Hager House

The Hager House is a two-story stone house in Hagerstown, Maryland, United States that dates to circa 1740. The house was built by Jonathan Hager, a German immigrant from Westphalia, who founded Hagerstown. The basement contains two spring-fed pools of water, providing a secure water source. Hager sold the property, then known as Hagers Fancy to Jacob Rohrer. The house remained in the Rohrer family until 1944, when it was acquired by the Washington County Historical Society. The restored house was given to the City of Hagerstown in 1954 and opened to the public in 1962 as a historic house museum. The Hager House is located off Key Street in Hagerstown City Park, and is open for visits from April through December.

It is a 2 1/2-story, brick Neoclassical-style townhouse that rests on a high-cut stone foundation, and was built about 1820. Wilson's Bridge

Wilsons Bridge is a bridge near Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland, United States. It originally carried the Hagerstown and Conococheague Turnpike, the National Road, across Conococheague Creek 7 miles west of Hagerstown. The five-arched structure, the longest of the countys stone bridges, is 210 feet in length and is constructed of coursed local limestone. The bridge was erected in 1819 by Silas Harry, who had built similar bridges in Pennsylvania. The bridge was closed in June 1972 when it was damaged by floods which occurred during Tropical Storm Agnes. Wilsons Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Dorsey-Palmer House

The Dorsey-Palmer House is a historic home located near Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland, United States. It was built about 1800, and is a two-story, five-bay fieldstone dwelling with a two-story, four-bay rear wing. The house features a double porch extending across the front elevation and large transoms over entrances on the front. The Dorsey-Palmer House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Also in the district are the Washington County Courthouse and the City Hall. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

It is a two-story red brick structure with white trim and decorative work in brownstone, constructed in 1872 in the Italianate style. The building features a central tower on the front façade above the main entrance and a coursed limestone foundation from an earlier courthouse which burned. It also has a mansard roof covered with shingles. The annex was built in 1963. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

It is a two story Neo-Georgian stone masonry structure of monumental proportions, built 1900-01. The building appears to be one huge story from the façade. The building was designed by the noted late 19th-century American architect Bruce Price and erected for the Washington County Free Library. It was used by the library until 1965. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Maryland Theatre

The Maryland Theatre is a music and entertainment venue located in the Arts and Entertainment District of downtown Hagerstown, Maryland. It was built in 1915, partially destroyed by fire in 1974, and reopened in 1978. The theatre's seating capacity is 1,300 people, and it hosts performances of orchestra concerts, country artists, comedians, children's shows, musicians, recitals, stage shows, and others. Over 81,000 patrons attended performances at the Maryland Theatre in 2005, making it one of Maryland's premier venues for the performing arts. The Maryland Symphony Orchestra performs here regularly. The theater features a fully restored Wurlitzer theatre organ.

The district contains the downtown commercial and governmental center as well as several surrounding urban residential neighborhoods and industrial areas. It includes the original plat of Hagerstown, laid out in the 1760s, as well as areas of expansion that developed generally prior to or just after the turn of the 20th century. Some 2,500 Confederate dead lie in Rose Hill Cemetery on South Potomac Street, most of whom died at the Battle of Antietam. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Lehman's Mill Historic District

Lehman's Mill Historic District is a national historic district at Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland, United States. The district comprises the remaining buildings of the mill group including the brick Lehman's Mill, built in 1869 for Henry F. Lehman, the farmstead with a stuccoed stone house dated 1837 with older and newer sections, a barn, carriage house, and agricultural outbuildings; another dwelling, also built by Lehman in 1877, a two-story brick and frame house; related outbuildings, and a portion of the mill's head and tail race. It is the oldest continuously operating mill in Washington County, and is the most intact mill complex remaining in the county. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

Leitersburg Historic District

Leitersburg Historic District is a national historic district at Leitersburg, Washington County, Maryland, United States. The district is centered on this early-19th century village. The village square retains three original early 19th century brick buildings, a tavern, general store, and dwelling; as well as a late-19th century wooden frame grocery store / meeting hall. Most of the original 30 log buildings, somewhat altered, remain. The village contains a cohesive collection of architectural resources reflecting a wide variety of vernacular types and popular expressions dating from the early 19th century through the early 20th century. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

South Prospect Street Historic District

South Prospect Street Historic District is a national historic district at Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland, United States. The district is a 19th and early 20th century residential neighborhood which was once the address of many of Hagerstown's leading citizens. The street is lined with more than 50 structures representing America's varied and strong architectural heritage and includes both domestic and ecclesiastical buildings, such as Saint John's Church and the Presbyterian Church. The architectural styles represented range from the Neoclassical of the early 19th century to the classical revivals of the early 20th century. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

South Mountain State Park

South Mountain State Park is a state park in Washington and Frederick counties in Maryland. The park encompasses nearly the entire length of South Mountain through Maryland and is contiguous with several other national, state and local parks on the mountain, including the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park, Gathland State Park, Washington Monument State Park, Greenbrier State Park and Pen Mar County Park . Marylands 40-mile section of the Appalachian Trail traverses the length of the park. The park also contains part of the South Mountain Battlefield. Rose Hill Cemetery

Rose Hill Cemetery, located in Hagerstown, Maryland, is the oldest public cemetery in Washington County Maryland. The cemetery features over 102 acres of burial space and is the final resting place of over 43,000 individuals. The cemetery was established on land originally granted to the Wroe family by King George III in the 1700s. Dr. John A. Wroe and his wife purchased the land. Their home was on a hill called Wroe's Hill. In 1865, William T. Hamilton and a group of individuals established the Hagerstown Cemetery Association and in 1866 purchased land needed to establish the area's first public cemetery and chartered the cemetery as Rose Hill Cemetery of Hagerstown.

The houses are generally Colonial or Georgian revival in stylistic influences. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

Washington Confederate Cemetery

The Washington Confederate Cemetery is a Confederate Cemetery in Hagerstown, Maryland. Its burials include Confederate dead from such nearby battles as Antietam, Gettysburg, Monocacy and South Mountain. Less than 20 percent of its burials are identified. It was established in 1871 as a section of the Rose Hill Cemetery .

Western Maryland Railway Station

Western Maryland Railway Station is a historic railway station in Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland. It was built in 1913 as a stop for the Western Maryland Railway. It is a 2 1⁄2-story hip roof brick building, reflecting the influence of the Commercial Style of the early 20th century. The building features overscaled Classical detailing, a stone foundation, and a massive, modillioned cornice with stone disks defining each bay. The building is also encircled by a one-story porch that has a cantilevered roof on three sides. The Western Maryland Railway ended passenger train service to the Hagerstown station in June 1957. The station was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. The building is now used as the headquarters of the Hagerstown Police Department.

Western Maryland 202 is a retired 4-6-2 steam locomotive displayed in City Park, Hagerstown, Maryland. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. 202 was cosmetically restored in 2008.

St. John's Lutheran Church

St. John's Lutheran Church, founded in 1770, is a historic Lutheran church located at 141 South Potomac Street in the South end of the Arts and Entertainment District of Hagerstown, Maryland.

Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum

The Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum located at 300 South Burhans Boulevard, Hagerstown, Maryland, USA, has exhibits relating to local railroad history and model railroads. The Hagerstown Roundhouse Complex was built in 1939. The 25 stall roundhouse and shops were the major facility for maintenance and repairs of locomotives and cars in Western Maryland. The railroads were the largest employers in Washington County for more than 50 years. The Roundhouse facility was demolished on March 13, 1999.

Discovery Station

Discovery Station, located at the corner of Summit Avenue and West Washington Street in downtown Hagerstown, Maryland, United States, is a hands-on learning environment. The museum features science, technology, space exploration, history, geology, health, agricultural and transportation exhibits in galleries and display areas, including the Hagerstown Aviation Museum and the Betty Clopper Early Childhood Gallery. Discovery Station also occasionally features galleries from the Smithsonian Institution. The museum is located in a historic bank building across from the Washington County Courthouse. The original bank housed the Federal Depository during the Civil War. Visitors can enter the main vault and examine its mammoth leaded glass door and mechanisms. With its white marble exterior and soaring palladium windows, the building is one of the most architecturally significant in downtown Hagerstown. Discovery Station is especially popular with children and is frequently visited by students on field trips from schools throughout the surrounding Four-State region.

Hagerstown Community College

Hagerstown Community College was founded in 1946 as Maryland’s first community college. More than 100 programs of study are available for university transfer, career preparation, or personal development, as well as non-credit continuing education courses, customized training programs and Washington County’s adult education program. Associate degrees, certificates and letters of recognition are awarded. HCC is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Special programs include the Job Training Student Resources for adults in need of immediate job skills and the ESSENCE Program, which enables area high school students to take college classes at a discounted rate. The 319-acre picturesque campus encompasses 18 buildings and includes a full-service business incubator, numerous gardens and an outdoor amphitheater. Recent Developments: In 2012-2013, HCC renovated three instructional buildings and completed construction on a brand new Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Building. The five-story STEM Building houses all of HCC’s STEM programs including biotechnology, alternative energy, cybersecurity, and many others. It includes sophisticated laboratories, classrooms, and faculty offices, and features several green components including a rainwater harvesting system, solar panels, and two green roofs. HCC’s Kepler Theater was expanded to include the addition of a Performing and Visual Arts Education Center, which features a dance studio/black box theater, campus gallery, classrooms, music practice rooms, art rooms, and faculty offices. The theater itself was also renovated and now includes expanded dressing rooms, a costume shop, and extended wardrobe storage. First built in 1966, the existing Classroom Building and the former Science Building were renovated in 2013. The Classroom Building became the Behavioral Sciences and Humanities Building and now houses classrooms, faculty office, and the new Fletcher Faculty Development Center. The former Science Building was renamed the Learning Support Center in honor of its new function: the central location for HCC’s developmental education programs and tutoring services. The LSC offers drop-in student tutoring on a variety of subjects including science, math, English, and computers.
