Hyattsville Armory

The Hyattsville Armory is a historic National Guard armory built in 1918 and located in Hyattsville, Prince Georges County, Maryland, United States. It was the first Armory built in Prince Georges County and the fifth in Maryland. Its architect, Robert Lawrence Harris, served as State Architect under Governor Albert C. Ritchie. In this capacity, Harris supervised the design of similar armories in Salisbury, Kensington, Silver Spring, Hagerstown, Laurel, Easton, Crisfield, Pocomoke City, Centreville, and Cumberland. The structure is distinctly fortresslike and offers a commanding view of the surrounding area. The building is patterned after a medieval English castle and built of native stone, with rectangular turrets flanking the arched limestone entranceway. Carved above the entry is the State Seal of Maryland. The Hyattsville Armory was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Langley Park

Langley Park, also known as McCormick-Goodhart Mansion, is a Georgian Revival style estate mansion in Langley Park, Prince George's County, Maryland. In 1924, the McCormick-Goodhart family erected an 18,000-square-foot , 28-room Georgian Revival mansion, designed by architect George Oakley Totten, Jr., at a cost of $100,000 that remains a community landmark on 15th Ave. "Langley Park" references the 540-acre estate established in 1923, by the McCormick-Goodhart family in the Chillum District of Prince George's County, Maryland. They named the estate Langley Park after the Goodhart's ancestral home in England, Langley Fields. Frederick Goodheart's wife was Henrietta Laura McCormick, daughter of Leander J. McCormick who was a founder of what became International Harvester. The estate also included the local historic landmark, the Adelphi Mill. During the late-1940s and early 1950s the estate was subdivided and developed as a planned community containing low-rise apartments, semi-detached and single family homes; and a major regional shopping area. It was acquired in 1947 from the McCormick-Goodhart family by the Eudist Order for use as a seminary. The seminary operated until 1963. The mansion then operated until the early 1990s as Willowbrook Montessori School. The mansion reopened in 2010 after a $13.8 million project as a multicultural service center operated by CASA of Maryland. This property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 29, 2008. It is the ninth property listed as a featured property of the week in a program of the National Park Service that began in July 2008.

Mount Hope

Mount Hope is located at 1 Cheverly Circle in the town of Cheverly, Prince George's County, Maryland. The plantation house is a two-story, five-bay frame house built in several stages. The three-bay west section was built about 1834, and included an earlier overseer's cabin, c. 1782, with a two-bay "new addition" to the east in the 1860s, after the Civil War. A one-story kitchen wing appears to date from the 1830s as well, building on earlier foundations. A broad front porch was added in the early 20th century along with a 3-bay garage and screened porch (which housed the town's Delco Power Plant). The home was built by Fielder Magruder, Jr., member of the prominent Magruder family who first settled in Maryland in 1652. Part of the house sits on the stone foundations of an earlier structure. The earlier component is contemporary with an outbuilding c. 1782 which also remain on the property. The town of Cheverly occupies much of the original 716-acre tobacco plantation of Fielder Magruder, Jr. The house is the town symbol, appearing on the official town seal and town flag. The house was renovated from 1919 to 1922, as the home and office of Robert Marshall, founder of Cheverly. He lived there until 1929. Cheverly's first mayor owned Mount Hope from 1941 to 1977. It has been the Town’s official symbol since 1931. The property was extensively restored in 1985 and 2005 by the current owners, Drs. Elizabeth Tuckermanty and Dale Manty. Historical myths abound regarding a number of events at Mount Hope over its approximately 232 years as a residence. These include British troops allegedly stopping at the Magruder Spring on the plantation on August 24, 1814 en route to the armed resistance at the Battle of Bladensburg and burning of Washington. And there is the case of a young nephew Magruder, lieutenant in the CSA, mortally wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg, transported by buckboard to his aunt and uncle's house where he died a fortnight after arriving. The mythical ghost of a young woman associate of Lieutenant Magruder, with a wry sense of humor, occasionally visits Mount Hope.

University Park Historic District

The University Park Historic District is a national historic district located at the town of University Park, Prince George's County, Maryland. The district encompasses 1,149 contributing buildings and 2 contributing sites and is almost exclusively residential and developed as a middle-class, automobile suburb of Washington, D.C.. The primary building type is the detached single-family dwelling, with the only non-residential buildings within the district and the town being two churches and the Town Hall, which is located in a former residence. Notable features within the district include the property's original plantation house, known as Bloomfield , and the nearby family cemetery. It was developed over the period 1920 to 1945, and houses are built in a range of popular early-20th-century architectural styles including Tudor and Mediterranean Revival, and varied interpretations of the Craftsman Aesthetic and the Colonial Revival, including interpretations of Dutch, Georgian, and Federal period substyles. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996, with a boundary increase in 2012.

Hyattsville Historic District

The Hyattsville Historic District is a residential neighborhood comprising a national historic district located in the city of Hyattsville, Prince George's County, Maryland. The district comprises approximately 600 structures, primarily houses, that exhibit late-19th and early-20th century design characteristics. The majority of residential buildings are of frame construction, the older ones with foundations of brick or fieldstone, the newer of concrete. The architectural styles represented: grand "mansions," summer cottages, duplexes, Second Empire, Queen Anne, Italianate, Victorian, Bungalow, and Spanish. The area also includes numerous vernacular buildings. The finest concentration of late-19th century structures occur in the area of Farragut, Gallatin, and Hamilton streets and 42nd Avenue. The early-20th century hipped-roof style and bungalows are found throughout the district. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The district was expanded in 2004.

Ridgley Methodist Episcopal Church

Ridgley Methodist Episcopal Church, constructed in 1921, is a one-story frame church on the north side of Central Avenue in Landover, Prince George's County, Maryland. The church was founded in 1871 and a cemetery begun in 1892. It served as the spiritual and social center of the formerly rural African American farming community of Ridgley. The gable-front church consists of a 1921 block on the south and a small 1940s extension on the north. The church was moved from its original location to its current location in 1990. In 2002, the church suffered a fire that destroyed the original plaster. The cemetery has about 20 mostly hand carved gravestones with flower and vine motif, arranged in orderly rows and grouped by families. The stones date from the 1910s to the 1940s. It is currently home to New Rock Church. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

College Heights Estates Historic District

The College Heights Estates Historic District encompasses 170 contributing buildings in a mid-20th century automobile-centered residential suburban area of University Park, Maryland, and the neighboring unincorporated area of College Heights Estates in Prince George's County. The earliest portions of the area were platted out in 1938, and the area was mostly built out between then and 1960. The area features winding lanes and dead-end roads, with large houses on generously sized lots. Houses built before the Second World War are predominantly Colonial Revival in character, while post-war construction includes a large number of ranch, split-entry, and Cape style houses, although they are generally larger than other similar houses built in other neighborhoods. Also distinguishing the neighborhood from others are a significant number of architect-designed homes. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

The University of Maryland University College is an American public university located in Adelphi in Prince George's County, Maryland in the United States. UMUC offers classes and programs on campus in its Academic Center in Largo, and at satellite campuses across the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area, throughout Maryland, as well as in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. UMUC serves over 90,000 students worldwide and is one of the largest distance learning institutions in the world. UMUC is open to all applicants with a 100 percent acceptance rate for undergraduate programs. The university offers 120 academic programs in instructor-led and online classes, including bachelor, masters, and doctoral degrees as well as undergraduate and graduate certificates. UMUC is a member of the University System of Maryland, which includes eleven separate public universities in Maryland.

The Mall at Prince Georges

The Mall at Prince Georges is an enclosed regional shopping mall located in Hyattsville, Maryland, at the intersection of Belcrest Road and East-West Highway . It is served by a Washington Metro station, Prince George's Plaza, which shares the mall's former name. This station is on the Green Line. Located across Belcrest Road from the Mall is the University Town Center mixed-use development. It is currently managed by the Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust, also known as PREIT. The Mall at Prince Georges is anchored by Macy's, JC Penney, and Target, with minor anchors Old Navy, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Ross Dress for Less. The mall features a mix of local and national retailers, including The Children's Place, Victoria's Secret, Foot Locker, Lane Bryant, and Bath & Body Works. Dining options include a food court and Outback Steakhouse and Olive Garden, both located in the mall parking lot.
