient Americas, and additional works of African Art, and also formed the nucleus of its acclaimed Contemporary American Graphics Collection. In 1985, OMA was designated a "major cultural institution" by the State of Florida. In the 1997, OMA completed a $13.5 million facility renovation and building project which expanded the facility to its current size of 80,000 square feet. OMA's collection boasts more than 2,400 objects including Contemporary Art, American Art from the 18th century to 1945, Art of the Ancient Americas and African Art. The Art of the Ancient Americas collection is among the finest of its kind in the Southeastern United States.On May 1, 2018, OMA announced that it may become the permanent home of an extensive collection of the paintings of Belgian Post-Impressionist painter, Louis Dewis. OMA planned a small exhibition of seven Dewis paintings from May 18 through September 9, 2018, as a preview of a major Dewis exhibition to be presented January 25 through April 21, 2019.

B-52 Memorial Park

B-52 Memorial Park is located within the Orlando International Airport just off the Beachline Expressway formerly the Bee Line near runway 18L. It is a small, relatively hidden park under the control of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority and features a retired B-52D Stratofortress, Air Force Serial Number 56-0687, from the Strategic Air Command. The aircraft was at one time assigned to the 306th Bomb Wing of the now defunct McCoy Air Force Base. The bomber was built in 1956 and retired 28 years later in 1984. Final flight was from its last unit of assignment, the 7th Bomb Wing at Carswell AFB in Ft. Worth Texas, to the former McCoy AFB, now Orlando International Airport, on February 20, 1984. The park is located on Bear Road, accessible from Tradeport Drive just south of Beachline/SR 528 Exit 4, around the corner from where the old Orlando Jetport terminal, the predecessor to the current Orlando International Airport terminal, used to stand. The park is open from 9:00am to sunset, and is free of charge to visit.
