Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center

The Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center opened in Moscow in November 2012 and is thought to be the largest Jewish museum in the world. Construction of the museum is estimated to have cost $50 million. Vladimir Putin personally donated one month of his salary towards the construction of the museum. This large and engaging museum dedicated to the complex history of Russian Jewry, is thoroughly modern in approach, favouring personal testimony, archival video footage and interactive displays all translated into Russian and English. The exhibitions are divided chronologically, helping visitors to understand the life of Jewish communities as they travelled across medieval Europe, settling in shtetls before moving to the cities. The role of Russian Jewry in public life in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries is particularly well presented as is the fate of Soviet Jews and the role of Jewish soldiers during World War II. Visitors of Russian-Jewish origins will no doubt be particularly interested in hearing about what it meant to be a ‘Soviet Jew’ and finding out how and why so many left the USSR. Those expecting to find just a stark representation of pogroms, holocaust, hardships and suffering will be pleasantly surprised to find Russian Jewish history presented as something much more complex, filled with both struggles and achievements. The museum is located in the northwestern Moscow neighborhood of Marina Roscha and can also be reached by taking tram no.19 from metro Novoslobodskaya.

National Centre for Contemporary Arts

The National Center for Contemporary Art , Moscow, Russia, is a major museum, exhibition and research organization which primarily aims its efforts at the development of Contemporary Russian Art within the context of the global art process, at the creation and implementation of programs and projects in the sphere of contemporary art, architecture and design both in Russia and beyond its borders. The activity of the Center evolves in close cooperation with artists and independent experts in the sphere of contemporary art, art culture and various organizations, such as museums, research institutions, public organizations, both in Russia, and abroad. The activities of the National Center of Contemporary Art follow several basic lines: popularization and support of Contemporary Russian Art; various forms of curator work helping realize exhibition and audiovisual projects, installations, performances, hold video and movie presentations, creative sessions; analytical and information research activity in the sphere of contemporary art; educational activities lectures, seminars, master classes; work to form the collection of contemporary art, including Russian and foreign art. Today, when the efforts of the previous years are bringing fruit, the National Center for Contemporary Art continues its active work aimed at the development and popularization of the Russian contemporary art and its integration in the global art context. At present NCCA is a network institution with its branches in major cultural centers of Russia, such as St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg and Kaliningrad. The National Center for Contemporary Art works under the auspices and with the constant support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and The Federal Agency for Culture and Cinematography.

Moscow Rizhskaya railway station

Rizhsky station (Russian: Рижский вокзал, Rizhsky vokzal, Riga station) is one of the nine main railway stations in Moscow, Russia. It was built in 1901. As well as being an active station it also houses the Moscow Railway Museum. The station is operated by the Moscow Railway. It is located at Rizhskaya Square, at the crossing of Mira Avenue and Sushchyovsky Val. The station is served by Rizhskaya metro station. Although Rizhskiy Station is relatively the least busiest station in Moscow, its connection to Latvia is Moscow's only, and is highly used. On the intersection of two main roads, Rizhskiy is adjacent to a Holiday Inn hotel, a large market, and numerous Moscow apartments and offices. In addition, Rizhskiy Station has some of the best architecture of all the Moscow "vokzals".
