Castillo de San Cristóbal

The Castillo de San Cristóbal in Santa Cruz de Tenerife was the first fortification of significance on the island of Tenerife and the main defensive building on Santa Cruz Bay. There remain only a few walls of the original building on display in an underground tunnel in the Plaza de España in the city. The central Castle Street is named after this fort. Under the administration of Gov. Álvarez de Fonseca, construction began in 1575 but it was the January 20, 1577 when it entered service. After the construction of the Plaza de España, the castle was buried under it for centuries. On June 28, 2006, during the refurbishment of the Plaza of Spain, some remains were later found to belong to the castle. At that time were taken precautionary and protective measures in order to ensure the preservation of the find. Today, the castle is a museum which houses the famous "Cañón Tigre", which shot a musketball to Rear-Admiral Horatio Nelsons right arm, which fractured his humerus bone in multiple places on July 25, 1797, the reason why he had his arm amputated.

Iglesia de San Francisco de Asís

The Iglesia de San Francisco de Asís is a Catholic church located in the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife . This church was originally a Franciscan convent and is now the second most important church of the city, after the Church of the Conception. The present church was completed in 1680 and notable for the large number of works of art he owns. The church has three naves and is one of the best examples of Baroque architecture in the Canary Islands. Auditorio de Tenerife

Construction began in 1997 and was completed in 2003. The auditorium was inaugurated on 26 September of that year with the presence of Felipe de Borbón, Prince of Asturias, and was later visited by former U.S. President Bill Clinton. The building is framed within the tenets of late-modern architecture of the late 20th century. The majestic profile of the auditorium has become an architectural symbol of the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island of Tenerife and the Canary Islands. It is also regarded as the finest modern building in the Canary Islands and one of the most emblematic buildings of Spanish architecture. In March 2008, it was included by the post office in a set of six stamps depicting the most emblematic works of Spanish architecture. In 2011, the image of the Tenerife Auditorium was included in a series of commemorative coins of 5 euros, which displayed the most emblematic symbols of several Spanish cities. It is one of the major attractions of Tenerife and home to the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife (Tenerife Symphony Orchestra).

Centro Internacional de Ferias y Congresos de Tenerife

The Tenerife International Centre for Trade Fairs and Congresses , also known as "The Fair Recint" was opened in May 1996. The building, covers an area exceeding 40,000 square meters in the sea front of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Is in close proximity to other venues such as the Parque Marítimo César Manrique, the Auditorio de Tenerife and the Palmetum. The Great Hall, located on the top floor, took a total of 12,000 square meters, making it the largest covered space in the Canary Islands. This building is also the headquarters of the World Trade Center Tenerife. The complex was designed by architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava is configured as a multipurpose building that can host major fairs, exhibitions and conferences that take place on the island of Tenerife. Museo de la Naturaleza y el Hombre

Museo de la Naturaleza y el Hombre,, is a museum based in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Tenerife, . It contains many significant archaeological finds and is considered the best repository of objects from the Prehispanic Canary Islands. The museum also houses significant paleontological, botanical, entomological and marine and terrestrial vertebrate collections, in an excellent state of preservation, and is considered the best Natural Library of the Canary Islands. The museum also integrates the Archaeological Museum of Tenerife, the Bioantropologías Canary Institute and the Museum of Natural Sciences of Tenerife. The museum is located in the downtown area of Santa Cruz, in the former Civil Hospital, a building that constitutes an example of the neoclassical architecture of Canary Islands. The archaeological section was founded in 1958. The museum holds the largest collection on the culture of the Guanche and also has one of the most modern methods of presentation of mummies, . It is also an internationally renowned museum and has participated in international meetings on archeology, but its fame is mainly due to its formidable collection of Guanche mummies. It is also regarded as the most important museum of Macaronesia.

Playa de Las Teresitas

The Playa de Las Teresitas is a beach north of the village of San Andrés municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in Tenerife, Spain. Originally the beach consisted of mostly rocks and a small strip of black sand. It was divided into three distinct parts that had different names: Tras la Arena which was the original, Los Moros in the middle, and finally the area bounded by the ravine of Las Teresas. In 1973, 270,000 tons of white sand was shipped from Spanish Sahara to create an artificial beach of white sand. Two piers and a kilometer long breakwater located 150 meters from the beach was constructed to prevent waves from carrying the sand out to the sea. The project cost 50 million pesetas and an addition 400 million pesetas in 1998 when another 2,800 tonnes sand from Sahara was added to replenish the sand lost in the beachs 25 first years of existence. It is one of the most popular beaches of the Canary Islands, and is one of the few on Tenerife that do not have the black, volcanic sand that most of the rest of the Canary Islands have. Others such as Las Vistas, in Los Cristianos, are artificial, but the beach at El Médano is entirely natural.

Macizo de Anaga

Macizo de Anaga is a mountain range in the northeastern part of the island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. The highest point is 1,024 m . It stretches from the Punta de Anaga in the northeast to Cruz del Carmen in the southwest. Anaga features the mountain peaks of Bichuelo, Anambro, Chinobre, Pico Limante, Cruz de Taborno and Cruz del Carmen. The mountains were formed by a volcanic eruption about 7 to 9 million years ago making it the oldest part of the island. Since 1987 it has been protected as a "natural park", reclassified as "rural park" in 1994. Since 2015 it is also Biosphere Reserve and is the place that has the largest number of endemic species in Europe. It is a remote and wild area, characterized by humid forests, including laurisilva. Native plant species include Ceropegia dichotoma, Ceropegia fusca and Echium virescens. The Macizo de Anaga is also rich in archaeological finds, including the Guanche Mummy of San Andrés. The main villages in the Macizo de Anaga are San Andrés, Taganana and Igueste de San Andrés. A place in the mountains which is called "El Bailadero" is believed to have been a place where witches were practicing witchcraft and dancing around a bonfire.

Teatro Guimerá

Teatro Guimerá is a theatre located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital city of the island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands . Built in 1849, it is the oldest theater in the Canary Islands. In 1923 it was named after the writer, poet and playwright Ángel Guimerá, born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The theatre was built in 1849 by the architect Manuel de Oráa in classical-romance style. It underwent important works of modification in 1911, mainly of the interior of the building, headed by Antonio Pintor. Between 1989 and 1991 works of restoration and modernisation were done by the architect Carlos Schwartz. Further improvements were made in 2010 under supervision of Haris Kozo. Until the opening of the Auditorio de Tenerife, it was the seat of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife.

Plaza de España

Plaza de España, is the largest square in the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the Canary Islands . The square is located in the centre of town, 1.4 km north of the Auditorio de Tenerife. This square is considered one of the "main squares" of the island of Tenerife, together with the Plaza del Cristo de La Laguna in San Cristóbal de La Laguna and the Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias in Candelaria. It is the heart of the city, stands the great artificial lake source or work of Swiss architects Herzog de Meuron. The Plaza of Spain is surrounded by the Palacio del Cabildo de Tenerife, the Palacio de la Carta and the Plaza de la Candelaria. In the centre of the square stands the Monumento a los Caídos . The square was built in 1929 on the historic Castillo de San Cristóbal, a bastion for defending the island of piracy, currently there are only a few walls of the original building on display in an underground tunnel under the square. Recently the square was refurbished by Swiss architects Herzog de Meuron.

Museo Municipal de Bellas Artes de Santa Cruz de Tenerife

The Museo Municipal de Bellas Artes de Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a museum of fine arts located in the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain). Its headquarters are located in the rear of the Church of St. Francis of Assisi. The museum dates back to 1840, when the city agreed to make some boxes to preserve flags from the Battle of Cape St Vincent against Admiral Horatio Nelson. The building is of a classical style and was established in early 1929 by the architect Eladio Laredo. The exterior is decorated with ten different busts of the illustrious of Tenerife. The museum has fourteen rooms that have a background as a repository of works from the Prado Museum in Madrid. The museum houses an art collection ranging from sixteenth-century Flemish to twentieth-century paintings, as well as a sample of sculptures and crafts. The "Tríptico de Nava y Grimón" by the Flemish painter Pieter Coecke is one of the most notable parts of the collection. Other noteworthy works are those by Canarian painter Juan de Miranda, Afonso Gaspar de Quevedo, Jose Rivera and Cristóbal Hernández de Quintana, among others.

Iglesia de la Concepción

The Iglesia-Parroquia Matriz de Nuestra Señora de La Concepción is a Catholic church located in the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife . It is the only church in the Canary Islands have five naves. This church was built upon the first chapel erected by the Spanish conquistadors after landing on the coast where they would later build the city. This church is the main temple of the city, which is why it is called "the Cathedral of Santa Cruz". However, it not is a cathedral; the Cathedral of La Laguna is the cathedral of Tenerife. The Iglesia de la Concepción is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. In this church is the image of St. James (patron saint of Santa Cruz de Tenerife). Inside the church is kept the cross that gave rise to the founding of the city. Stresses the organ, brought from London and acquired in 1862. In this church is a relic of St. Clement I, Pope and Martyr. The architectural style of the church is baroque and Tuscan. The bell tower is the most identifiable part of the church. The Church of the Conception has been declared a site of cultural interest.

Punta de Anaga Lighthouse

The Punta de Anaga Lighthouse is an active lighthouse on the Canary island of Tenerife, in the municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Punta de Anaga is the most northerly point on the island, and is where the Anaga mountain range meets the sea. It was originally proposed to construct a second order lighthouse on the Savage Islands, which lie 165 km north of Tenerife. But the sovereignty of the islands was an issue, so a first order light was commissioned at Punta de Anaga instead. Completed in 1864, it is one of the oldest lighthouses in the Canaries; Punta de Jandía on Gran Canaria was also opened in the same year. Built in a similar style to other Canarian 19th century lights, it consists of a white washed single storey house, with dark volcanic rock used for the masonry detailing. A twelve metre high tower, with a twin gallery is attached to the seaward side of the house, facing the Atlantic Ocean. The lighthouse still retains its original Fresnel lens, which was supplied by Barbier and Fenestre of Paris. With a focal height of 247m above the sea, its light can be seen for 21 nautical miles.

Tenerife Espacio de las Artes

The Tenerife Space of Arts (Tenerife Espacio de las Artes TEA); is a building of approximately 20,622 square metres that houses the contemporary museum Óscar Domínguez Institute (Instituto Óscar Domínguez); the Alejandro Cioranescu Island Library and the Center for Photography Island of Tenerife (Centro de Fotografía Isla de Tenerife). In addition, the property has a hall, a restaurant, a shop, a public square, and many offices. This cultural space, promoted by the Council of Tenerife (Cabildo de Tenerife), is located in the center of the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island of Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain), on the banks of the Gulley of Santos (Barranco de Santos); between the market of Nuestra Señora de Africa and the Church of the Conception (Iglesia de la Concepción), and near the Museum of Nature and Man (Museo de la Naturaleza y el Hombre). The building was designed by the Swiss firm of architects Herzog & de Meuron and directed by the Canary architect Virgilio Gutierrez Herreros. Its design provides the opening to the outside of its interior spaces, bringing light and energy to the whole and connecting the old part of town with the modern. This area contains a public square, open and accessible to visitors, whose main function is to lead the public into the building. It also has a wide spiral staircase that connects to both the upper and the lower. The objectives of this cultural space, directed by the Bilbaoan Javier Gonzalez Durana, its to contribute to the flowering of culture, cultural cooperation with various countries and the promotion of young talents of the island. The access to the TEA is possible from different parts of the city as a new public road runs diagonally through the building connecting the upper level with the Bridge Serrador lower edge of the Gulley of Santos.

Masonic Temple of Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Historic Masonic Temple of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a Masonic Temple located in the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain), on San Lucas street. The building was constructed for use by the Lodge Añaza between 1899 and 1902. It is considered one of the main Masonic temples in Spain, and the first in the Canary Islands. It is considered the finest example of Masonic Temple in Spain. Similarly was even greater in Spain Masonic Center before it was occupied by Franco's military. On August 8, 1895 saw the founding of the Masonic workshop twentieth century's most important in the Canary Islands, Añaza Lodge, which would consolidate rapidly, achieving canaria Masonry reorganize the first third of that century. The main door is carved in wood with geometric patterns; about it, the lintel is decorated with palm leaves and a sun with wings of an eagle, symbol of the deity Horus. The building stands on an estereóbato. The Masonic Temple of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is located at the same latitude (28º north) of the Saint Catherine's Monastery of Mount Sinai (Egypt). This monastery was built in the place where according to the Old Testament, Moses received the Tables of the Law. The building it is listed as a Site of cultural interest by the Government of the Canary Islands in 2007.

Palacio Insular de Tenerife

Palacio Insular de Tenerife (English: Insular Palace of Tenerife) is a building in the Spanish city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, home of the Cabildo de Tenerife. Designed by the architect José Enrique Marrero Regalado, and executed between 1935 and 1940, it is located in the Plaza de España. The building stands out for its tower topped by a clock commissioned in 1950 and is one of the most recognizable symbols of the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The building project was the result of a contest that the County Council ruled in favor of the architect Enrique Marrero Regalado in 1934. The technician came to realize in collaboration with the architect Schneider four projects, two of which were monumental type and two rationalists; was elected the fourth solution, of great monumental packaging. Inside you can find an interesting collection of art, including murals Salón Noble, designed by the Canarian painter José Aguiar. The project was signed in July 1934, beginning six months after the works, lasting jobs until 1940. The breadth of the building made me think of reconciling its functions. In January 2014 record for declaration of Site of cultural interest by the Government of the Canary Islands. In 2017 the entire building was declared as such.

The Chicharro Sculpture

The Chicharro Sculpture or Allegorical sculpture the Chicharro it is a bronze sculpture of a horse mackerel (Trachurus trachurus), located in the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain), which has become one of its most beloved symbols. Originally the sculpture was donated to the city by the Venezuelan Cultural Association's "Liqui-Liquis" and the city of Santa Cruz and the island of Tenerife gift. He settled in 1979 in a place that was later called Square of Chicharro. In 2000 the statue was stolen and billed to Valencia, where he narrowly escaped being melted for scrap metal. Despite this the original image was found in very bad condition, so the current replica is created only preserved the original image of the wave that seems to be jumping fish, this wave was included in the new sculpture. The current sculpture as above is made from bronze, it weighs approximately 600 kilos and is located since November 2003 on a basalt stone. At present, the sculpture is a symbol that gives its name to the inhabitants of the capital and the island; Chicharrero.

The hospital complex is well connected to the motorways of the North and South of Tenerife. With a total of 3,391 professionals, it is geared to medical care in the south of Tenerife, and referral hospital for the islands of La Gomera and El Hierro. Furthermore, due to its structural and technological characteristics and depending on the needs that it is demanding, it is credited as reference for all health areas of the Canary Islands, the service Liver Transplant and service of Allergology for the Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
