Colorado State University

Colorado State University (also referred to as Colorado State and CSU) is a public research university located in Fort Collins, in the U.S. state of Colorado. The university is the state's land grant university, and the flagship university of the Colorado State University System. The current enrollment is approximately 32,236 students, including resident and non-resident instruction students and the University is planning on having 35,000 students by 2020. The university has approximately 1,540 faculty in eight colleges and 55 academic departments. Bachelor's degrees are offered in 65 fields of study, with master's degrees in 55 fields. Colorado State confers doctoral degrees in 40 fields of study, in addition to a professional degree in veterinary medicine. In fiscal year 2012, CSU spent $375.9 million on research and development, ranking 60th in the nation overall and 34th when excluding medical school spending.

Dixon Canyon Dam

Horsetooth Reservoir (often known locally as Horsetooth) is a large reservoir in southern Larimer County, Colorado, just west of the city of Fort Collins, Colorado. The reservoir sits in the foothills above the town on the western side of the Dakota Hogback, which contains the reservoir along its eastern side. The reservoir runs north-south for approximately 6.5 miles (10 km) and is approximately one-half mile (1 km) wide. It was constructed in 1949 by the Bureau of Reclamation as part of its federal Colorado-Big Thompson Project or "C-BT." Water distribution is currently managed by the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District and Bureau of Reclamation. Horsetooth and Carter Lake serve as the two principal containers for water diverted eastward under the continental divide via the C-BT. The reservoir is a supplementary source of municipal water for Fort Collins and other communities in the region, as well as for irrigation in the South Platte River valley. The reservoir takes its name from Horsetooth Mountain, a summit in the foothills west of the southern end of the reservoir.

Grandview Cemetery

Grandview Cemetery is a cemetery in Fort Collins, Larimer County, Colorado. The land for the cemetery was purchased in 1887; at the time it was west of the city limits of Fort Collins. Mountain Home Cemetery had been used prior to this, but it was closer to town, and with the population of Fort Collins rapidly expanding it was deemed necessary to find another location farther from town. The remains buried at Mountain Home were gradually transferred to Grandview beginning in late 1887 or early 1888 and by the 1920s the site of the former cemetery at Mountain Home had been converted to a playground. The first interment at Grandview took place on November 21, 1887, when a three-month-old infant named Felix Scoville was buried there. As of 2009 Grandview consisted of approximately 45 acres development, 34,000 grave spaces, 70 crypts, 336 niches, and over 22,000 burials.

Fort Collins Lincoln Center

Situated in the heart of Fort Collins, the Lincoln Center is the premier multi-venue performing and visual arts center in Northern Colorado. It was founded in 1978 through a community initiative called “Designing Tomorrow Today” that resulted in a voter approved $2.2 million capital improvements tax with the community raising an additional $300,000 to complete a new performing and visual arts center for Fort Collins. Today, the Lincoln Center is one of Colorado’s largest and most diverse presenters of professional theatre, dance, music, visual arts, and children’s programs. It is the largest Northern Colorado presenter of nationally touring Broadway musicals, big name acts, music and comedy, family events, and dance. In addition, our community partners such as OpenStage Theatre, Canyon Concert Ballet, Larimer Chorale, The Fort Collins Symphony and Debut Theater help make the Lincoln Center a frequent gathering place for families and arts and culture lovers alike. Following an $8.4 renovation in 2010, the Lincoln Center is refreshed, renewed and remarkable! The renovation and expansion focused on improving the patron experience, performer amenities, and infusing new life into this community treasure. Community members throughout Northern Colorado have been flocking to see the “new” Lincoln Center, which now features elegant and expanded lobbies, a new Rooftop Deck, several new and inviting bar spaces, a beautiful new Art Gallery and a start-of-the-art sound system.

Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium

Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium is an outdoor football stadium in Fort Collins, Colorado; on the campus of Colorado State University. It is the home field of the Colorado State Rams of the Mountain West Conference. Hughes Stadium opened in 1968 on the west edge of Fort Collins, four miles west of the school's main campus. It replaced the old Colorado Field, a 12,000-seat on-campus stadium. Hughes Stadium sits in a natural oval bowl, with seating on three sides and an open grass berm behind the south endzone. The west stands are expanded out of the bowl and capped by a press box. The stadium is named for Harry W. Hughes, the head coach for 31 seasons at what was then known as Colorado Agricultural. The playing surface itself was named in 2003 in honor of then head coach Sonny Lubick. The winningest coach in school history, Lubick led the Rams for 15 seasons , winning six conference titles and nine bowl games. The stadium has a seating capacity of 32,500 with club seats and 12 luxury suites, completed in 2005. The playing field, at an elevation of 5,190 feet above sea level, was natural grass for the stadium's first 38 seasons; FieldTurf was installed in the summer of 2006. The first game at Hughes Stadium was played on September 28, 1968, a 17-12 loss to North Texas State, led by Mean Joe Greene. From October 1989 to August 1991, the Rams won eight consecutive games at the stadium, a school record. Bob Dylan recorded the NBC television special and live concert album Hard Rain at Hughes Stadium during a rainstorm in May 1976. This college stadium is one of the few in the nation that serves beer to spectators of legal age during football games.

Colorado State Stadium

Colorado State Stadium is a stadium under construction at Colorado State University. After a nearly 2-year process including cost and financing changes, protests, community outreach, and an inter-governmental agreement with the city of Fort Collins, the $220 million 41,000 capacity on campus multi-purpose stadium began construction in May 2015. In 2013, the university began raising funds for a ~40,000-seat on-campus facility to replace Hughes Stadium. The project was partially driven by major decreases in state funding for CSU in recent decades. As a result, CSU has been seeking to draw more out-of-state students, whose current tuition is three times that of Colorado residents. CSU president Tony Frank included the new stadium as part of this goal saying "the new facility will help build a winning football team while advancing one of the school's highest priorities: attracting more out-of-state students". According to The Wall Street Journal, "Skeptics, including some alumni and faculty, see the project as a boondoggle—especially for a team that plays in a relatively low-profile athletic conference and doesn't sell out its current 32,500-seat stadium off campus. The debate has sparked dueling websites, animated letters to the editor and arguments about the role of sports at a university." Many community members expressed frustration that they did not feel they were being heard at the CSU Board of Governors meeting when final approval was given. After the vote Board chair, Dorothy Horrell, thanked those making comments for their input and reiterated her feeling that "the decision to build an on-campus stadium was made after "thoughtful and thorough examination of this issue" that is reflected in the board's records. "As my parents used to tell me, just because I ask a question and didn't get the answer I wanted, it isn't that the question wasn't answered," Horrell said. "And I would just remind us all of that." The new stadium, initially estimated to cost $246 million, was originally only to be built if $125 million in private funds had been raised by October 2014. Plans were put on hold after fundraising support for the project failed to materialize as expected, according to a September 26, 2014 story in the Denver Business Journal. On November 29, 2014, Frank sent a memo to the school's board of governors recommending that the new stadium be approved without raising the 50% cost in public funds as previously planned. The memo estimated that a 35,900-seat facility would cost $195 million; building with a capacity of 41,200 would cost $220 million. Frank also estimated that renovating Hughes Stadium to last 30 to 40 years would cost a minimum of $149 million. The board of governors approved a new on campus multi-purpose stadium on December 5, 2014. At that time NBCSports.com writer Brent Sobleski speculated that the hiring of Rams head coach Jim McElwain for the head coaching vacancy at Florida days earlier may have swayed the board, noting, "An improving program and a new stadium could help lure another top-level candidate like the school previously did when McElwain was initially hired." CSU went on to hire Mike Bobo from the SEC like McElwain before him. University of Georgia's Coach Bobo was named the nation's Offensive Coordinator of the Year in 2013 by 247Sports.com. Georgia also had the top scoring offense in the SEC in 2014, Bobo's last season before heading to CSU. Construction of the new stadium, tentatively known as Colorado State Stadium, began in May 2015; the official groundbreaking ceremony was held the weekend of CSU's September 12, 2015 home football game against Minnesota. Construction of the stadium is expected to take 22 months, allowing CSU to begin playing football games in the new facility in 2017.
