Witch's Dungeon Classic Movie Museum

The Witchs Dungeon Classic Movie Museum in Bristol, Connecticut is a collection of figures of classic movie monsters. The museum is owned by Bristol-native Cortlandt Hull. Cortlandt is the great nephew of film actor Henry Hull. In 1966, Cortlandts father helped him build the Swiss chalet-style building to house the museum. Cortlandt built life-size figures of classic movie monsters that were made of wax, fine wire mesh, papier-mache and polymers. The figures were later replaced with more accurate ones. The museum is only open on weekend evenings during the month of October. The new location for "The Witchs Dungeon Classic Movie Museum" is in the 1890 building of "The Bristol Historical Society" on 98 Summer Street in Bristol, CT. The heads of many of the figurines have been based on life-casts of the actual actors who portrayed them. Background sets and clothing are authentic to the era, with some costumes or props actually used in the original films. Characters represented in the museum are: Frankensteins Monster Erik, The Phantom Of The Opera Zenobia, The Gypsy Witch The Abominable Dr. Phibes The Creature from the Black Lagoon Count Dracula The Mole People Kharis, The Mummy Professor Henry Jarrod, from "House Of Wax" The Fly Hedison) The Wolf Man Nosferatu, Count Orlock The Masque of the Red Death, from "The Phantom of the Opera" A recent addition to the museum was a figurine of Dr. Wilfred Glendon, The Werewolf of London .

American Clock & Watch Museum

The American Clock & Watch Museum , located in Bristol, Connecticut, is one of a very few museums in the United States dedicated solely to horology, which is the history, science and art of timekeeping and timekeepers. Located in the heart of the historic center of American clockmaking, ACWM is the world's preeminent horological museum in the area of American clocks, primarily industrial-made clocks of the 19th and early 20th century. The museum is located in a complex including the historic Miles Lewis residence, the partially relocated historic 1728 Barnes homestead, and a modern extension wing in the town of Bristol, Connecticut, the hometown of the former Ingraham Clock Company. Bristol is located north of Interstate Highway 84, about 30 minutes west of Hartford CT or two hours from New York City. The ACWM is an independent educational institution, operating under Section 501c3 of the Internal Revenue Code, and besides a small professional staff relies on volunteers for much of its manpower and support. Originally known as The Bristol Clock Museum, the institution was started in 1952 and acquired its site the next year.

Poughkeepsie Trust Company

The Poughkeepsie Trust Company building is located on Main Street in that city in the U.S. state of New York. It is immediately to the east of, and joined to, the Dutchess County Court House. Local architect Percival Lloyd designed the building, the bank's second on that site, as the Hudson Valley's first modern skyscraper at six stories in height. It cost $100,000 to build and included an ornately-carved stone facade. Brick, steel and stone were used in the interior framing. Inside, the ground floor was the site of a Mycenaean marble banking room, with intact mahogany furniture, brass fittings and bronze lighting. A special "ladies' corridor" was built near the women's restroom so that women could go to and back from it without having to use the main corridor. The upper floors were reached by means of an elevator, then another pioneering piece of technology. The three-bay Beaux Arts facade begins at the top with masks on the cornice and molded egg-and-dart rear modillion blocks. It gives way to a leafy swag motif above the molded frieze. Similar patterns continue down the stories, joined by quoined pilasters. The ground level is totally quoined and projects, with an intricate wrought-iron gate on the main door and decorative Doric columns. On the sides, a red-and-yellow brick diamond pattern runs from front to rear at the fifth story. It opened in 1906. The New York City Water Supply Commission, then looking in the region for future supplies for the growing city, was an early tenant. It rented the entire fifth floor and half the fourth, ultimately planning and supervising the land acquisition and construction for what became the Catskill Aqueduct from the bank building. The bank would eventually leave the building and become part of the Bank of New York. The county took it over, joining it to the adjacent courthouse, built a few years earlier. In 1982 the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places, one of three downtown bank buildings in the city eventually listed. Today it is headquarters to the district attorney's office.

Bristol Mum Festival

The Bristol Mum Festival is an annual festival in Bristol, Connecticut which includes a Mum Parade in Connecticut. The festival celebrates chrysanthemums, formerly a major product of the town, and was first held on July 7, 1962. The members of the Chamber of Commerce and City of Bristol officials assembled a list of activities to take place over six days. They wanted to focus on the positive things happening in Bristol. When the festival opened it was originally known as the Fall Festival. In 1963 the Chrysanthemum was also added to the festival's name. Prior to 1986 (when production stopped), the nurseries in Bristol produced over 80,000 mum plants, with acres of land covered in mums. During the festival over 10,000 people would visit the nurseries. Today the events include a parade, carnival, gala, and Miss Mum competition. The events help to show how important Bristol is and what is going on in the city. Thousands attend the festival each year. The event was cancelled before it's 54th festival, which was to be held in 2016.

Wildcat

Wildcat is the name of a wooden roller coaster located at Lake Compounce in Bristol, Connecticut. It was built in 1927 and is the park's centerpiece. It is one of the world's oldest operating roller coasters (in operation at the same location). With a first drop of only 73 feet, it's not too intense making it popular with younger guests. The entire structure was rebuilt with new wood in 1985, and the last bunny hills were retracked in 2004. The Wildcat went down for refurbishment on September 17, 2006 and reopened for the 2007 operating season. During its refurbishment, the brake runs were completely removed and rebuilt with new magnetic brakes. The station also received air gates in the queue line and individual seat belts were added to each seat. The ride was retracked by Martin & Vleminckx. The Wildcat's trains were built by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company. Before the Wildcat was built, the Green Dragon Coaster used to stand in its place. It bears a striking resemblance to the now-defunct Wildcat roller coaster that used to reside at Elitch Gardens in Denver.

Muzzy Field

Muzzy Field is a stadium in Bristol, Connecticut. The ballpark, which is adjacent to the citys Rockwell Park, was built in 1939 and has a capacity of 4,900 people. In 2010, it was the home to the Bristol Collegiate Baseball Club of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. It is also used for high school sports, primarily baseball and football. Currently three high schools employ the field: Bristol Central High School, Bristol Eastern High School, and Saint Paul Catholic High School. The stadium features a ring of tall pine trees that line the outside of the outfield wall and the brickfaced grandstand. Muzzy Field was the home of the Double-A Bristol Red Sox of the Eastern League from 1972 to 1982. Former Boston Red Sox stars Jim Rice, Fred Lynn, and Butch Hobson honed their skills while members of the "BriSox." The ballpark also housed the old Bristol Owls of the Class-B Colonial League in 1949 and 1950, as well as various amateur baseball teams, notably the Bristol En-Dees and the local American Legion team. The Bristol Nighthawks, a now defunct franchise of the New England Collegiate Baseball League, played their home games at Muzzy Field during both 1994 and 1995. The University of Hartfords baseball program used the venue for some home games prior to opening Fiondella Field in 2006. Muzzy Field was the site of the Big East Conference baseball championship tournament from 1985–1995. In 2004 the stadium was also the site of an American Idol audition. A local, though probably apocryphal, legend holds that Babe Ruth hit the first home run in Muzzy Field when traveling with a barnstorming baseball team in the late 1930s or early 1940s. This was the basis for the barnstorming baseball game between Joe Archambeaults formation of the exhibition New England Grey Sox, with Bill Lee, Mark The Bird Fidrych, Bob Stanley, Dick McAulliffe, Dick Radatz, Ozzie Virgil, Mike Stenhouse and others against the Undefeated Bristol Fradette Agency on June 1, 1991. 5,000 came to see the pros vs the hometown heroes. Muzzy Field is also the location of the annual football "Battle for the Bell" contested by the two city public high schools, Bristol Eastern and Bristol Central. The two meet annually on Thanksgiving morning, with the winner holding claim for the bell for the following year. In 2012 and 2013, the City of Bristol approved funding for a significant renovation project of the historic ballpark that when completed, will include a whole new front entrance and public concourse, new lighting, seating, ADA improvements and a new grandstand enclosure along the Muzzy Street side of the stadium connecting to the existing grandstand. The renovations are anticipated to cost approximately $2.5 million, and be completed by late-2014 or 2015. On November 7, 2014 a press conference with the City of Bristol and Futures College Baseball League announced that the Bristol Blues will be playing there summer schedule in Muzzy Field. The league hosts some of the best college ball players from New England to Florida, the season runs from June 3, 2015 thru August 9, 2015. www.bristolbluesbaseball.com .
