Edison Museum

The Edison Museum is a science and history museum about the life and inventions of Thomas Edison, and is located in Beaumont, Texas at 350 Pine St. on the grounds of Edison Plaza The museum features interactive exhibits about Edison, his inventions and innovations, as well as historic artifacts from his life. Featured inventions include the incandescent light bulb, the phonograph, and some of his early motion pictures. There is reference library about Edison.

Fire Museum of Texas

The Fire Museum of Texas is an example of the Renaissance Revival. The building has state-of-the-art interactive fire safety exhibits with a collection of antique fire equipment dating as early as 1856. It also has a two-story interactive playhouse for children to learn fire safety. It is also home to one of the worlds largest fire hydrants. The building is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark.

McFaddin-Ward House

The McFaddin-Ward House is a historic home in Beaumont, Texas, United States built between 1905 1906 in the Beaux-Arts Colonial Revival style. The 12,800-square-foot house and furnishings reflect the lifestyle of the prominent family who lived in the house for seventy-five years. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. Di Vernon Averill commissioned architect Henry Conrad Mauer to build the house, which was sold the next year to Dis brother, William P.H. McFaddin. McFaddin and his wife Ida Caldwell McFaddin, from Huntington, West Virginia, moved into the house in 1907 with their three children: Mamie, age 12, Perry, Jr., age 9, and James Caldwell, age 6. A substantial carriage house was added in the same year. The carriage house had a stable, hayloft, garage, gymnasium and servants quarters. When the McFaddins daughter Mamie married Carroll Ward in 1919, the newlyweds moved in with the McFaddins and lived their entire married life there. Before Mamie McFaddin Ward died in 1982, she created a foundation to preserve the house and the house opened as a museum in 1986. The entire grounds are currently open to the public. Outside the three-floor home are spacious lawns and flower beds and rose gardens. Inside, a substantial permanent collection of antique furniture and household items are in view. The McFaddin-Ward House is one of the few house museums in which the home’s original furnishings are intact and on display. It is also one of the few Beaux-Arts Colonial homes still open to the public. Educational programs focus on history and are geared toward children and adults. The museum hosts lectures, special celebrations, summer camps, and open houses. New exhibits and displays are changed out often, giving fresh interpretations of the home. Christmas time is especially celebrated with special events and Eggnog Thursdays when the public is invited to enjoy eggnog and the McFaddin-recipe tea-cakes before touring the first floor of the house in the December evenings. In addition, it was named a Texas State Historic Landmark in 1976, and the home has been featured on TVs Arts Entertainments Americas Castles as a Lone Star Estate, and the house has been included in several important architectural books. Once every three years, the McFaddin-Ward House museum hosts a historic house museum conference, inviting hundreds of other historic sites to participate. The next conference will be held in 2016.

Beaumont Botanical Gardens

The Beaumont Botanical Gardens, also known as the Tyrrell Park Botanical Gardens, are botanical gardens and a conservatory located in Tyrrell Park at 6088 Babe Zaharias Drive, Beaumont, Texas, USA. The gardens are open to the public every day during daylight hours at no charge; the conservatory has relatively restrictive hours and charges an admission fee. The gardens contain the Binks Horticultural Center; the 10,000-square-foot Warren Loose Conservatory which features tropical plants from around the world, a waterfall, a Koi fish pool; and many theme gardens displaying camellias, modern and antique roses, bromeliads, and native plants. The gardens were first established in 1968, with the Beaumont Garden Center Building dedicated on August 20, 1971. In 1972, a master plan for the gardens was drawn up, and labeling of the trees, vines, and shrubs begun. The Beaumont Garden Center became the Beaumont Botanical Gardens in 1996. A variety of gardens and structures have been added over the subsequent years, including: Green and White Garden, Stream Bed Garden, Antique Rose Garden, Shelter Building in the Garden, Grandmothers Garden, Modern Rose Garden, Japanese garden, Gazebo, Azalea Trail, Daylily Display Garden, Native Plant Garden, Bromeliad Display Garden, herb garden, Violets Garden, Camellia Garden, Vis Fountain, Secret Garden, Palm and Agave Garden, and the Bob Whitman Propagation House .

Montagne Center

The Montagne Center, built in 1984, is a 10,746-seat multi-purpose arena in Beaumont, Texas designed especially for the basketball program. After one year of operation, the arenas seating capacity was expanded from 8,000 in basketball configuration to its current seating capacity of 10,080. The 10,080 capacity is made up of 8,102 permanent seats and a telescopic chairback seating system totaling 1,978 seats. All seats in the arena are cushioned with the exception of folding back seats in the four topmost rows of seats. Including floor seating, the arena has a maximum capacity of 10,746 in event configuration. The Montagne Center is currently home to the Lamar University Cardinals and Lady Cardinals basketball teams. The arena was previously the home of the Lady Cardinals volleyball team until renovations to McDonald Gym were completed in 2006-07. The arena floor can host sporting events including basketball, volleyball, wrestling, boxing and martial arts tournaments. With stadium and floor seating, the Montagne Center can be configured for hosting concert events. The arena floor can also be transformed into hosting graduation ceremonies, proms, dances, banquets and conferences. The building includes the following in addition to the main arena area: Offices Two perimeter courts VIP/Red room which can accommodate 20 to 150 guests located above the Concourse Level and overlooks the arena as well as the adjacent Provost Umphrey Stadium Cardinal Club Room which can accommodate 20 to 200 guests Players lounge Study area Meeting room 3,442 sq ft with adjacent kitchen

McDonald Gym

McDonald Gym is currently primarily a volleyball gymnasium located on the campus of Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas USA. Along with the Montagne Center, it is also still used as one of the venues for an annual YMBL South Texas Shootout high school basketball tournament held on the campus of Lamar University. The tournament began in 1952. The Gym has been home to the Lamar Lady Cardinal Volleyball Team since its renovation was completed in 2007. The gym was previously the home to both the Lamar Cardinals mens basketball team and Volleyball team from 1958 until the 1980-81 season. It was also the home of the Lamar Lady Cardinals basketball team from 1969 to 1980-81. The basketball teams called the off-campus Beaumont Civic Center home from 1980-1984 until the construction of the 10,080 seat Montagne Center in 1984 gave the basketball teams a new on-campus home. The facility was named after the fourth president of Lamar Dr. F.L. McDonald.

Beaumont Civic Center

The Beaumont Civic Center, in downtown Beaumont, Texas, is a 6,500-seat arena where concerts, conventions, trade shows and exhibitions are held. It has 29,300 square feet of ground-level exhibit space and 12,000 square feet space on the second level for a combined space of 41,300 square feet . The venue is part of the Beaumont Civic Center Complex. This complex includes the Civic Center, Julie Rogers Theater and the Jefferson Theatre. The Civic Center is the temporary home of the Beaumont Children's Museum.

Lamar University

Lamar University, often referred to as Lamar or LU, is a public coeducational doctoral/research university in Beaumont, Texas. Lamar has been a member of the Texas State University System since 1995. It was the flagship institution of the former Lamar University System. As of the fall of 2014, the university enrollment was 14,889 students. Lamar University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Downtown Beaumont is currently experiencing a renaissance, with streets, sidewalks and historic buildings receiving significant attention. The approximate borders of Downtown are the Neches River to the east. Interstate 10 to the north. Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway to the West and College street to the south.

Jefferson Theatre

The Jefferson Theatre is a historic performing arts theatre located on Fannin Street in downtown Beaumont, Texas. Designed by Emile Weil and built in 1927, it is an example of Old Spanish architecture and seats over 1400. The theatre was built by Jefferson Amusement Company, which was owned by Saenger Amusements. The theatre is featured on the National Register of Historic Places and recognized as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. The theatre recently underwent a comprehensive multimillion-dollar renovation. It is also one of the few theatres in the country containing its original Morton organ, produced by the Robert Morton Organ Company.

Tyrrell Historical Library

The Tyrrell Historical Library is a public library in Beaumont, Texas. Originally built in 1903 to serve as the First Baptist Church, the building displays a mix of Richardsonian Romanesque and Victorian Gothic architectures, with pointed arch windows and quatrefoils, and all of its original stained glass. The building became vacant in 1923 when the congregation moved to a new location. It was bought by Captain W. C. Tyrrell, who donated the building to the city for use as its first public library. The building is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and also as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. It is also a contributing property to the Downtown Historic District. After renovations, the library opened in 1926, serving as the main public library until 1974. Following construction of a new facility, this one was renamed as the "Tyrrell Historical Library," in honor of the philanthropist. It is the center repository of extensive genealogical archives and the library maintains a hallmark Texana collection. It was remodeled with systems upgrades in 1990. An addition was constructed in 2010, reflecting the main building's style without trying to recreate it.

Jefferson County Courthouse

The Jefferson County Courthouse in Beaumont, Texas is one of the tallest courthouses in the state, and is an excellent example of Art Deco architecture. Built in 1931, it is the fourth courthouse built in Jefferson County. It was designed by Fred Stone and Augustin Babin, and is thirteen stories high. In 1981, an annex was added to the west side of the courthouse.

Tyrrell Park and Cattail Marsh

Tyrrell Park is a municipal park located in Beaumont, Texas. The park has an area of around 500 acres . It includes the eighteen hole Henry Homberg Golf Course; the 23.5 acres Beaumont Botanical Gardens and 10,000 square feet Warren Loose Conservatory, the second largest public conservatory in Texas; a 2.8 mile hiking trail; an equestrian center; and facilities for several sports and outdoor activities. Adjacent to the park is the 900 acres Cattail Marsh, a nature center with hiking trail. The park is located in a migratory bird flyway and Tyrrell Park is listed on the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail.

Dishman Art Museum

The Dishman Art Museum is an art museum on the campus of Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. Admission to the museum is completely free; the gallery is open from 8 a.m. 5 p.m., Monday Friday. The museum also serves as a teaching facility in the Art Department at Lamar University. Exhibitions change monthly. The gallery features one-person exhibition of contemporary artists, group exhibitions of contemporary artists, Art Department faculty shows, graduating senior shows, a national competition (The Dishman Competition), artist-in-residency, Grand Bal (annual art auction), and High School Scholarship exhibitions. There are three gallery spaces Upper Gallery, Lower Gallery, and the Heinz and Ruth Eisenstadt Collection which consists of 150 19th-century paintings and 250 porcelains and objets d'art. The exhibition space totals 6,000 square feet (560 m2).

Beaumont Art League

The Beaumont Art League is the oldest non-profit art organization in the Beaumont, Texas area. Now in its 70th year of operation, the BAL continues to host monthly art exhibitions, juried shows, and arts education for adults and children. It also maintains a permanent collection of art and art objects, primarily by local artists.

Vincent–Beck Stadium

Vincent–Beck Stadium is a ballpark located in Beaumont, Texas on Jim Gilligan Way. It was built in 1969 and has a current capacity of 3,500 spectators. The stadium has been expanded several times and has had numerous renovations over its existence. It is the home stadium of the Lamar Cardinals baseball team. It was also home to the Beaumont Golden Gators, a minor league Double-A Texas League affiliate of the San Diego Padres as well as the Beaumont Bullfrogs of the Central Baseball League . The facility is named after former Major League Baseball coach Al Vincent and Bryan Beck, a former member of the Lamar University board of regents. The ballpark hosted the Sun Belt Conference Baseball Tournament in 1993 and the Southland Conference Baseball Tournament in 2001 and 2002 and 2006. As the 2015 season began, the Cardinals had a 900-436-4 win/loss record at Vincent-Beck Stadium for a 67.3% winning record.

Ford Park

Ford Park is a multi-purpose park, arena, exhibit hall, pavilion, midway, and fields located on I-10 South in Beaumont, Texas. Ford Arena seats 9,737 people. It is currently home to Oxford City FC of Texas of the Major Arena Soccer League. It is the former home to the Southeast Texas Mavericks ABA franchise, Beaumont Drillers of the NIFL, and the Texas Wildcatters of the East Coast Hockey League. The arena also hosts concerts, rodeos, circuses, motor sports, ice shows and many other special events. Ford Exhibit Hall is a multi-purpose hall for exhibits, boat shows, and more. It has 83,000 feet of space. Ford Fields are 12 softball/baseball fields. Ford Midway is a 9-acre midway for fairs and carnivals, and other large outdoor events. It is the home of the South Texas State Fair. Ford Pavilion seats 18,000 people. Ford Pavilion is the home of Dog Jam, an annual rock music event. The park opened in 2003. There is also an RV park on the site, the Gulf Coast RV Resort. In addition, there are eight meeting rooms and a regional visitors center.

Julie Rogers Theater

The Julie Rogers Theater is a historic performing arts theater located on Pearl Street in downtown Beaumont, Texas. Built in 1928, the theater was once Beaumont's City Hall and Auditorium. The capacity is approximately 1700 seats.

South Texas State Fair

The South Texas State Fair is an annual regional state fair held in Beaumont, Texas. The fair features a livestock show, a commercial exhibition, and a carnival Midway. Food concessions are a major attraction of the fair. Reflecting Beaumont's location in Southeast Texas, normal carnival foods can be found alongside barbecue, Tex-Mex, and Cajun foods (often including fried alligator). As of 2009, the South Texas State Fair had an attendance of over 500,000 people, second in the state to the State Fair of Texas in Dallas. The fair is held annually in late March to early April.

Idle Hours

The house nicknamed "Idle Hours" was built in 1903 by architect Frank T. Smith for L.P. Ogden and his wife Cynthia. Because the house was considered to be out in the country at the time of its construction, Mrs. Ogden preferred to retain her town home and named her new country estate "Idle Hours". The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The home was owned by several prominent Beaumont families. In 1970 it was donated to Land Manor, a non-profit organization which subsequently converted the residence into a halfway house to help people return to society. In 2002 it once again became a private residence of the Bienvenu family and continues to be known by the many locals as "Bienvenu Manor". The Bienvenu family continues to do extensive renovations to restore the carriage house, servant's quarters and the large main house.

Temple Emanuel

Temple Emanuel is a Reform Jewish synagogue in Beaumont, Texas. The congregation was founded in September 1895, and erected its first building in 1901. This wooden building in Neo-Byzantine style design was replaced by the congregation's current brick building in 1923. Particularly notable are the congregation's set of six windows, each 16-feet high, designed by Ze'ev Raban. The windows were commissioned from Raban in 1922 by Rabbi Samuel Rosinger. Each window depicts an event in the life of one of the principal Hebrew prophets, Jeremiah, Elijah, Elisha, Ezekiel, Moses, and Isaiah.

Lamar Softball Complex

The Lamar Softball Complex, currently under construction, is the home stadium for the Division I Lamar Lady Cardinals softball team. Located next to the Lamar Soccer Complex on the campus of Lamar University, the stadium will feature seating for 500 fans after Phase I has been completed. Included in the 500 seat capacity will be 300 chairback seats. Future plans call for an outfield grass berm to accommodate an additional 250 fans. The stadium will have field lighting, bullpens, dugouts, a press box, enclosed hitting area, and an electronic scoreboard. Adjacent to the stadium site is the pre-existing Lamar Soccer and Softball Complex building which houses coaches offices; home, visitors, and referees locker rooms; training rooms; concessions; and restrooms for soccer and softball. The initial home game was played in the partially completed stadium on March 6, 2015 against the Houston Baptist Huskies softball team.

San Jacinto Building

The San Jacinto Building in Beaumont, Texas was built between 1921-1922 and was completed for the San Jacinto Life Insurance Company. The building is 15 stories tall and supports a large clock tower on top. Each dial is 17 feet in diameter. The building was altered in the 50's with the removal of a "cupola" and the cornice that surrounded the building. It is privately owned today and is used as an office building. The building contributes to the Beaumont Commercial District.

Lamar University College of Engineering

The Lamar University College of Engineering is an engineering college at Lamar University. The college offers bachelors, masters, doctorates and Ph.D.'s. The college's goal in its own words is to provide a foundation of strong theoretical emphasis, the development of practical engineering skills, experience in interpersonal communication and teamwork, and an emphasis on ethics, professional conduct and critical thinking. The vision for LUCOE is to provide students with engineering theory and practice, industrial experience and leadership skills.

Hotel Beaumont

The Hotel Beaumont in Beaumont, Texas was built in 1922 by a group of 277 investors. One Million dollars was spent to build the structure. The building is 11 stories tall, and has 250 rooms. The building contains two ballrooms, the Rose Room, and the Sky Room on the Roof, both of which were used many times during the structures colorful history. The building recently had a multimillion-dollar restoration, and is used as a retirement home today. As of 2014 the Hotel Beaumont is no longer used as a retirement home as the restoration continues.

Edson Hotel

The Edson Hotel in Beaumont, Texas was built in 1929 at a cost of $1.5 Million, and was designed by F.W. and D.E. Steinman of Beaumont. The building is 22 stories tall. The building was bought in 1955 by Gulf States Utilities, and has been an office building ever since.

First National Bank Building

The First National Bank Building in downtown Beaumont, Texas was built in 1937 and is an excellent example of Art Deco architecture. The building is four stories tall and decorated with reliefs of workers and business people designed by Beaumont-based sculptor Matchett Herring Coe.

Kyle Building

The Kyle Building was built in 1933 in downtown Beaumont, Texas. It was designed as a retail storefront, with two-story offices at each end of the building. It is located at 215 Orleans St. The building contains 11 stores, and it is an excellent example of Zig-Zag Art Deco architecture. A contributing property to the Beaumont Historic District, it is located at the site of the former Kyle Opera house, which was demolished in 1931.

Provost Umphrey Stadium

Provost Umphrey Stadium is a 16,000-seat multi-purpose stadium in Beaumont, Texas. The stadium is located next to the Montagne Center on the campus of Lamar University. It is home to the Lamar Cardinals football team.

Jack Brooks Federal Building

The Jack Brooks Federal Building is a federal office building in Beaumont, Texas. Completed during the Great Depression in 1933, it was the United States Post Office and Federal Building. The building houses courtrooms and chambers of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, and an office of the United States Postal Service. In the 1978, President Jimmy Carter came to Beaumont to officiate over the renaming of the building for Congressman Jack Brooks, who lived in and represented the area for many years. The building features many Corinthian columns and has many detailed features. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing property to the Beaumont Commercial District.
