Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez

The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is a 4.484 km race track in Mexico City, Mexico, named after the famous racing drivers Ricardo and Pedro Rodríguez. The circuit got its name shortly after it opened when Ricardo Rodríguez died in practice for the non-Championship 1962 Mexican Grand Prix. Ricardos brother Pedro also lost his life behind the wheel nine years later. The circuit is located within the public park of the Magdalena Mixhuca Sports City in southeast Mexico City. The circuit is owned by the Government of the City, but is currently operated under concession by Corporación Interamericana de Entretenimiento through OCESA, one of CIEs subsidiaries. CIE also organizes the NASCAR and Desafío Corona races in this circuit and rents the circuits to other parties, including race organizers, automobile clubs and track amateurs for fees that are controversial due to their disproportionately high amounts compared to other ex-F1 courses. The NASCAR Nationwide Series started racing at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in the 2005 season and ended in the 2008 season. Martin Truex Jr. won the race in 2005, and Denny Hamlin won in 2006. For the 2007 race, the chicane was removed to increase passing opportunities down the front straight and into turn 1, and Juan Pablo Montoya from Bogotá, Colombia, won the race. Kyle Busch was the winner of the race in 2008. The A1 Grand Prix series started racing at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in the 06–07 season using the full-track configuration used by Formula One. Alex Yoong from Malaysia won the sprint race and Oliver Jarvis from the United Kingdom won the feature race. In the 07–08 season, Jonny Reid from New Zealand won the sprint race and Adam Carroll of Team Ireland won the feature race.

Palacio de los Deportes

Palacio de los Deportes is an indoor arena located in Mexico City, Mexico. It is within the sports complex Magdalena Mixhuca Sports City, near the Mexico City International Airport and in front of the Foro Sol, in which sports and artistic events are also celebrated. It is operated by Grupo CIE. The arena seats 17,800, for football and the overall capacity is approximately 20,000. It hosted the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games for the competitions of basketball and can be used to host volleyball and basketball matches. It was the home of the CBA Mexico City Aztecas in 1994 and 1995, and the Mexico Toros of the CISL in 1995. On 6 December 1997 hosted the NBAs regular season game between the Houston Rockets and the Dallas Mavericks 108-106. Another common use is to host big expositions and rock or pop concerts. There is a smaller pavilion for expositions and concerts.

Municipal Stadium

Municipal Stadium is a venue located in the Magdalena Mixhuca Sports City area of Mexico City. The venue hosted the field hockey competitions for the 1968 Summer Olympics. Olympic field-hockey games were held at the Municipal Stadium and two adjoining fields at the Magdalena Mixhuca Sports City. Built in 1964 by the Mexico City government, the open stadium has roofed grandstands on each side of the playing field. The installation covers 5.7 acres and the grandstands seat 6,160 spectators; additional temporary stands, with approximately 1,200 seats, were installed in the end zones. Rest areas for athletes, dressing rooms, showers and a cafeteria were located in a building adjacent to the stadium. The playing field was conditioned in accordance with the regulations of the International Hockey Federation.

Fernando Montes de Oca Fencing Hall

The Fernando Montes de Oca Fencing Hall is an indoor sports venue located in the Magdalena Mixhuca Sports City area of Mexico City. It hosted the fencing competitions and the fencing part of the modern pentathlon competition of the 1968 Summer Olympics. The Olympic Fencing Hall was built between November 13, 1967, and September, 1968, in the Magdalena Mixhuca Sports City. The 310-by-210-foot rectangular structure is covered by a convex roof of corrugated asbestos supported by steel cables. The ground floor had 15 fencing strips—each of which was provided with a two-sided scoreboard, a judges podium and a control table—and 37 cubicles for competitors. On the south side were facilities for the press, dressing rooms, etc. The north side housed offices, a lounge, a warm-up area and additional dressing rooms and service areas. On the upper floor were grandstands with a seating capacity of 3,000.

Foro Sol

Foro Sol is a sports and concert venue built in 1993 inside the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in eastern Mexico City. It is located 10 minutes away from the Mexico City International Airport and is operated by Grupo CIE. The venue was originally built for staging large music concerts. Initially called the Autódromo, it could accommodate up to 50,000 people. Since 2000, it has been used as a baseball stadium as well, because the only other major baseball stadium in Mexico City was demolished to build a shopping mall . It is home to the Diablos Rojos del México, a Mexican Baseball League team, and hosted Pool B of the 2009 World Baseball Classic March 8–12, 2009. Its name comes from a popular beer brand of the Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma group. Foro Sol is the second largest concert venue in Mexico City; the largest, Estadio Azteca, has a capacity of 105,064. Madonna was the first world-class act to perform at the Foro Sol on 12 November 1993, when it was still called "Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez" for her first visit to Mexico in the Girlie Show tour on 10, 12 and 13 November 1993.

Metro Pantitlán

Metro Pantitlán is a station on the Mexico City Metro. It is located in the Iztacalco borough, to the east of downtown Mexico City city centre. The architects were Aurelio Nuño Morales and Isaac Broid. The station logo is the silhouette of two flags; this is because Pantitlán means "between flags" in the Aztec language Nahuatl. Pantitlán station is the most important transfer station on the Mexico City Metro. It is the terminal for Lines 1, 5, 9 and A and has the highest user-traffic of the whole metro system. It is also one of the largest stations in the world, connecting four Metro lines, a trolleybus line (STE route Q), and around a hundred bus lines. It is the closest station to Terminal 2 of Mexico City International Airport, which is a 700 m walk away. Because of its large size and improvised design, it is important to follow the signs to the different platforms. The link with Line A allows Mexico State (Estado de México) inhabitants to travel to Mexico City faster and cheaper than by bus or other kinds of transportation. The station was opened for service along Line 5 on 19 December 1981, along Line 1 on 22 August 1984, along Line 9 on 26 August 1987, along Line A on 12 August 1991. Some curiosities are that all "numbered" Metro lines, and Line B, use pneumatic traction (rubber-tired trains) and gather electricity from a third rail; trains on Line A use traditional rail traction, and gather electricity with a pantograph, from overhead wires. In addition, scenes for the 1990 motion picture Total Recall were filmed in the corridors and platforms of Metro Pantitlán.

Metro Santa Anita

Metro Santa Anita is a station on the Mexico City Metro. Located in Mexico City's Iztacalco borough, the station is the current terminal of Line 4. The station logo depicts a man sailing a canoe. This is because in the early 20th century, in the area where the station now stands, was the Santa Anita canal – a place used for chinampa-based agriculture. Today the canal has long since vanished, but the name Santa Anita is still used by the surrounding neighbourhood. Metro Line 4 was originally projected to end in the Villa Coapa neighbourhood, in the southern borough of Coyoacán. Since the inauguration of Line B, however, no more lines have been constructed or extended, so Metro Santa Anita – and other stations, such as Metro Barranca del Muerto – officially remain provisional terminals. Metro Santa Anita is the least busy station on the Mexico City Metro, with only 621,867 passenger boardings in 2008. Metro Santa Anita was originally to be named Metro Plutarco E. Calles, in honour of President Plutarco Elías Calles, according to early plans for Line 4.
