Pleasure Beach

Pleasure Beach is the Bridgeport portion of a Connecticut barrier beach that extends 2-1/2 miles westerly from Point No Point . Prior to June, 2014, when Pleasure Beach re-opened, the area was Connecticuts largest and most recent ghost town and abandoned recently in the late 1990s after a fire on the bridge connecting it to the mainland. It is surrounded on three sides by water .

Bridgeport City Hall

The old Bridgeport City Hall is located in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The building was built in 1854 as both the City Hall and the Fairfield County Courthouse and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 19, 1977. The old city hall was renamed McLevy Hall after Bridgeport mayor, Jasper McLevy in 1966.

Beardsley Zoo

The Beardsley Zoo, located in Bridgeport, Connecticut, is the only zoo in the state of Connecticut. It includes one of the few carousels in the state.

Nathaniel Wheeler Memorial Fountain

The Nathaniel Wheeler Memorial Fountain is located in Bridgeport, Connecticut at the intersection of Fairfield and Park avenues. The fountain was built in 1912–1913 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 4, 1985. The fountain consists of four elements: a central bronze figure of a mermaid holding aloft a lamp and rising out of a polished granite pool and three individually ornamented polished granite watering troughs at the angles of the triangular parcel of land raised above the street. The fountain was a mid-career work of maverick American sculptor Gutzon Borglum.

Webster Bank Arena

The Webster Bank Arena is a 10,000-seat multi-purpose arena at 600 Main Street in Bridgeport, Connecticut, built alongside The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The Arena opened on October 10, 2001 and is managed by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and Centerplate. Webster Bank entered into a 10-year $3.5 million agreement with the City of Bridgeport for naming rights of the Arena on January 6, 2011. The Arena houses 33 executive suites, 1,300 club seats, 3 large hospitality suites, along with wide concourses with ample guest amenities to bring all guests up close, and also a recently added Sony Jumbotron serving as a scoreboard which stands 30x16 ft., with six-millimeter pixels, and offers a Sony HD system to increase visibility. In addition, the Webster Bank Arena offers Luxury boxes to corporate sponsors, which presently include; Mercedes-Benz of Bridgeport. The first event at the Arena was a Bridgeport Sound Tigers game on October 10, 2001. The first act to come to the Arena was the Ringling Bros. and Barnum Bailey Circus, opening at the venue on October 24, 2001 and the 1,000th event held at the Arena was a Fairfield Stags mens basketball game on January 30, 2010. The Arena attracts half a million visitors each year for a wide variety of exciting events, including concerts by world-famous musicians, entertainment spectaculars, professional sports, World Wrestling Entertainment events, special events, trade shows, conventions and more. The Arena is home to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League and the Fairfield Stags mens and womens college basketball teams of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference . Starting in 2013, the Arena hosted regular season Connecticut Huskies Mens and Womens Basketball games. The presence of UConn is expected to continue with the UConn Mens Hockey team, a new member of Hockey East, also scheduled to play 5 regular season games in Bridgeport during the 2014-15 season.

Tongue Point Light

Tongue Point Light Lighthouse, also known as Bridgeport Breakwater or Bug Light, is a lighthouse on the west side of the Bridgeport Harbor entrance, in the city of Bridgeport, Connecticut in the United States. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Klein Memorial Auditorium

The Klein Memorial Auditorium is a 1400 seat proscenium theater located at 910 Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport, CT. The venue was built with funds willed to the city by Bridgeport native Jacob Klein , a lawyer and active supporter of Bridgeport community organizations. The auditorium, designed by local architect Leonard Asheim, was built in the Art Deco style and features bronze doors, a marble lobby, inlaid wood and geometric motifs. After opening its doors in 1940, the Klein hosted such luminaries as Leonard Bernstein, Arthur Fiedler, Eleanor Roosevelt, Martin Luther King Jr., Paul Robeson, Milton Berle, Victor Borge and Bill Cosby. More recently The Klein has hosted such diverse musical acts as Alice Cooper, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Boz Scaggs, Herbie Hancock, Ziggy Marley, George Carlin, Peter Frampton, Boyz II Men, the B-52s, and the Parris Island Marine Band. In addition to its history as a first-rate concert venue, The Klein is proud to support and host local arts and community organizations. Local dance recitals, graduations, and union meetings occur regularly at the Klein, and the theater has been the home of the Greater Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra for the past 60 years. Other companies currently in residence include the New England Ballet Company, Fairfield County Children’s Choir, Greater Bridgeport Youth Symphony, and Fairfield Theater Company. United Congregational Church

The United Congregational Church is a historic church building at 877 Park Avenue in Bridgeport, Connecticut It is a large brick Georgian Revival structure designed by architects Allen & Collens and built in 1925-26 for a congregation with nearly 300 years of history. It has a projecting tetrastyle gable-pedimented portico, supported by four monumental Doric columns. The tower is a multi-stage structure, beginning with a square brick section housing a clock. Above this the tower becomes wooden, with a segmented-arch cornice topped by a louvered octagonal belfry. Two more octagonal stages rise above, stepped back in size, but with similar colonettes and cornices, with a six-sided spire at the very top. The building was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Immaculate Heart of Mary Church

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport is located in the southwestern part of the state of Connecticut, and its boundaries are the same as that of Fairfield County, Connecticut. There are 82 parishes in the diocese. Its cathedral is St. Augustine in Bridgeport. As of September 19, 2013, the diocese is led by Bishop Frank Joseph Caggiano. He succeeds William E. Lori, appointed March 19, 2001, who served until 2012, when he was installed as Archbishop of Baltimore. The diocese was led by Msgr. Jerald A. Doyle as Diocesan Administrator until Caggiano, named by Pope Francis on July 31, 2013, was installed as bishop on September 19, 2013.

Hotel Beach

The Hotel Beach, also known historically as the Hotel Barnum, is a historic hotel building at 140 Fairfield Ave. in Bridgeport, Connecticut. It is a thirteen-story Art Deco tower built in 1927 and designed by Thomas, Martin & Kirkpatrick. It has a steel frame clad in colored bricks of various colors, laid predominantly in a broken Flemish bond pattern, and is one of the city's outstanding Art Deco buildings. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. It is a contributing building in the Bridgeport Downtown North Historic District, NRHP-listed in 1987. It is currently a residential apartment building called Barnum House.

Bridgeport Downtown South Historic District

The Bridgeport Downtown South Historic District is a 27-acre historic district in Bridgeport, Connecticut that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. The district is roughly bordered on the east by Main and Middle Streets, on the north by Elm Street, the west by Broad Street, and the south by Cesar Batalla Way. It includes 50 contributing buildings and 12 non-contributing buildings. The district includes one building, 149-165 State Street, designed by noted architect Cass Gilbert. Other notable buildings include the separately-listed Barnum Museum, Sterling Block-Bishop Arcade and United Illuminating Company Building, as well as McLevy Hall, the former city hall and county courthouse.

Achavath Achim Synagogue

Achavath Achim Synagogue is located at 725 Hancock Avenue in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The building was built in 1926 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 11, 1995 as West End Congregation--Achavath Achim Synagogue. The building is a rare example in Bridgeport of a Colonial Revival house of worship containing details such as a portico with fluted columns and round arch stained-glass windows. Bridgeport architect Leonard Asheim designed many municipal and ecclesiastical buildings from 1910 to 1940.

Sterling Hill Historic District

The Sterling Hill Historic District in Bridgeport, Connecticut is a historic district that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. The district is a two-block area of 43 urban residential structures dating as far back as 1821. Most of the buildings are from later in the 19th century when the neighborhood was largely occupied by Irish working-class residents. Most of the early buildings are vernacular wood-frame structures with modest Federal, Greek Revival, or Gothic Revival details, while the later additions include multiunit tenement-style buildings. The area includes to oldest urbanized part of the city.

Peyton Randolph Bishop House

The Peyton Randolph Bishop House is a historic house at 135 Washington Avenue in Bridgeport, Connecticut. It is a three story brick structure, three bays wide, with a side entrance, single-story front porch, and a mansard roof. A 1-1/2 story ell extends to the rear of the main block. The building has the basic footprint of a Greek Revival style house typical of its construction period in 1839, but it later received extensive Victorian renovations, including the mansard roof. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. It is one of the few surviving residential structures in the city's urban core.

Fairfield County Courthouse

The Fairfield County Courthouse, also known as the Court of Common Pleas, is located at 172 Golden Hill Street in downtown Bridgeport, Connecticut. It is a Richardsonian Romanesque brick building built in 1888. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Bassickville Historic District

Bassickville Historic District is a historic district in Bridgeport, Connecticut that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. It then included 38 contributing buildings. It consists of most of the area of a "generally well-preserved" housing development that was built during 1883-1885. The development was planned and developed by Edmund C. Bassick, an entrepreneur who moved to Bridgeport from Chicago in 1880. The mostly one family wood-framed "Stick-style" cottages were built as rental units and contained details such as bay windows and gabled roofs.

Black Rock Gardens Historic District

The Black Rock Gardens Historic District is a historic district in the Black Rock neighborhood of Bridgeport, Connecticut. It consists of 12 three-story red brick Colonial Revival buildings, clustered on Fairfield Avenue, Nash Lane, and Haddon Street, and set around small quadrangle-like parks. The complex was built between 1916 and 1920 by the U.S. Housing Corporation to provide war-time emergency housing for workers in war-related factories, during World War I. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Bikur Cholim Synagogue

The building which housed Bikur Cholim Synagogue on Iranistan Avenue in Bridgeport, Connecticut, was built in 1894 as the home of South Congregational Church Mission, and was used by that church until 1907. It has housed First Christian Church , Congregation Rodeph Sholom (which used the building from 1923 until 1949 when the congregation move to Capitol Avenue), Congregation Bikur Cholim (which used the building until the congregation moved to Capitol Avenue in 1989), and Metamorphosis an interior decorating design business (until 1993). The building is now the home of Ephraim French Speaking Seventh Day Adventist Church. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. It is unusual as an example of Shingle Style architecture applied for a religious building; Shingle Style was primarily used for residences, often ocean-side residences.

Black Rock Historic District

The Black Rock Historic District is a predominantly residential historic district in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, Connecticut. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. At that time it included 109 contributing buildings. The historic district surrounds at the upper reaches of Black Rock Harbor. Black Rock was settled in 1644, and developed as a major shipping and trading center in the 1760s after a direct road connection to Fairfield Center was completed. It was the third largest port in Connecticut at the time of the American Revolutionary War, and became the official Port of Entry for Fairfield County in 1790. The village was originally part of Fairfield before being annexed to Bridgeport in 1870. By that time the port had declined in importance. In subsequent years the once-rural village was gradually incorporated into the city's urban fabric. That portion of the district to the south of Bartram Avenue is also a City of Bridgeport Local Historic District, where changes to a building's exterior that are visible from a public right-of-way must receive a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Historic District Commission. The district includes the Thomas Wheeler Sr. House , considered the fourth-oldest house in Connecticut, at 266 Brewster Street. Other important structures include the Gershom Sturges/Benjamin Penfield House at 105 Beacon Street, an example of the Greek Revival style; the Wolcott Chauncey House at 150 Seabright Avenue , an example of a Colonial "Cape" house and birthplace of Commodore Isaac Chauncey; the Captain William Hall House at 87 Ellsworth Street , a Gothic-Italianate villa in the "Hudson River Bracketed" mode and home to a major shipyard owner; and the Gould Brothers House at 119-21 Seabright Avenue , a double-house built in the French Second Empire style for two building contractors.

Black Rock Harbor

Black Rock Harbor is located in Bridgeport, Connecticut on Long Island Sound. The Black Rock Harbor Light on Fayerweather Island marks the entrance to the harbor on its east, while St. Mary's by the Sea forms its western beachhead. Seaside Park runs along the northeastern part of the harbor. The harbor is the mouth of Cedar Creek. It is a protected harbor that developed as a trade port and shipbuilding center in the 18th century. It is now primarily a recreational harbor, having been superseded by the Bridgeport Harbor, which was enlarged by substantial breakwaters in 1907. St. Mary's by the Sea is a residential walkway along Long Island Sound. There are plenty of things for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy at Saint Mary’s by the Sea. Bring binoculars to watch the birds and wildlife at this site. There are walkways for power walkers or those looking for a leisurely stroll. The site also holds historic and cultural interest for visitors to explore. Adjacent to the harbor there is also the neighborhood of Bridgeport also called Black Rock.

The Barnum Museum is a museum at 805 Main Street in Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA. It has an extensive collection related to P. T. Barnum and the history of Bridgeport, and is housed in a historic building on the National Register of Historic Places.

John F. Kennedy Stadium

John F. Kennedy Stadium is a 12,000-seat lighted stadium located at Central High School in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The stadium is designed for use for football, soccer, lacrosse games and track and field meets. The stadium was built along with the current high school, which was completed in 1964, and named for the recently assassinated President John F. Kennedy. In addition to being home to the CHS Hilltoppers, it was home to the University of Bridgeports football program until it was disbanded in 1975. In recent years, the stadium served as the site of the Eastern Marching Band Association and Musical Arts Conference marching band field show finals in early November, as well as the home field for the Connecticut Hurricanes Drum and Bugle Corps, both having moved there in 2000 after several years at West Haven High Schools stadium. In 2001, the stadium was the host to the first Major League Lacrosse championship weekend.

Berkshire No. 7

Berkshire No. 7 is a wood and steel barge constructed in 1935. It is historically important as a transitional canal barge and as one of the few surviving wooden-hulled canal boats. It was used to transport bulk cargo, including shipping fertilizer, from Connecticut to Long Island Sound. It sank in 1974 along with the Elmer S. Dailey and the Priscilla Dailey. The sunken vessel has deteriorated to the point that a salvage operation could result in breaking it apart. The Berkshire No. 7 was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 21, 1978.

Elmer S. Dailey

Elmer S. Dailey, originally known as the Claire B. Follette, is a wooden barge built by William H. Follette in 1915 at Tonawanda, New York, and rebuilt and renamed in 1928 by Brown Drydock on Staten Island, New York. It was used to transport materials from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. It is the only known surviving Erie Canal boat and is one of a few remaining wooden-hulled canal boats. It sank in 1974 along with the Priscilla Dailey and the Berkshire No. 7, and has deteriorated to the point that a salvage operation could result in it breaking apart. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 21, 1978.

Priscilla Dailey, previously known as the Elizabeth E. Newell, is a wooden canal boat constructed in 1929 in Whitehall, New York. The barge was used to transport bulk cargo in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut harbors. It sunk in 1974 along with the Elmer S. Dailey and the Berkshire No. 7. The sunken boat has deteriorated to the point that a salvage operation could result in it breaking apart. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 21, 1978.

Mary and Eliza Freeman Houses

The Mary and Eliza Freeman Houses are historic residences at 352-4 and 358-60 Main Street in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The simple, clapboard-covered dwellings were built in 1848 in what became known as Little Liberia, a neighborhood settled by free blacks starting in the first quarter of the nineteenth century. As the last surviving houses of this neighborhood on their original foundations, these were added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 22, 1999. The houses are the oldest remaining houses in Connecticut built by free blacks, before the state completed its gradual abolition of slavery in 1848. The homes and nearby Walter's Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church are also listed sites on the Connecticut Freedom Trail.
