Australian Armour and Artillery Museum

The Australian Armour and Artillery Museum is a museum dedicated to tanks, armoured vehicles and artillery from the second World war period and post war. It was officially opened in 2014, in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. The museum has purchased a number of vehicles and items for display from overseas, including some items from the Littlefield collection when it was downsized. It is the largest private collection of military vehicles in Australia, and the only major collection of vehicles in Australia, apart from the Royal Australian Armoured Corps Memorial and Army Tank Museum at Puckapunyal. It is the largest private collection of armoured vehicles and artillery in the southern hemisphere. The museums houses vehicles from a number of overseas manufacture, including vehicles from Russia, German, Japan, the UK, the US and Czechoslovakia. The collection includes a range of vehicles and artillery, some of which include a Jagdpanzer 38(t), OT-810 , M110 SPG and 155mm howitzer, Sabre, T55, M48 Patton, WWII British artillery tractor, a rare early model Stuart tank as well as a later one, Soviet artillery tractor, Churchill Mk VII, Chieftan Panzer IV Ausf D, Saladin tank and many more. The museum also has a number of German half tracks, including a Kettelgrad, a Sd.kfz 251/1 Ausf D and a Sd.Kfz. 250B. All up, it is currently home to over 100 exhibits with another 20 in various stages of restoration and transit. It also hosts two rare Australian Cruiser tanks (two of six left in the world), an AC1 Sentinel and a hybrid AC1 with an AC3 turret, presented as an AC4. The AC1 Sentinel was purchased and given to the museum by Wargaming (company), producer of the World of Tanks tank simulator. The Sentinel was in the United States at the Littlefield Collection when that collection sold off many of its vehicles, and Wargaming Inc desired to purchase it and return it to its original home. As part of the purchase, it allowed access to the tank by Wargaming, so that they could study it and replicate it accurately for their game. The Museum site also includes a 50-metre shooting gallery and a repair/restoration workshop where the vehicles which are in a state of deterioration can be restored. As of 2015, the site has expanded to house more vehicles.

Cairns Central

Cairns Central Shopping Centre in north Queensland, Australia is Cairns biggest shopping centre. The centre was opened in late 1997 and is the second multi-story shopping centre in northern Queensland. The shopping centre is built over the Cairns Railway Station, which is incorporated with the centre. Pedestrian access to the station is through the car park on the bottom floor, or a pedestrian walkway on the second floor. Construction of the shopping centre was delayed temporarily due to damage suffered from Tropical Cyclone Justin in early 1997. Cairns Central contains three department stores one supermarket and a six cinema complex. There is also a 700-seat foodcourt with stores such as Sushi Train, Noodle Box, Bucking Bull, Sumo Salad and common stores such as McDonalds, KFC, Subway and Hungry Jacks. The centre is jointly owned by Lend Lease, owners of other Australian shopping centres such as Sunshine Plaza and Canelands Central and The Westfield Group. Cairns Central as of June 2008 recorded more than $353 million in sales and boasts centre visits of 10 million a year.

Barlow Park

Barlow Park is a multi-sports facility and stadium located in Cairns. The Park is home of Cairns District Rugby League, Cairns District Rugby Union, Cairns and District Athletics Association, Australian Sports Commission Development, Oztag, the Northern Pride RLFC and the FNQ FC Heat. The ground comprises an IAAF international athletics facility, turf sports fields at the main Barlow and West Barlow parks, and a 1,700 seat grandstand with corporate and media facilities. Barlow Park has played host to international athletic events and pre-season NRL, Super Rugby and A-League matches. On 16 June 2013 the ground hosted a regular season NRL match between South Sydney Rabbitohs and Gold Coast Titans in front of a crowd of 16,118. The record attendance at the venue was set when 20,000 people attended a 2004 NRL pre-season match. On 26 April 2015, South Sydney Rabbitohs will host the Canberra Raiders in Round 8 of the NRL Premiership here.
