National Railroad Museum

The National Railroad Museum is a railroad museum located in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin, in suburban Green Bay. The museum is one of the oldest institutions in the United States dedicated to preserving and interpreting the nations railroad history. It was founded in 1956 by community volunteers in Green Bay. Throughout its history, patron contributions have continued to create one of the largest railroad preservation institutions in the United States. The National Railroad Museum has a large collection of rolling stock and spanning more than a century of railroading and a number of historic locomotives, including an Aerotrain, Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4017, and British Railways Class A4 No. 60008 Dwight D Eisenhower and train used by the Supreme Allied Commander and his staff in the United Kingdom and continental Europe during World War II. In addition to the rolling stock, there is a museum building housing a wide variety of railroad artifacts, an archive, and photography gallery. There is also a standard gauge track around the perimeter of the grounds. There is also an 80-foot high wooden observation tower with views of the river and Green Bay. The museum hosts an annual Day Out with Thomas event, where Thomas the Tank Engine pulls young friends past the exhibited rolling stock. In October of every year in preparation for Halloween, the grounds of the museum are the site of the Green Bay Preble Optimist Clubs haunted attraction, "Terror on the Fox", which uses the trains for "haunted" rides through the grounds after dark, along with other attractions.

Green Bay Botanical Garden

Green Bay Botanical Garden is a nonprofit botanical garden located at 2600 Larsen Road, Green Bay, Wisconsin. It is open daily in the warmer months, or weekdays in the colder months; an admission fee is charged. The gardens opened in 1996 on a site that was previously Larsen Orchard. As of early 2006, the gardens include: Agnes Schneider Terrace perennial flowers and ornamental grasses. Four Seasons Garden a garden with winter interest, featuring magnolias, crabapples, lilacs, and perennials. Gertrude B. Nielsen Children’s Garden childrens garden, with a tree house, slide, maze, and sundial. Kaftan Lusthaus a summerhouse of Scandinavian design. Mabel Thome Fountain Garden a fountain ringed with crabapples and annuals. Marguerite Kress Oval a rose garden of contemporary design. John and Janet Van Den Wymelenberg Color and Foliage Garden trees, shrubs, grasses, perennials, and vines with varied foliage . Larsen Orchard Remnant apple trees, with an underplanting of spring-flowering bulbs. Mary Hendrickson Johnson Wisconsin Woodland Garden an informal garden of native trees, shrubs and wild flowers surrounding a lawn for social gatherings. Schierl Wellhouse and Garden The gardens well, and a garden of annuals and herbs. Stumpf Belvedere a gazebo in early Greek style. Upper Rose Garden a rose garden of hardy shrubs and hybrid tea roses. Vanderperren English Cottage Garden a Wisconsin interpretation of an English cottage garden. During the winter months, the garden hosts the WPS Garden of Lights, a display of over 200,000 holiday lights.

Weidner Center

The Weidner Center for the Performing Arts is a performing arts center in Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA and part of University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. It is named after the university's founder, Dr. Edward Weidner. In addition to being the home of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay's theatre and musical ensembles, the center also hosts individual entertainers and touring companies. The center seats about 2,021 people with three levels of seating and has a mandate of providing a venue accessible to both the university population and to the larger Green Bay community. The center opened on January 15, 1993. In December 2005, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay announced that it would no longer book Broadway performances, and would focus on campus and community performances, speakers, and educational programming. One year later, it announced that a non-profit organization, Weidner Center Presents, would handle the booking of larger shows.

Baird Law Office

The Baird Law Office in Green Bay, Wisconsin was built in the 1830s in Greek Revival style, which was then popular as one of America's first architectural styles that explicitly rejected British practices. The small one-story building measures just 16 x 30 feet in size and served historically as a professional building. A plaque from 1964 explains that it was built as a law office for Henry S. Baird in the early 1830s, then later used as a residence, and it was restored and moved to its then-current site in 1960. Other sources state that it was instead used first by owner Samuel Beall as a land office and his residence, and was purchased a few years later by Baird: "Henry S. Baird was an influential figure in local and state history. He found architecture befitting his stature when he purchased what became his namesake in 1841." The building was listed, for its architecture, on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. The listing is for a 4-acre area with just the one contributing building and no other structures. According to the National Register's database, the building was built in 1831. According to the historical park, the building was built in 1835. The Heritage Park states that the building was constructed by Samuel Beall, in 1835, "at the corner of Main and Monroe Streets", in Green Bay and "used as a land office and Beall’s residence." It was moved several times, in fact, before being moved to Heritage Hill, in Allouez, in 1975. It is now located within what is now Heritage Hill State Park. Also located in the park are several other NRHP-listed buildings. According to Nick Backhaus, a restoration supervisor at Heritage Hill, the 16 x 30-foot building might have "survived because of its unique architecture, and people identified that it was unique." He noted that "The architecture is Greek Revival, a style popular in the 1800s, though often expressed on much larger buildings," Backhaus said. "Many prosperous Americans believed that ancient Greece represented the spirit of democracy." Architectural details include a portico with four columns, the center two having Ionic capitals and being round fluted. The outer two, without capitals, are square. The pediment has a cedar frieze board and dentils.

Bellevue Park

Bellevue Park was the name of a stadium used for football games in what is today Green Bay, Wisconsin. The park was just east of the Hagemeister Brewery, which was renamed the "Bellevue Products Co." during Prohibition, and was located just east of Baird Creek along Main Street in the village of Preble, Wisconsin. A minor league baseball park, it was the home of the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League in 1923 and 1924. Bellevue Park was the second home venue of the Packers, who had previously played their home games at Hagemeister Park. During their tenure at Bellevue Park, the Packers became more popular, with game attendance ranging from 4,000 to 5,000 spectators. Because Bellevue Park was lacking virtually every facility required for football and was too far out of town, in 1925, the Packers moved their games to the then brand new City Stadium.

Clarke Hinkle Field

Clarke Hinkle Field is one of the two outdoor American football practice facilities of the Green Bay Packers (the other being Ray Nitschke Field). These fields, together with the Don Hutson Center, comprise the team's training complex. The field is named for Clarke Hinkle, who played for the Packers from 1932 to 1941. Hinkle is a member of both the Pro Football and Packers halls of fame. The field itself has been in use by the team since 1958, and was named for the former player in 1997. Clarke Hinkle Field has a sand-based natural turf surface, installed in 2005. The natural grass surface is reinforced with artificial fibers using the Desso GrassMaster system. It was installed at Clarke Hinkle Field as a test for the turf problems that plagued Lambeau Field in the later months of the season which proved successful, as Lambeau Field itself was sodded with the Desso GrassMaster system in 2007. The nearby indoor Ray Nitschke Field has an artificial FieldTurf surface, allowing the team to practice on surfaces used by the majority of NFL teams.
